Short-form YouTube clip (a #short) in which the host asks for a definition of "breast implant illness." The speaker frames the topic as a set of baffling, patient-reported symptoms that are not a formal, textbook diagnosis and notes that some patients suspect their implants — described as supposedly inert — may be driving unexplained systemic issues. The clip is an opening monologue likely leading into a broader conversation with Dr. Whitfield.

So why don't we define first, what is breast implant illness? And to some of my listeners, I mean, some of you guys may think that this is pretty niche, but I've, I've seen, I've heard from enough people in my community who are baffled by symptoms that they're experiencing that nobody seems to be able to put their finger on and have seen on occasion, them finally coming around to the possibility that maybe something that they had put into their body that they were told would be completely inert might be driving some of these issues. And obviously, and right now I'm talking about, and we're hopefully going to. Dr. Whitfield has a broad range of topics he can address, and two of them in particular I'm pretty keen on. But we're going to start with breast implants and how they can maybe wreak havoc with a person's system. So why don't we define first, what is breast implant illness? And you were saying before the podcast that this isn't actually a formal diagnosis. Like, you would not see this in any kind of textbook that people are studying in med school. So what is it and why have you become so fascinated with it?
