Breast Implant Infections: Understanding Causes & Solutions

Robert Whitfield MD (speaker) describes research into breast implant infections, reporting PCR testing of implant samples (all his samples since 2019) and a published paper of nearly 700 samples. He states the most common bacteria in his series are Cutibacterium actus (listed first) and Staph epidermidis (second), and explains that bacterial interactions with breast tissue (eg, staph with oleic acid producing oxylipin 10 home) can affect the immune system and contribute to symptoms such as pain, anxiety, and fatigue. He stresses these findings imply implant-associated bacterial presence can be a real cause of patient symptoms and should be taken seriously.
