Robert Whitfield MD explains what happens to skin after breast implant removal. Outcomes depend on original breast size, implant size, and breast shape. Large implants overstretch skin, so some patients need limited excision to tighten it without removing too much.

For a cosmetic patient, it really depends on how they started. If they started, you know, as an A or B cup breast, then they're typically going to revert back. Obviously, if the implant was large, that's more of a problem because it stretches out skin. So then you're, you're dealing with trying to manage skin. And there's different, you know, options. You have not so much to reshape the breast tissue, but to help with the skin. So you may excise skin to help tighten it, but, but not overdo it, because everybody will heal differently, of course. And, you know, so there's, there's ways to vary it. Today I just saw somebody who has a relatively wide breast, so that needs to be narrowed. Otherwise, when you take out their implant, they'll be flat and boxy.
