Dr. Robert Whitfield explains what to expect after breast implant removal. Avoid intense exercise right after surgery to prevent bleeding, but walking helps maintain mobility. Recovery takes one to two weeks for implants above the muscle, longer if they were placed underneath, and protein, sleep, and good air quality speed healing.

Explant recovery. Everybody wants to know how long it's going to take them specifically to recover and when they can resume exercise, etc. The reason we actually pause vigorous exercise around the time of surgery for someone having an explant is to control blood pressure and heart rate. The number one thing I want to avoid after surgery is bleeding. So bleeding is the issue here. So walking is the exercise I want you to do after explant. And really it's a one to two week recovery for somebody who has an implant when their implants above the muscle and then when it's behind the muscle. It depends on the muscle itself and how much swelling and inflammation develops in the muscle. We keep our mobility by walking the wall. So walking the wall keeps arm mobility, shoulder mobility and then day over day, week over week. Depending on if patients had other procedures or just an explant, recovery goes on. The things that I want to leverage are eating, sleeping, fl, fluid quality, air quality. So improve air quality, fluid quality, keep protein content high and get rest, both quality and quantity.
