Dr. Robert Whitfield, a plastic surgeon with 15 years of cancer reconstruction experience, warns that over-grafting fat causes complications like necrosis and cysts in vulnerable post-cancer tissue. He says the practice is under-discussed and driven by surgeons without enough experience to understand the risks.

They say, oh, we need to overgraph because we're going to lose fat. Now, I take exception to this, but in a cancer patient, which was predominantly what I did for almost a good 15 years, you would never overgraph the cancer patient because you could create a problem with the lump or cyst via fat necrosis or clumping. And that was before we had all these fancy tools that I have now. You had to be very good at syringe placement with the fat. So when I hear people talk about that and say that, it bothers me because I think they, they lack a certain experience or, or understanding or sensitivity to a cancer patient. And that really bothers me. I don't think you should speak in that manner because you sound like someone who is, is not experienced in that. So I always take that very seriously. Um, I don't think it's something that enough people talk about.
