Dr. Robert Whitfield explains his functional medicine approach to surgery recovery, using genetic testing, toxicity assessments, lymphatic drainage, hyperbaric oxygen, and nerve blocks to improve outcomes.
So what are the options? What can they perform, you know, how can they help you? And do they have an approach that aligns with what you want to do? I think many people travel from out of state and out of the country to see us because we've created this very specific, more holistic, functional type program. So we try to make sure that we understand as much as we can about your genetics and your toxicity burden, your gut health, hormone balance, and really use those things to help you not just go through surgery, but then recover afterwards. And in the office, we have invested just as much as we can into things that we feel will help decrease, you know, discomfort, help, you know, improve lymphatic drainage. So we have lymphatic drainage devices from New Zealand. We have hyperbaric oxygen in my office. We have, you know, red light therapy and nav therapy. Anything that I feel. We have this brand new, almost forgot about it, this grounding mat product that you lay on it and it restores cellular voltage, helps lower inflammation. So if you, you know, can really speed up recovery through nutritional counseling and, you know, doing the, you know, procedure properly and getting patients in and out in a, you know, a timely, efficient manner so they're not really having to deal with any more effects of anesthesia or narcotics. We don't use extra antibiotics, we don't really promote the use of narcotics in our practice. We have them available if needed, but most people really are trying to not use them. We work really hard with our anesthesia groups to provide nerve blocks under ultrasound, and I do nerve blocks and so that most of our patients come out and they're able to go within a half hour hour after surgery. It's all ambulatory, it's all outpatient. People stay in Austin about a week. There's a bunch of Airbnbs that really cater to our patients and then we have hotel relationships. So for us it's become like a, a big, you know, project that my, my team really embraces. I have a great team. You certainly can't do this as a person, alone person like me, as a surgeon. I have 30 full time employees now.
Beautiful. How do people get a hold of you.
