Dr. Robert Whitfield describes a patient whose medical implant degraded and leached tin, cadmium, and aluminum into her body. Using a 200°F sauna to detox triggered Herxheimer reactions. He warns that aggressive detoxing can worsen neurological and thyroid problems, especially with underlying conditions like Lyme disease.

I think it was over a year ago that I had one of my clients who had a bad heavy metal exposure from degradation of the shell of the implant, and they were constantly superheating themselves in a dry sauna up to 200 degrees and having Herxheimer reactions, not knowing what those were. And so everybody listening, obviously we'll just say it, when you're detoxing more than your body can manage, you'll get a Herxheimer reaction. And so I said on the air, you know, we had talked about it and were saying, you know, you're melting your implants when of course it's not melting, it's leaching, leaching chemicals from the implants and giving yourself an exposure to tin, cadmium, aluminum. All these different things can give you even worse neurologic symptoms, worse thyroid symptoms, worse gut symptoms. Like everything you can have can be potentiated or made worse. And certainly when you have Lyme disease or you have mold, all of these things are just so much more— they're exacerbated by a more aggressive approach.
