A short interview-style YouTube conversation (recorded Feb 20, 2025) between Robert Whitfield MD and another speaker about circadian rhythm disturbances. The speakers discuss personal struggles with early wake times, the primacy of light exposure in regulating circadian rhythms, and an argument that prioritizing light/daily timing can outweigh dietary adjustments for circadian health.
Thank you. Thanks for having me. I'm happy to be here.
Yes. Let's discuss the circadian rhythm disturbances that happen to me all the time because I don't actually ever. What is it that I don't do? I'm always up before the sun's up, and so I don't go outside and do all the things I'm supposed to because I'm inside operating a lot. So I guess start with how you would prefer to optimize someone as poor at doing grounding and things like that as I am.
You know, it's interesting because my background comes from nutrition, and as I was going through school, the message was very much like, you know, everything starts in the gut, food is medicine, and so on and so forth. And while I can support those messages, the more I started learning around about circadian rhythm and our light exposure, everything just really got flipped on its head for me because the more you focus on dialing in your circadian rhythm and your light exposure, the less the food matters.
