Robert Whitfield MD shares how he reversed a positive antinuclear antibody test by healing his gut. He uses a three-legged stool model: genetic predisposition, intestinal permeability, and triggers. His approach includes L-glutamine, anti-inflammatory smoothies, and dietary changes.

I was able to convert my positive antinuclear antibody to normal. I'm remembering back, Rob, to the first conversation you and I had, which I think was three or four years ago when I was writing this book, the Autoimmune cure. And you know, when you look at, if we go back to the basics, which is this three legged stool of genetic predisposition, increased intestinal permeability and a trigger, you can only do something about the latter two. So with increased intestinal permeability, so called leaky gut, there's a lot of things you can do to address it. So you can take L glutamine, you can start making smoothies with trying different supplements to see if you can improve your gut health to help heal it. And I really believe in a food first philosophy to address the gut. You know, there's so many supplements that are out there, but I think having an anti inflammatory food plan is the way to go. So those are some of the things I think are really helpful to address autoimmunity or if you've got that early drift and you're detecting it, you know, 7, 10, 14 years before an autoimmune disease declares itself.
