The Power of Support: Healing Through Caregivers

Robert Whitfield MD and others explain how caregivers, especially spouses, directly shape patient recovery. The clinic offers caregivers massages and facials to ease their burden. A caregiver's attitude and a home deliberately set up for healing can measurably change how fast someone recovers.

The nicest guy. I feel like I have to have a show with just spouses at some point because it's a big deal for their spouse and the more supportive they are, I feel obviously it's an easier overall process standpoint. And I think the spouses, you know, that's a hard one for them. They don't know quite what to do. And, you know, there are just. Some of them are here just, you know, in the office, super supportive. I get those guys massages and stuff. Any caregivers who come, I usually get them a massage or a facial or whatever it is that, you know, we can do because they're playing a very pivotal role in the process. And you know, from the jump, if they're there and super supportive, it definitely is easier for our patients.
Wow. I mean, if that doesn't just pre trade there, I mean, what you are.
Around, you absorb, like, you will take.
On the energy, you will take on the attitude to some degree of the people that are in your closest circle. And that plays a massive role when we're talking about the potential of your healing. So I think that that's super significant that you just addressed that and you. And you're even placing, I mean, it.
Just says, it really exposes how important.
It is by the intentional effort you're putting towards taking care of the caregiver. Like, that's huge to me because you.
Realize, hey, when I release this person from me doing my job in the operating room, the real work then starts.
Like the real healing can start taking place.
But if their home life isn't set up for healing, I mean, the body's going to respond. You will see a dramatic difference. Like you said, I would love to know somebody that has that kind of perspective and joy. Like, you're not getting up every day and your circumstances around you are just telling you, be joyful. There are plenty of things around all.
Of us that will communicate a different message.
So you have to be intentional about those thoughts.
You have to take those thoughts captive. You have to realize that it is.
A choice every single moment of every.
Day, how you're going to react in those different circumstances. Because the world's broken and there is a lot of heartache and hardship around us. So I think that it really says something when you see somebody that has that positive perspective.
And then you were able to even.
See, wow, look at the person that's closest to her. That person also shares that.
If she had a person that was.
Like, oh, man, I wish you weren't doing this. You're probably not going to get better.
She probably would have been robbed of.
That joy, like, to at least a certain degree. So I just think that that is so important. If you are chronically sick or ill.
It doesn't matter if you have implants or not. Take inventory of your household.
