The nose job, breast implants, Botox fillers. Cosmetic procedures are becoming household names. Plastic surgery is as popular as ever. A 12 billion dollar industry with procedures to change the face or get rid of the fat leading the way.
I think it's that concept of maybe plastic surgery becoming more commonplace, coming out of the closet a little bit.
Plastic surgeon Brad Calabrese agrees. Demand for plastic surgery is continuing to increase as Americans realize there are more plastic surger options, including a lot of procedures for men.
So there's more people who would consider it, like men who are now, you know, expanding, and they're sort of understanding that cosmetic procedures are for them also and they can benefit too.
There are some trends in plastic surgery. Breast augmentation is a top pick along with liposuction. But patients are also looking for breakthrough procedures, which are seeing a surge. The number of buttock enhancements ballooned in the last few years, increasing by 58% over. Along with labiaplasty, that's a procedure that changes the appearance of a woman's genitals. That procedure is wildly popular, increasing by nearly 40% since 2015.
Plastic surgery is like a luxury good, so it's very closely tied to the economy. Meaning as the economy booms, people tend to spend more, just like they would buy an expensive handbag. They spend more on themselves, on personal beauty, and on plastic surgery.
Dr. Daniel Maman sees the steep rise in plastic surgery as a reflection of better times and wider and improved choices.
In procedures as technologies improve, as access to less invasive and shorter, more effective plastic surgical procedures increases, inevitably the amount of people undergoing plastic surgery also increases.
And those numbers are likely to continue to increase as more people discover there are procedures that don't require a lot of downtime to help create a more youthful look. For the plastic surgery channel, I'm Dawn Tongish.
