Excerpt from a YouTube interview with Robert Whitfield MD describing how he adopted holistic and functional-medicine practices—especially a low-inflammatory diet—for his patients. He explains learning from a colocated functional medicine provider, taking toxicity training, and integrating functional practitioners into his practice during/after the pandemic so they could deliver in-house care.

I'm guessing you didn't learn a lot of that holistic stuff in medical school. So I'm curious how you came to even, like, be aware of any of that or start to implement that with your patients. Yeah, so we, we have everybody, we have a program with them for our patients. Because I want our patients to do a low inflammatory diet. Yeah. And I think most people really want to eat this way. They just don't know how or haven't experienced it. I've always been curious about genetics ever since college. When I got into solo private practice, I shared space with a functional medicine provider and his team helped me with nutritional support, taught me about mold, and then I did additional online programming for toxicity training. And then when, you know, the pandemic happened, we could no longer refer out to it because I couldn't see anybody. So then when we resumed, we just brought it all in house and started doing it with our functional team. So I have functional practitioners now.
