A short monologue from a YouTube video reflecting on building a data platform anchored by a rules-based engine and human filters. The speaker expresses a mix of hope and frustration about technological progress, noting that advances sometimes feel slow (‘snail’s pace’) and sometimes exponential, and that paradigms can shift suddenly over decades of work.
So our data platform that we're building is very much about this rules based engine through my filter, but also through the filter of colleagues. So I feel hopeful, like you and I have been at this long enough that maybe in our lifetime we'll see some bigger developments. You know, you talked about the pivotal moment of your training career being like the fulcrum between the old way and the new way. I think there's probably been a few moments where that fulcrum has happened over the past 30 years, and I think there's many more to come. So I feel hopeful, even if I sometimes feel very frustrated, that it is such this. Like you said, at one moment it's a snail's pace, and the other it's exponential. And it's both simultaneously happening. You know, that this is never going to change. And then suddenly you wake up and it's a totally different paradigm.
