Wednesday Live

Dr. Robert Whitfield walks through finding what's causing your chronic inflammation: hidden food sensitivities, gut imbalances like SIBO, and environmental toxins like heavy metals and mold. He recommends at-home testing (stool tests, a toxin panel) and a supplement bundle to support detox while you investigate.

Sorry about that. Um, we're going to get everything done in a moment, get loaded up. Let me know that you can hear me, please chime in on the chat, make sure you can hear me just fine. Doing a get everything loaded here. Just give me a moment. I was seeing a patient, so I'm a little behind. Hi, Brianne. Got my patient from New York on. Now I'm going to go to the live chat and I'm going to clear this chat. Clear the chat. Okay. Uh, I just want to make sure that I have everything. So, um, I need someone on Dr. Rob's circle who's from there just to go in the chat, make sure it's working. Uh, give me a thumbs up. Wave your hands. Oh my gosh, I got Dr. Poulter on here. How you doing, sir? I haven't chatted with you for a while, so good to have you on here. I managed to somehow lose the phone that we do Substack on. It's somewhere in the office, so we'll have to track it down. Not for this live, but I'm going live, uh, tomorrow night at 7 PM Central, so we'll add it there. We're gonna let people get on and then we'll get started. Once again, I apologize, I'm a little behind here. Excuse me, what I got going on, some of my, my cameras are a little bit wonky here. What is going on? That's what was happening.
Okay, there we go.
Okay, all right, Sabrina's back for more. Sabrina was on with me last night. It's good. I do not talk about alien abductions. So no, you don't need to include that in your medical history. All right, everybody get loaded up. Test the chats, make sure everything's fine. So we're live on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, as well as in Dr. Rob's circle. And my private group on Facebook, and then in our private community, drrobcircle.com. Last night we talked about warning signals, um, and we'll continue on that theme. Give a few more minutes for people to hop on since I got, I got started a little bit late. So how this is going to work is I will do a 10-minute talk. I'll take some questions across the platforms, and I'll go into my private Dr. Rob Circle community, and we'll have a live Q&A there where you can ask me anything, and we'll continue the chat there as long as folks want to. I've blocked out about an hour on my schedule for this. Oh, I do want to do one thing before I do that. Hold on a second, I have to do one thing because I promised some folks I would do that and All right, I have some folks in Europe who may or may not be able to hop on depending on their schedules. All right, I'm not gonna quote unquote, uh, wait for them to hop on. We're gonna get rolling. Thanks everybody for Going to our second live. So this is a 3-part live. Yesterday we talked about some warning signals. So everybody, welcome back today. I'm Dr. Robert Whitfield MD, board-certified plastic surgeon in Austin, Texas. Last night we started a really important conversation about your body's warning lights, those subtle signals of hidden stress and chronic inflammation. And I felt the response was great. We saw so many of you get engaged, ask really good questions, and that leads me to believe we're on the right track and the message is resonating. So, if you're ready to take action, we have some options at the end of this today. So, we'll highlight those. We won't leave anybody behind. So, today we're going to go deeper. Last night was about awareness, recognizing those warning lines. Today is about investigation, figuring out why are they on. Because here's the truth, it's not enough to know you have inflammation, you need to know what's causing it. Your body isn't just making noise. So many of the symptoms that we discussed last night, they're very specific messages. The question is, are we listening? Are your providers listening? Are you able to listen in the right way? Now, it's never kind of a one-size-fits-all environment. If you've been on this health journey for any length of time, you've probably been bombarded with pretty generalized advice. Eat a clean diet, try to reduce stress, maybe try these supplements, maybe engage in this type of diet that worked for a friend, a loved one, a family member, a coworker, something. And look, I think everybody's trying to help. That advice always, I think, is well-intentioned, but it's like telling someone with a leaking pipe to use like less water so it doesn't leak as much. It doesn't solve the problem. It doesn't fix the leak. So what I've learned after all these decades of practice and thousands of patients is each person is obviously biologically unique. They're their own individual biochemistry experiment. So the root of inflammation is going to be different, right? Everybody has a different history. They inherited genes from each of their biologic parents, where they grew up, the foods they ate, the things they got exposed to, what they applied to their skin, the air they breathe, the groundwater they drink. So, for some women, it's a hidden food sensitivity, something they may eat every single day. And if my manager's on, hers was avocados. So, that, you know, crushed her for a little bit. But for others, it's an imbalance in the gut microbiome. So, the balance of good and bad bacteria has shifted. And everybody's probably heard of SIBO at this point. And for many other women I see, it's a chronic burden of environmental toxins. Let me pause there for a second and talk about that. I have so many clients that come out of Florida that have a high degree of exposures of herbicides and pesticides, and there's a lot of spraying that goes on, obviously, to control insects there. And if they live near different environments like golf courses, for instance, there'll be more exposures. And then we find a large amount of mycotoxins both in that area and many areas around the country. The coastal areas make sense, it's a lot of moisture, but also in the northern parts of the country. And it's these mycotoxins produced from certain types of molds that I find play a huge role in this puzzle. These are not always obvious. You don't have to live in a visibly moldy house. Mycotoxins can come from water damage in buildings where we may have worked or worked out. Or lived at one point. They can come from certain types of foods. Think of like, coffee is a big source of mold, and so are nuts. And then there's environmental sources. And all of these can accumulate in our body and drive inflammation for many years without you knowing that. So simply changing your diet is not going to solve that specific toxin problem. So once again, they build up, And if you can't eliminate them, they're still there regardless of when the exposure happened. Taking a generic supplement stack is not going to address a specific food sensitivity. That's why the one-size-fits-all approach doesn't work for most people. So what I want you to do is in the chats, either on drrobcircul.com or YouTube Live, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, or if you're on Substack and you just want to chime in, Please drop a comment if you've ever tried a diet or a supplement that everyone raved about only for it to do absolutely nothing for you. It's one of the most frustrating experiences and it happens because the solution wasn't tailored to your specific problem. So, go ahead and take a moment and drop in some of these. We'll even talk about them. Somebody put one in. Come on, Brianne, I need you to make a comment. I need folks to chime in here. I'm calling people out if I know you. All right, the carnivore diet. All right, that's fair. That's a big one. People talk about it. I just saw some post about it yesterday. Uh, someone on YouTube, come on, drop a comment. Where is this? Why can't I see a comment on YouTube? Oh my goodness. I, I, I can't see the chat on YouTube. Okay, here it is. Green screen.
Not now.
Oh my goodness. Alright, anything else? Just for starters. Oh, Haley did the carnivore just for starters. And then anybody else got a good one? Nicotine patches. Oh, the nicotine. God, nicotine's been around forever. Sabrina, you're going to have to hold down the Dr. Rob circle chat. She cut out all grains, breads, and pastas, and the inflammation did change for about a year. Now that she's lost weight, She feels it's plateaued, then joint pain is back. That's fair. Lisa says bone broth sucks when you're estrogen dominant and histamine intolerant. Oh yeah, if you have histamine trouble, a lot of things are going to trigger you for sure, Lisa. I agree with you. And did you get more histamine tolerant intolerant post-pandemic. I find that a fair amount. These are good comments, keep them coming. I like this. Do I have any others? I don't want— oh, tomatoes. Chris said tomatoes.
Yep.
Uh, other ones for the record: I love the carnivore diet, I just didn't take care of the problem. It— yeah.
Exactly.
Did you feel better on it, Haley? Okay, any more?
Aye, aye, aye.
Every time I touch this thing, it wants to do something weird. So no, no, no, no, not promote anything. Okay, good, Haley. I'm gonna pin Haley's comment because it's a good one. So Sabrina says she did try, uh, is it bioidenticals, Sabrina? Is that what you tried? Okay. All right, we're gonna get back to the talk.
Okay.
So the core principle here that guides everything is bioindividuality. So we're all unique, and that's why no one size fits all. And the chronic inflammation that evolves in all of us over time, and if you have a medical device like a breast implant, you have inflammation from that as well. So the only way to create a targeted, effective plan is to gather as much information as we possibly can about you to help you. So we have to look at your specifics, right? There are a bunch of biomarkers. Everybody's heard them talked about in your blood. But I look for your exposures to toxins, your sensitivities, and I really try to understand that as it pertains to your genetics, many of which we can tell through history. And this is where at-home testing, I think, becomes an absolute game changer. It allows us to move beyond guessing and really start measuring. We can now test for things that used to require multiple specialist visits and many thousands of dollars right from the comfort of your home. We can now send these to you and you can do them and send them back. And after it's processed, we can have those discussions and they can be more meaningful. I just had one with a client actually in New York a few minutes ago. So the things that I look— I like to look for, and they're not going to be in a specific order, we'll just, we'll just talk about them. So food sensitivities. So everybody's probably heard of the elimination diet, and we already had Haley talk about the carnivore diet. There's been keto, the, what, hunter-gatherer diet. Gosh, I'm trying to think of other ones. I've had people just do tons of like juicing diets. I mean, all sorts of things. So the big thing is, are we reacting to what we eat? Is it from the glyphosates? Are we gluten sensitive? Do we have celiac disease? And you might be eating something every day that you thought's really healthy for you, but your body's overreacting. So I'll give you a personal example. So for many, uh, months, I was trying to do just a really pure keto diet. And I would get up early. Everybody knows, who knows me knows I drink a ton of black coffee. So I would get up and I would make some coffee and I try to be super quiet. So I would just cook some eggs, have some eggs, have some coffee, and then I'd go to work. And by the time I got to work here in Austin, and my office at that point was about maybe 15 minutes from where I lived, I would start having itchy eyes. I would start sneezing, and I wouldn't have a stomach that was upset, or— and I didn't feel unwell, but I would have swelling. And it got so bad I felt like I, I looked like Santa Claus, like I was a skinny fat guy. My beard's kind of getting gray. And ultimately, we had a food sensitivity test done and I was essentially allergic to eggs. So when I cut out eggs, I personally lost 11 pounds, and that's just fluid. That had nothing to do with— I didn't lose any muscle, I didn't lose any fat, it was just fluid, and it was mostly packed around my GI tract. You know, second, we look at gut health, and there's a lot of things that are made about the gut microbiome. It continuously is changing. You can't necessarily draw hard and fast rules about what's going on from a one-time PCR test, which I totally appreciate. We've tried all the vendors, but it can help you better understand some imbalances. So, I do think it has and serves a purpose. A personal example is a loved one of mine had a parasitic infection with Entamoeba histolytica that we identified on a PCR test of stool. So, it does work and it can work. And the third, and probably the most important one that we look at routinely to look at toxic burden, is the Vibrant Wellness Total Tox Test. It looks at a combination of environmental toxins. Think of things like herbicides and pesticides, BPAs, phthalates. It does look at all the toxins from different types of mold, so the mycotoxins. And then it looks at a whole series of heavy metals. And everybody will remember, if not, go check out the podcast I did with Lauren Bostic. She's my patient, and in the history of my practice taking care of patients with implants, doing tox tests on them, she had the most heavy metals of anybody ever in the history of my practice. And we thought it was from her over-aggressive use of dry sauna. So it shows you all these things, and so instead of making assumptions or guessing or not actually understanding, it gives us more data so we're not blind to what's going on. And we're trying to be, like I said, as precise as possible. You know, we want to test, and if we need to retest, we don't want to guess. So how about, like, we discuss how to start the process and, like, what does that look like for each, each of you or the person I just spoke to from New York? And the way I think about it is you're investigating as many of the actual root causes as possible. You definitely want to support all of your body's systems. Helps manage inflammation, and it can start lowering inflammation, inflammation. Now, I want everybody to think of it this way. If your house is on fire, you don't start remodeling the kitchen. Obviously, you put the fire out. And since we're talking about kitchen remodels, people get really sick after kitchen remodels or flipping homes. I see it all the time. It's because they increase their environmental toxin exposure because many times the walls are open and they inhale the the components that's in the building materials, right? The dust and stuff that's in there, as well as things like mold, it can be in the inner walls. So that's a really common problem. So this is where historically through genetic results and supporting genetic pathways of detoxification, we created our core set of supplements for the inflammation support bundle. So one, I like to make it easy for patients. So for the majority of them, they're liquid. And they are D3, K2, vitamin C, methylated B, and glutathione. We also have some carnitine. Other things that can help are mag, because we definitely need more mag. And so these are meant to help support those systems and to calm what is already a very revved up immune system. Now they're not going to solve all those problems, but I do have Many, many examples in our practice of patients who just started these and were able to start reducing their inflammation. My biggest examples are teachers. Teachers would only have the summer in their time when they could go and have a visit with us in Austin and potentially have surgery if that was their goal. So we would start them on supplementation, do their testing, and then start lowering their inflammation. So that's actually happened in our practice many, many times over, over the several years we've been doing this. But that kind of support alone is not the full answer. You know, more data is required. And so making those tests available at home has been a huge game changer for us. So everybody doesn't have to come here. We can send those to you and you just I would prefer everybody do the supplements for a couple weeks before they do tests, especially the Total Tox Test, because that allows you to get the most information out of that test. The Total Tox Test is one of the most crucial starting points for anyone experiencing chronic unexplained symptoms. In my stand— in my, uh, from my standpoint, it gives you very specific actionable data, and I refer back to it all the time. If I have someone come in who has a recurrent case of shingles, say for instance, I'll go to their data to see like what is elevated in their tox test. And if they have a very, very high glyphosate level— glyphosates impair nerve healing by slowing down DNA repair. If you don't methylate well, that further slows that down. So instead of giving them more drugs for, um, uh, zoster or shingles, I would try to help them with supplementation, methylated B, and then typically a binder to help get the glyphosate down or out of their system. And certainly, I can't tell you how many times a patient has come to me after years of frustration. We run a tox test, and then many of the things that they're experiencing make more sense, like, just like I alluded to. Certainly, I was very confused by brain fog initially in my practice, and then it was explained to me as more short-term memory loss, and there's lots of reasons to have it, but mold exposure is one of the main ones, light sensitivity, sound sensitivity, memory loss. Certainly when you get their test back and they have really elevated levels of mycotoxins, it makes a ton of sense. So, this combination of foundational support with supplementation, targeted testing with these at-home kits is the key unlocking, in our experience, your own personal health puzzle. It's the difference between, you know, hoping something works and really understanding and knowing kind of what to do, giving each person a plan, and we help guide you. So I think if everybody's ready to, you know, if you will, stop guessing and start trying to get answers, I mean, rather than just run protocols without any awareness, I want you to have some access to the same tools we use in our practice every day. Whether it's going to drrobertwhitfieldmd.com and from there shopping, or going to my links in any of the bios and clicking drrobertwhitfieldmd.com, or going to Dr. Rob's Solutions, you can go to and get an inflammation support bundle today. You can get a tox test ordered. So these will just get you, you know, I would say they're taking the correct steps to help you. Everything will be laid out clearly and transparently. It's not cryptic at all. So if you missed last night's session, you haven't grabbed my free guide, comment guide today on any of the lives or in the chats or in the circle. We'll make sure you get the complimentary PDF to accompany my book, The Sharp Method. It's a great companion to what we just discussed. Now, is anybody lost or not following? Hit me in the chat real quick and let me know if I need to slow down and answer some questions. Not seeing a bunch of questions.
Okay.
All right. So we're going to finish up. So for your next step, I need you to go from feeling kind of lost and frustrated to really being decisive. So this is a way we found that works to start all of our patients on the right path. Right. So inflammation support bundle for a couple of weeks, then do the tox test that gives us information about what's going on. We can better help guide you. You can get this off of Dr. Rob's solutions.com, Dr. Robert Whitfield MD.com, or if you're in the circle, you can go to the resource section and click it and go to the shop. And make sure to join me tomorrow evening at 7 PM Central for our final session. We're going to take everything we've learned this week and awareness from session 1, what we've learned today, and give you a plan over the next 90 days. You don't want to miss it. And then afterwards, like I do and will do now, is we're going to go into Dr. Rob's Circle for live Q&A. I have Sabrina. Is anybody else in Dr. Rob's Circle besides Sabrina? If not, I want you all to go to drrobscircle.com. I'll answer your questions. You have me right now. I will answer all of them. It's free to join Dr. Robcircle.com. D-I— I'm sorry, D-R-C-I-R-C-L-E.com. I can put it in the comments as well.
All right.
Can't thumb type worth a darn, so if you guys don't get it, I don't want you to complain. Now, now, can I make a comment there? I don't know, let me see. No, Bobby, yes, I'm in Austin. Yes, ma'am. Desiree, a cough for 7 months. I would look at environmental toxins. I've had several patients, especially around Texas, have that problem. All right everybody, we're gonna go into the circle. I need everybody to pop into drrobcircle.com. Once again, it's free to join. I'm gonna go in there, I'm gonna answer questions. I need everybody to chime in on that chat. I believe Sabrina is the only person there right now, so who can make it over? Who else? Let me just make sure. Chris, magnesium usually does not give you leg cramps. No, uh, Beanut, I stopped doing cancer reconstruction in 2019, but I just saw a cancer patient today to do a removal, a lift, and a fat transfer on. So I do take care of cancer patients, but I don't have any insurance affiliations at all. Oh, all right. Is it Jareni? 30-year-old silicone implants. Oh my gosh, yes, those, uh I'm glad you're able to get those taken care of. Now, our program does run remote. I'm glad that, uh, this was said on YouTube. So the question is, uh, can you run our detox program even if I don't do surgery? And the answer is yes. I have 3 practitioners that run our detox program. It runs remotely, and you can use our supplementation, and you can use our testing as part of the Sharp Method.
Yes, ma'am.
Haley, you don't see the chat? Go to, uh, where it says, um, you can't see the live video and the live chat at the same time in the circle. That's weird. Um, It should be in the Go Live section. So, okay, noted. I'll get it taken care of. I'm going to shut down the streams everywhere else. Oh, I have a message on TikTok. Invite. Carrie Denovan, we are going to go into drrobscircle.com and I'm going to do a live Q&A. Okay, so you can put all your questions there. I'll answer them live. Go to drrobscircele.com, or you can go up to my bio, you can get to my website, you can join it there. It's free to join.
Okay.
I'm gonna shut down YouTube and Facebook and Instagram here in just a moment. Hi, Leah, you were just in the office.
All right. What the—
