Dr. Robert Whitfield explains what the TenHOM research found: correlations between biofilm, TenHOM levels, and immune markers, plus evidence that TenHOM pushes immune cells toward inflammation. He's clear on what it doesn't prove: it's not a clinical diagnostic, doesn't explain all Breast Implant Illness symptoms, and the cross-sectional study can't establish causation.

Here's what the TenHOM research can tell us and what it cannot. The human tissue study found associations among biofilm abundance, TenHOM, and immune findings in the groups that were studied. Cell experiments showed that TenHOM could shift naive CD4 T cells toward Th1 pattern. Mouse experiments added another layer of mechanistic evidence. What does that not prove? It does not establish TenHOM as routine clinical diagnostic test for use. It does not prove that every symptom came from one molecule, and it does not establish one universal cause of BII. Thank you. The broader oxylipin study was cross-sectional, so it could identify associations, but it could not establish the causation. More longitudinal and clinical validation work is needed.
