A short instructional video (presented by Zoe) introducing a series on developing maths mastery aimed at Key Stage 2 pupils working at or towards greater depth. It emphasizes teaching for depth of understanding rather than rushing through objectives, encourages use of number sense, fluency, reasoning and justification, and recommends concrete and pictorial representations; materials can be used for whole-class teaching to deepen pupils' knowledge.

Hi, I'm Zoe and welcome to our video series on developing Maths mastery for Greater depth Mastery in mathematics is very much about developing a depth of knowledge and understanding rather than simply moving on to the next objective. It gives students a chance to apply their knowledge and make connections whilst using their number sense and fluency to tackle ever more increasingly complex problems. In this video you'll see a range of questions and activities that are designed to facilitate pupils at Key Stage 2 working at OR towards greater depth. Using these you can give children a chance to justify reason and explain. Teaching for mastery means that pupils should all be taught at the same rate and access the same content. Whilst the tasks we see in our Greater Depth series are designed to deepen children's knowledge, they can be used for whole class teaching along with the right concrete and pictorial representations. We hope you enjoy these videos and they give you an insight into what it looks like when pupils are working at a greater depth. Enjoy.
