This is a YouTube instructional video titled "Teach The Grid Method For Multiplication Of Two Digit Numbers By One Digit Numbers" (created 2024-04-04). Presented by Felicity, it teaches the grid method for multiplying a two-digit number by a one-digit number using a concrete–pictorial–abstract progression (counters, pictorial grid/dots, then numeric calculation), illustrated with the example 15 × 2 = 30 for primary/elementary learners.

Hi, I'm Felicity. And today we're going to be looking at using the grid method to solve multiplication questions using a two digit and a one digit number. So in this example, we have manal, who has two books, and each book has 15 pages. Now we want to use the grid method to figure out how many pages Manal has in total. So let's introduce this concept using concrete resources, as always. So here we can see in the grid, we represented our ones using counters here. So we have two lines of five, and then we move on to the tens. Now we're timesing it by two because there are two books. So we have two lines of 10. We can also represent this pictorially using the grid. And we would just ask the children to draw the counters using dots. Once the children are comfortable doing this, we can then move on to showing our work in an abstract way with numbers. And so in our grid here, we'd figure out the ones first. So we'd need to figure out 2 times 5, which equals 10, and then finally 2 times 10 which equals 20. This can be written as the calculation 20 plus 10, which we know equals 30. And there we have it. We have 30 pages in total, which we've figured out using the grid method. That's how you use the grid method to figure out multiplication questions with two digit and one digit numbers.
