Hey, my name is Rahul Rana, and I am the author of Making Moonshots. It's a book about the mindsets, philosophies, and strategies that are conducive to building moonshot companies, which are startups that take a sci-fi-sounding advanced technology or science and use it in a radical solution to solve a big problem in the world. The biggest intersection that my book explores is this intersection between achieving human potential and founding deep tech startups. Essentially, it's between philosophy and entrepreneurship. Another intersection is between the intangible mindsets and mental models and the tangible strategies and ecosystems that all work towards successfully making a moonshot company. This book includes stories from some awesome moonshot company founders and operators, and insights from some of my favorite deep tech investors. On the founder side, I feature people from the most craziest companies out there, such as Google X Moonshot Factory, CTRL-Labs, and SpaceX. On the investor side, I feature people from some pretty influential venture capital firms, such as Lux Capital, Tusk Ventures, and NEA. I realized all of society can benefit with more moonshot companies because they solve really grand problems in the world through deep tech solutions. These problems have a broad range, from direct issues such as smarter therapeutics and drug discovery, to more philosophical issues such as ending human suffering or fundamentally giving us more control in our lives. My hope for this book is to, one, give everyone a toolkit of proven mindsets and philosophies to supercharge their curiosities and passions, and two, to inspire them to pursue their own moonshots through executable strategies that are backed by experts. If I could inspire just one more person to at least try to start a moonshot company, then I know my job will be done because they will be inevitably improving the lives of millions, if not billions, of people. On top of that, I'm hoping to help people gain a new sense of introspection and self-awareness that will help them achieve their own moonshot goals. You'll love this book if you're a fan of the intersecting worlds of tech, science, and business, essentially deep tech startups. This is mainly for founders and aspiring founders, but most importantly, it's for the people who just need that extra boost in trying to figure out their truest passions and goals to ultimately lead a more genuinely fulfilling life. Some other audiences that may enjoy this book are leaders within education, government, and investing, as I present a way in which we could all work together to solve some of the world's most intractable problems. My name is Rahul Rana, and my book is about moonshot companies, why we need them, and how we as individuals and members of a greater society can create a vast impact on the world by achieving our human potential through groundbreaking and radically creative startups.
