Anxiety comes in two forms: general anxiety, which is persistent what-if thinking about future events like job loss or illness, and complex anxiety, which stems from past trauma stored in the body. What looks like overthinking might actually be complex anxiety trying to process unresolved trauma.
Chapters
There are basically 2 types of anxiety. One anxiety is what I call general anxiety. General anxiety is when you think about the what-ifs. What if this happens? What if that happens? What if he leaves me? What if she leaves me? What if I lose my job? What if I get sick? You constantly ruminate, you constantly overthink on the what-ifs. Now, 98% of us that struggle with what you and I struggle with believe that we have the overthinking, ruminating, what-if anxiety, when in reality, what we have is— General anxiety. What you really have is what I call complex anxiety. Complex anxiety is when you feel the what was, and that what was is those life experiences that we've all had that for many of us were traumatic. And those traumas live in your body through the way you feel that actually causes you to ruminate and overthink on what if.
