A good leader admits when they're overwhelmed and surfaces problems early. A bad one hides issues and shifts blame later. The real test is whether they own the situation or dodge responsibility.

How do I know if a leader is overwhelmed or just not that good? Well, if they're a good leader, you should find out that they're overwhelmed because they told you. The best leaders are going to surface issues. They're going to surface problems before you have to find out about them. And I know for me, that's the ultimate trust builder. When somebody brings an issue to me, bad leaders are going to hide them. They're going to bury them, they're going to hoard them. And then when they ultimately do come to life, what they're going to do is they're going to shift blame. Now, if somebody does get overwhelmed, if it does come to life, what I'm looking to see is do they completely own it? Do they take the blame? Do they assume the responsibility? If I see that, I've got probably a decent leader in training. If all they're doing is shifting the blame and hoarding, then I know I've got a bad leader.
