Zuckerberg once said when he spoke at YC that he'd only hire people that he'd report to if the roles were reversed. And if you're hiring people that are that good, which you should be doing, they have as many opportunities as you do. So if you're thinking about, oh, what am I going to do after this company, or, you know, am I in the best role I could be in, they're thinking about the same thing. And so if you don't make the role good enough that you yourself would stay in it, then you have a hard time retaining your best people for a long period of time.
Yeah, I mean, your goal should be to become the dumbest person in the room. In fact, I'll go so far as to say that until you become the dumbest person in the room at your own company, your company simply won't scale. Now you may be the very best person at doing everything in the business, but if you can hire someone who's better than you at just doing that one thing, maybe it's marketing, maybe it's sales, maybe it's fulfillment, someone that you would really want to work under because you believe that you could learn from them. That's when you know that you're doing it right. That's when you're going to build a business that can scale.
