Chapters
I've hired hundreds of people over 20+ years and most hiring advice is absolute garbage. Here are 3 books on hiring I wish I'd read sooner. Number 1, you got The Ideal Team Player, Patrick Lencioni. There's 3 essential elements for anybody to be a great employee. Learn to interview for them: humble, hungry, smart. Make sure you got all 3, you're gonna be in good shape. Number 2, we've got Who by Jeff Smart, Randy Street. Fun fact, Jeff is actually the son of Brad Smart, who wrote Top Grading, which some consider to be the definitive hiring manual. This distills it. It's also a little bit shorter. I just stick with who. Third, you've got Scaling People, Claire Hughes Johnson. Great book on managing people overall. The chapter on hiring is the most tactical thing I've read on the subject. Worth the price of admission if you only read that one chapter. Tab it, highlight it, run your next hire through it.
