The Marketing Whisperer closed his sneaker store and went back to a salaried job. He argues that shutting down a business doesn't make you a failure, and that you can still think like an entrepreneur while working for someone else. Sometimes quitting is the smartest move.

Marketing Whisperer says, "I closed my business and returned to a job. Here's what I learned about letting go." He then goes on to tell a story about having to shut down his sneaker store, getting onto LinkedIn, putting on the dreaded open to work badge and getting a job and you know at the end he says, "Hey, has anyone else here had to make the decision to leave a business or a side hustle behind? How did that work? Did you feel like a failure?" First things first, I just want to say in business Entrepreneurship is not for everyone. If it's not for you, that's okay. And there is nothing wrong with trying it out and saying like, I think I just want to go get a job. Any entrepreneur who's honest will tell you there are plenty of days when they just wish that they were working for someone else. So the idea of feeling this way, totally fine. Also, sometimes the business that you have just doesn't work out. And if it just doesn't work out, sometimes the best thing to do is to go and just get a job. But to me, entrepreneurship is not what you're doing in the moment. It is an identity. So I've always been an entrepreneur because I am generally unemployable. Even the times when maybe I did work, in my mind I was always thinking about the next business I'm going to start. So if you're a business owner and the business that you're owning, running, it doesn't work out, that failure of the business doesn't equate to you being a failure as an entrepreneur. You're still gonna have business ideas. You can go out, you could try another day. So if you want to shut down a business, that doesn't mean you're done being an entrepreneur. It just means you're gonna be an entrepreneur while you work for somebody else and figure out your next thing. Entrepreneurship is a mentality, entrepreneurship is an identity, entrepreneurship is a calling. If you are one, you are one. If you're not, that's okay too.
