If you missed the tax deadline, file an extension immediately. Extensions delay filing, not payment, so pay what you can now to avoid late-payment penalties and interest. If you can't pay in full, make a partial payment and set up an installment agreement for the rest.

I missed the tax deadline, now what? If you didn't file an extension, you want to get one of those filed as soon as possible. The extension is only to extend when the filing is due, not when the payment is due. So if you don't owe any money, you're covered, you have 6 months. If you do owe money, the IRS is going to charge you a late payment penalty in addition to interest. It's better to pay that as soon as possible. If you can pay all of it now, do it. If you don't think you can, pay as much as you can as quickly as you can. Take the next 12 months to get that figured out. Meaning if you can't pay off your amount owed in the next 12 months, you may look at doing an installment agreement. And if this is something that you regularly find yourself in a situation where you owe taxes on the 18th and you're not getting it paid, you may want to consider saving up money throughout the year, putting aside little chunks. Remember, the IRS sucks. They are going to get you on this. So get yourself protected with filing on time and paying on time. And please like and subscribe.
