How do I lower my thyroid antibodies?

Sachin Patel explains that lowering thyroid antibodies means reducing inflammation and stress, not just chasing the antibody number itself. He covers gut health, H. pylori, and lifestyle factors like massage and gratitude. Thyroid problems often drive depression and anxiety through inflammation.

Hey guys, it's Sachin Patel and I'm answering some more questions regarding thyroid health. This question comes in from Maria. She actually had a bunch of questions, so I'm going to read them first. How do I lower antibodies was her first question. Great question. You know, a question that comes up quite often. The idea here isn't necessarily to focus on lowering antibodies, although that's important. You want to lower cytokine activity because it might take a while for the, for the antibodies to go down. And sometimes people might actually have low antibodies because your immune system is not working the way it's supposed to. So a run down, burnt out immune system can lead to low antibodies, which can give you a false negative. So what we want to focus on is cytokines. Cytokines are what tell the antibodies to attack the tissue. Ways to lower cytokines would include human touch, appreciation. A massage could be a good idea, listening to music, feeling grateful. So having gratitude can also lower that. Human touch, like massage can be important, especially if it's from a loved one or a partner. It makes a difference versus somebody who's a stranger. So I would work on those things. Lowering cytokines, lowering stress, lowering inflammation, that's gonna then lower the attack of the tissue from the antibodies. If my body's attacking my thyroid, what is the long term damage and how do I stop it? Well, if your body's attacking your thyroid, chances are statistically it's attacking other organs and other systems in the body because of the breakdown in the actual immune system and the dysfunction that's taking place in the immune system. So I would say you probably want to work on your systemic and overall health. How do you stop this? You stop this by getting healthy. You stop this by addressing the root cause. You stop this by identifying what's going on in your gut that's disrupting this entire immune function and causing this attack. You also stop this by taking full control of, of your health and not delegating it to somebody else. So there's lots that you can do. She has thyroid nodules. Doctor isn't worried. Can I reduce the thyroid and go back to normal? So we've had a case study from our office where a patient had six fairly large nodules on her thyroid and after working with us for six months, they completely disappeared. She went back for a follow up ultrasound and they were completely gone. So can you get back to normal? I don't know. Are you willing to do the work? That's the main question. But if you're willing to do the work, then we've seen that, we've witnessed that the goal would not be necessarily to bank all of your outcomes on whether your nodules are gone or not. The nodules are relatively benign, but they indicate there's an autoimmune process going on. So I would say how you feel is more important than whether those nodules are present. And if you're on medication, looks like you're on Synthroid, I would suggest that you at least evaluate for antibodies and work on lowering your cytokines and getting to the root cause of where this problem is coming from. She said it's hard to lose belly fat. Of course it would be because that's the last place that your body loses fat from. The first place it loses fat from is actually from the cheeks. Right? So this is non essential fat. The fat around the midsection can be somewhat essential, especially if you're under lots of stress. So that's why your body stores it there. She also has H. Pylori. Is that connected to the thyroid? Well, it could be a driver of your thyroid. It could be something that's ramping up your immune system. And so your immune system increases cytokine activity. And when we increase cytokine activity, we attack any tissue that's been tagged. So of course your doctor may not necessarily focus on it too much. A lot of people have H. Pylori, but it's not normal. So just because it's common, it doesn't mean that it's normal. And in somebody who might have other issues layered on top of the H. Pylori, like chronic stress, like other microbial infections, like other parasites that probably haven't been evaluated, it would probably be important for you to get that checked out. And I would say that it probably would be a decent idea for you to get the antibiotics from your doctor and have that addressed, or you can even go a natural route. But definitely you want to do something about that. And the other question you had, is the thyroid connected to depression, anxiety, and how do I fix it? Well, again, you don't fix the anxiety, you don't fix the depression, you don't fix the thyroid, you fix whatever is causing the problem. So in a case like this, what I would focus on is understanding first that the thyroid affects brain function. Depression is usually an inflammatory problem, so you gotta fix the inflammation. Your depression, anxiety, are probably connected to your gut health. So I would look there. So I would say that you have a perfect storm for thyroid autoimmunity, which means you probably have a perfect storm for autoimmunity and other parts and systems in your body. So you want to take a global approach, not so much just a thyroid approach. And that's one of the things that's helped us get amazing results for our clients, is focusing on the whole person, not just on this tiny little part of you. Because this is just a few grams of your total tissue in your body. We want to look at the whole picture so that we can produce systemic health. And of course, the thyroid plays an important role in your health. It's something that we measure as part of standard lab work. This is why it gets picked up. But that doesn't mean that every other system in your body is working the way it's supposed to. So thank you for asking these great questions, and I hope this information helps you.
