Success Story with Heather Bertrand

YouTube interview (host: Sachin Patel) with health coach Heather Bertrand. Heather describes specializing in thyroid disease and expanding to chronic-illness coaching, recounting a year-long transformation after joining Sachin's mentorship: she went from earning $0 to running multi-client cohorts (reports 26 clients at one time and at least 10 earlier in the year), developing a predictable client-acquisition process and client results, and planning to systemize her program for scale. The conversation also highlights mindset shifts, community support (mentors and peers), and next steps to build smoother systems for growth.

Next, we have another special guest who's going to be sharing. We have Heather Bertrand. Heather, are you there?
Yes, I'm here. I'm here.
How are you today?
I'm awesome. It's been such a fabulous day already. I'm so excited. I'm ready to go out there and share some experiences over information.
Amazing. I love it. Heather, tell us, for those of us that. That are meeting you for the first time, tell us a little bit more about you and your practice.
Well, I am a health coach, and I specialize in helping women with thyroid disease. And I am really shifting to chronic illness to overcome the diagnosis. Right. Just to empower people to know that it doesn't matter what your doctors say about you and your health and your future and your body. What really matters is what you believe about what they've said and how you deal with that information. And so I'm just excited to be able to be here with you and this community. And thank you so much for the chance to share a message.
Yeah, absolutely. So some of us caught a glimpse of your story earlier on in the little video reel that was playing, but I'd like to dive a little bit deeper. And something you said reminds me of something Les Brown said. And Les Brown's a motivational speaker for those of you that don't know. And he said, never let somebody else's opinion become your reality.
Yes.
And that's what medicine essentially is. Right. Diagnosis is somebody's opinion based on the information that they have. But we never have all the information.
That's right.
Right. Like in two to three minutes, and even in two to three labs, we don't have all the information. So we're simply giving an opinion versus stating what some might consider a fact. However, it becomes a fact if we allow that opinion to become our reality.
And so really.
Yeah. And so really creating that mindset shift for people is what you help them do. And that's something that we help people do as well. Right. Sometimes the dialogue that we have in our head, the record that's playing, is not playing the song that we were put on this earth to sing. And so we have to kind of rewrite that record or change it out altogether. And sometimes that's changing our perspective, sometimes that's changing our community, sometimes that's changing our immediate environment, sometimes that's changing our friends. It could be a variety of different tools that we need. What I would love to do in the few minutes that we have is I love for you to share as a health coach where you were because you joined our cohort a few months ago in the fall of last year. So it's been almost a year since you joined our program. And tell us where you were prior to joining the program and where you are now.
Wow. I didn't even realize it had been so long. You know, time flies when you're having fun, right? But I was really desperate. I was destitute. I had no money and I was health coaching in name only, right? Because I wasn't living my, I wasn't living, you know, I wasn't living my best life. So I was sick. I had gained a bunch of weight. I was self soothing with food and not sleeping and doing all the things. And so when I providentially happened across your email about, it was a webinar, you had a webinar about a perfect practice. And I was like, this is exactly what, this is exactly what I needed. You know, I didn't know what to do to get myself out of the rut that I was in. And so I clicked on the link and I went on the webinar and I said, this is it. I don't know where I'm going to get the money from, but I need to do this thing. And I signed up and I haven't looked back. So compared with where I was last year, for all of last year, I made a whole $0 before coming into the mentorship. And now it's, you know, I have 26 clients at any one time. I have over. I had at least 10 clients on the roster at one time this year. And last month I had to just, I had to stop taking clients because I was getting so overwhelmed with, you know, I was moving faster because I have this great system now. But I was, you know, I, I like to run ahead. So I was moving faster than I could keep up, you know, and so I had to stop and just reevaluate and say, okay, I can launch again and do this, you know, a smoother way. So it's way better now. I know how to predictably get clients. I know how to predictably get my clients results in their body and I know how to get a predictable income. And so it's night and day. Night and day.
Awesome. You know, one of the things I'm big on is who we become in the process. So aside from what your business has become over the last year or so, who have you become over the last year?
Oh my goodness. Night and day. I am so much more confident. You know, I ran a challenge in March and one of the ladies who was in the challenge, I know her personally. She came up to me, she said, you know what? You are so confident. If I needed to lose weight or if I needed to do whatever, you are so confident. I just exude confidence now. Whereas before I wasn't sure, maybe I can help you. But now it doesn't matter what your problem is. I know I can help you. It doesn't matter who you are. I know I can help you. And it's not just for me. If I don't have the personal answer, I know where to go to get that answer. So now I'm not only I'm no longer just one person. I have a community of support, and I carry that community with me all the time. When I am plagued with the shiny object syndrome, I can reach out to people. I can reach out to Miranda and say, is this something that you think I should do based on where I am and what I'm dealing with? It makes such a difference because part of what has happened is you get used to so many voices on the Internet, and so it's easy to listen to people who want to steer you all over the place. But having that community with like minded people and people who can say, you know, you know, yeah, think about this, or journal about that, it has made such a big difference. I'm different. I can plan differently. Natalie challenged me to just, you know, set a vacation for my family, and so I did. And so I went and made the money so I could pay for the vacation and wouldn't have done that a year ago. It's really about who I'm becoming. I have read so many great books. Aaron, in his mentorship, calls on every book I hear about. I read it, and I have just been growing in my awareness of negativity and my power to impact my health. Like, I did it by accident before, but now I'm doing it on purpose, you know, changing my life and changing my family situation at the same time.
I love that. I love that. It's so cool because you have so many people that are looking out for you.
Yes.
Right. You have Natalie, you have Aaron, you have Miranda, who you've mentioned, and I'm sure others, including myself, that are rooting for you, that want you to win, your customers want you to win, your clients want you to win, and of course you want to win. And that's really the ultimate trifecta, right? When our clients want our business to win, our business wins. When we want our business to win, it wins. And when we have the support of other people who can steer us in the right direction. Right. The thing is that we have to learn as entrepreneurs what to say no to, because our brain is wired to have shiny object syndrome. And what many of us lack is a sounding board to have somebody assess. Is this something that we actually need in this stage of our business? Sometimes it's a no, it's a hard no, sometimes it's a not now. And just having that gentle nudge so that, you know, hey, I'm thinking in the right direction, but maybe I'm a little bit ahead of myself and where I am in my business and this is going to derail me so I can cross that bridge a little bit later. So it's so powerful to have, you know, that ecosystem that we can tap into that network that we can tap into that hypernucleation. We talk about. There's people that are a few steps behind, there's a few people that are right beside you, and there's a few people that are a few steps ahead. And what I love about our community is that someone like yourself can help those that are right beside you and up and comers and then those that are a few steps ahead can pour back into you. And it's this continuous kind of feed forward system that we've created. And I absolutely am so honored that you're part of it. Go ahead.
I'm glad to be here. It's amazing. You mentioned my clients wanting me to win. And one of the things that has happened is my clients and I, we've become friends and they, I'm really honest with people and so I tell you I'm a b. You know, I like to go ahead and do whatever. And so I tell my clients, they joined the beta program and I said, hey, listen, I know this thing works, but the system isn't smooth, right? And so I keep, you know, and I just tell them, so I need your help to troubleshoot and to give me input on how to make this better. And that's just what I've been doing, right? So I don't have a lot of the, I don't have any of the tech pieces in place. I don't have, I don't have a lot of the stuff that we did in the, in the, in the mentorship because it's just, it was just going to, you know, prevent me from not doing what I wanted to do. But my clients nonetheless have gotten the results and they are raving fans, right? So they, they refer their friends and they love the environment and they love the support that they have. And so I'd never had that before where, you know, where my. My friends, my clients are becoming friends, and they are wanting the program to be successful. One of them said to me the other day, she said, you know, I can see you enrolling 5,6000 people in this thing every year, and so you have to figure out how to make this more streamlined. That's what she said to me in one of our coaching calls. So it's just amazing that I'm not the only one who sees the potential, but my clients and my community, they're also on board with how can we make this a success.
Yeah. And you said something. And I want to spend just a moment here highlighting what you said so that people can take what I think is the appropriate takeaway, which is not having the systems is actually not a bad thing, because what you've been doing up to this point is proving your process. So it's. Once we prove our process, then we build systems around the process. So the next phase for your growth is going to be that. Right? Is how do I take this? Now that I know this works, now that I have a system that works, how do I systemize it so that it could be a turnkey solution that somebody else can actually help me and support me with? So there's a quote from Ronald Reagan's key advisor when he was president, and he said, the business of the future will only have two employees, a human and a dog. It could be a man or a woman, but the other employee will be a dog. And the human's job is to feed the dog to make sure the dog doesn't die. And the dog's job is to bite the human if he touches the system.
Okay.
So eventually what we all want is we want to take this proprietary process, right, this. This system that we've created, and then let technology do the heavy lifting for us and map out that journey, because the tech already exists for us to be able to do that. So you're. You're right where you need to be. And now the next key to unlock your next level of growth is going to be to systemize your process.
For sure.
For sure.
That's what we're working on. And having another challenge starts on Monday. And from there, we're looking on working on building a smoother system so that we can have those 5,000 clients per year, you know, because that's the plan.
Amazing. I love it. Thank you so much, Heather, for sharing. Thanks for being so courageous and putting your message out there in the world. And I love your energy and your confidence and your exuberance. It really is contagious. I appreciate you. And here's to continued growth and success in your mission. Yes.
Thank you so much. Thanks for this opportunity.
Absolutely. Have an awesome day.
You do the same.
Will do.
