The Future Of Healthcare: Why Are We So Sick?

Transcript of a live talk (May 2024) by Sachin Patel, introduced by Gary, arguing that modern healthcare focuses on disease rather than health creation. Patel promotes a patient-as-doctor philosophy, emphasizing the body's innate healing, coherent breathing, circadian lighting, intermittent fasting, sleep tracking (Oura), food-inflammation testing, oral microbiome/nitric oxide, and simple environmental choices (linens, natural fabrics, grounding). The talk mixes practical tips, at-home tests, and lifestyle ‘1% improvements’ with examples and a participant testimonial (Gary: lost 30 lbs, improved sleep).

Just like employees are confused by P and L. Just like I was at one point, like, you know, the minute you say pnl, it's like this whole thing that comes up, right? And I always say, I can't wait to read my PNL saying. I mean, I did it ever.
So.
And we just avoid. Because we just don't know because we're avoiding, right? So we're learning the term in. I don't know about you, we're in this thing called healthcare. But I'm like, there's so much information on healthcare and so many philosophies on healthcare. It's not like a P and L has been around for 400 years. You know, we're always learning new science and new evolutions of things and there's different philosophies, you know, like we're against sick care, right? We want well care, you know, and again, I found someone who really made understanding how to be healthy. He was able to articulate it to me in a way that I can understand it, but I can understand the depth and breadth of it all because it's such a big conversation. And you know, again, falling in line with like doing the research, finding the right people, putting myself into communities that are really of health care. My best friend runs the Consumer Health Summit every day in Paradise Valley, Arizona. And really literally all the most cutting edge leading practitioners that are bringing like the best in healthcare are there. And I had the privilege. And I've seen Sachin and Deepa for a while. I've read their stuff, but I got to connect and hang out with Sachin. And as you see, he comes from a big, wide space, but you also can communicate health in a way that is profound. And I went through his program this year and not only did I understand not only what this overwhelming thing made simple where I would get stopped, he and Deepa have developed a methodology just like he focused in on implementation. This is an implementable, duplicatable, scalable way that we can bring whole body health to ourselves, to our families, to our teams and to our patients. And I've been looking for a system. I'm like, I know Sachin, your system is like so parallel to what we do and how we do it. It's like almost wild how I'm not experiencing this. And I can't believe what you've accomplished here. And it's no small feat. And so. Well, without further ado, Satya Patel. Thank you, my brother. Thank you, thank you. And I do want to say I sleep through the night. I Don't snore. I lost 30 pounds. It is complete. Like it was a life altering experience that I've had this year. And so I want to thank you for bringing to the world because I think our first interaction, Sachin, was, you know, like, I want to be able to fix this. And you go, I don't fix things. I believe that the body, what did you say? Do you remember?
Fixes itself.
The body fixes itself.
Well, thank you, Gary. Thank you all for showing me and my family so much hospitality and love. It's an honor to be here and I know how important this event is to Gary and the rest of the team. So it truly means a lot for me to be up here and share. I'm going to be, you know, in about 55 minutes. I can't cover everything I know. So I'm going to give you the things that are going to make the biggest impact for you, the things that you can take home, the things that you can start applying immediately so that you can prove to yourself that health truly comes from within. I think the first thing we need to have is the right health philosophy. And the current health philosophy that many people adopt is that somebody else is going to come and save me. Somebody else is going to come and fix me. Something else is going to come and fix me. And we have an entire system that has spent literally billions and billions and eventually trillions of dollars on research to actually learn that we know nothing. So let's think about this for a moment. Every year, is there more or less research taking place? More. Which means we have more questions, which means, paradoxically, we know less and less. And less. But I believe that our body knows everything. It knows exactly how to heal. It literally built itself from two cells. And you are currently dying and being reborn in every single moment. So during this conversation, millions of cells in your body will replace themselves silently, quietly. Whether you have gratitude for that process or not, it's happening inside of you. It's happening inside of your children, and it will happen for as long as you live. So moment to moment, you are reborn. However, it begs the question, if we have new cells in every moment, why do we not get healthier by the moment? Well, part of that reason is the same reason that if I bought you the exact same car but a brand new version of it, does that make you a better driver? What makes you a better driver is learning how to drive. And so we are never taught how to be healthy. We are never taught that. We go through all this school, all this training all the way up into high school. And we get very, very superficial education on how to create health. There's three things that we never learn in school. The first one is how to be healthy. Second one is how to grow our own food. And the third one is how to be financially literate. And it's no coincidence that those are the most profitable industries on the planet, and they prey on us not knowing these things, right? So this is why you can put garbage in front of somebody and they'll put it into their body because they think it's food. Food should nourish all three parts of us. Our physical body, our emotional health, and it should also nourish our soul. That's what food is. What we discovered many years ago is that health can be either really complicated or it can be really simple. And what we discovered is that we got better results the simpler we kept it. So I refer to our programs and what we do as embarrassingly simple. If it isn't embarrassingly simple, then we don't do it. Our philosophy is that the doctor of the future is the patient. And really, if we think about it, to turn this kind of. This oil tanker that's heading for the iceberg, which is what I refer to as our current healthcare or sick care system. Do we need more hospitals? Do we need more doctors? Do we need more nurses? Do we need more medications to be invented? Probably not. What we need, and what we all want is to be the healthiest version of ourselves. And that's what we all deserve, is to be the healthiest version of ourselves. But nobody has taught us how. So the vision that I have in my mind, the world that I want to see, is one where everyone is happy, healthy, and whole. One where they know how to take good care of themselves. Because if you know how to take good care of yourself, right? Where is that chart? They get taken down. That's okay. Then we know how to take care of the people around us. And when we take care of the people around us, they know how to take care of the community. They are better stewards of the planet. I want to live in a world where people are healthy, happy, and whole. Because could you imagine what kind of world that would be? Just close your eyes for a moment and imagine that where everyone is healthy, everyone is happy, everyone is whole. What kind of world would that be? That's the world I want to live in. And I know it doesn't happen. If we wait until people get sick and then give them solutions that would make a healthy person sick. There's no medication. My wife's a pharmacist, retired now, thankfully, there's no medication that I could give a healthy person that would actually make them healthier. Right. We lower the standard and the capability that somebody has, even if we get them out of crisis. I mean, certainly there's a role for medicine. There's a role for our sick care system. Right. If somebody gets hit by a car, we need it. Right. But it's based on a kind of a military model. Right. It's based on a model of carnage and destruction. And there's nothing in that system to make you healthier. So think about this for a moment. I'm not here to bash the system. I just want to point out the stark reality of it. If you stayed in a hospital for a month, would you be healthier after that month, or would you be sicker after that month? So how can we expect people to go there and get healthier? We can allow them to live and survive in the hopes that they find the answers that they're looking for. So we believe that the doctor of the future is a patient. And Gary's given me permission to share. And he asked me after my talk in Vegas. He's like, can you help me? And I said, only if you're willing to help yourself. And he said, I'll do whatever you say. And that's why he stands before you as a model. Right. You know, I think he. I know he did this for himself, but I also, deep down, believe inside my heart that he also did this for all of you, to show you what's possible. Right. He can't pour into you unless he has poured into himself first. The health is really interesting because this morning I was trying to light the sage. If you've ever lit a big piece of sage like that, it takes a big honking fire to raise it. I'm back there and I'm trying to light this thing up, and the fans in here were just blowing out the flame. I had to go back into the kitchen and ask one of the nice ladies to offer me the stove to light the sage. And our health is the same way. So when you think of a candle, a gust of wind can extinguish the candle. However, if you have a forest fire, what does a gust of wind do? It rages the fire. So we have to look at our health the same way. Is our health a candle that can be extinguished by just the smallest flame, the smallest thought, the incidental meal. Right. The sleepless night, whatever that is. Or do we have this raging fire of health that is empowered when adversity strikes, where we have the right tools and the capabilities to show up so that we can pour into others. I love what I do. I love empowering people. I love waking up every day getting messages from people telling me that they believe in their bodies again. There's really nothing more powerful than that. You are right now performing one septillion functions at the same time. That's a one with 24 zeros in every single moment right now. And now, and now, and now. You are the highest expression of the entire cosmos. If a single cell from your body was found on any planet, let's say Mars as an example, it would be the greatest discovery of humankind. So I help people discover that they are the universe's highest, most magnificent creation. There's nothing more amazing than you think about that. All these organs, all these cells coordinating functions simultaneously so that you can experience this beautiful planet. So health to me is something that I think is really important for us to all define, right? So health to me means I can show up the way I want to show up to do the things I want to do, when I want to do them, and enjoy the experiences that life has to offer. Raise your hand if you want to enjoy the experiences that life has to offer. Right? And it's hard to do that when you're in pain. It's hard to do that when you're tired. It's hard to show up a certain way if you feel exhausted. And unfortunately, more and more people are showing up that way. This is the first generation of children that will live a shorter lifespan than their parents. Why is that? Have we reached the heights of humanity? We have all this research, all this money, all this advancement, but kids are living a shorter lifespan. Childhood cancers are going up astronomically. Why is that? Why do we have one of the highest childhood death rates of any country in the United States? Why is that? It's because nobody is focused on health creation. You know, so when I speak to people, they say, well, you do preventative medicine or preventative healthcare. And the first thing I say is absolutely not. Because whatever we fear, we facilitate, whatever we give our energy to, we are actually co creating. Okay, so let's think about this for a moment. If I want to have more cancer occurring, I just have more cancer runs. Because the more I put that idea and that word into the consciousness of people, we co create that reality. So we don't talk about diseases, we don't talk about illnesses, we don't talk about diagnoses, because how many more are we going to invent? How many different diets can you have to prevent all the different diseases that people dread? It's impossible. There's over 10,000 different diagnosis codes that we could diagnose somebody's problem with. So our philosophy is health creation. So if a plant is wilting, let's say if this plant started wilting, we intuitively know that it probably needs more water, maybe it needs more sunlight, maybe it needs to be repotted or resoiled. Do we ever blame the plant for wilting? No, because that deflects the responsibility. But why is it that we blame the body when we start wilting? The very thing that created itself, the very thing that is the wellspring of energy, the interface between your soul and this entire universe. Why do we blame that? That's the only thing that's working for you, right? It's working harder for you than anything or anyone else on this entire planet. So it's really our obligation to take as good care of ourselves as we possibly can. And so I want to start with a really quick exercise that I think will be helpful, and that is like creating an operating definition, okay? So health means different things to different people. So I want you to write this down, and we're going to discuss this at our tables really briefly. The first thing I want you to ask yourself is, what does health mean to you? Why is your health important to you? Who is your health important to? And what's stopping you from being the healthiest version of yourself? What's stopping you from being the highest expression of the essence of who you are, the soul that you are? So because my time is limited, we'll give you just a couple minutes to discuss that at your table. And this should be something that doesn't require much thought. You should know this intuitively. Okay? So we'll give you two minutes to discuss that amongst your tables, and we'll be right back. All right? Wonderful. Yes. So who would like to share what their definition of health is? Any volunteers? We said freedom. Freedom, okay? In the deserve level thing, like, I deserve this. Like, I worked really hard. You deserve this. Your creator deserves you to be healthy, too, right? You were. We're all built with a purpose, right? We're all built in this time. We were born in this time for a specific reason. There's no accidents, right? My philosophy is God makes no junk. Or you're built in the image of perfection, and you should be free from illness, disease, from negative thinking, and have tools and Capabilities to escape those situations when we find ourselves in them. So on your desk or on your tables is a sample of or a full month's supply of nitric oxide. And what you also have are some test strips. You have to wait about 15 minutes until you can test. And this will test your nitric oxide levels. You can then retest after taking two capsules. And this will show you the difference, the delta, in your nitric oxide levels. Now, this is a big part of what you guys do in practice. So make sure at some point today, after you've not eaten or drank anything, you can drink water, but no coffee for 15 minutes. You test yourself, wait 90 minutes, and then wait 90 minutes and retest yourself.
After taking the capsules.
Yes, that's right. Thank you, Deepa. So after taking the capsules, nitric oxide is one of the most powerful molecules discovered. In fact, the person who discovered it won a Nobel prize for it. We've got a cardiologist here who can tell you how important it is. But it's particularly important for dental practitioners as well, because our oral microbiome is what helps us make nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is also antiviral and antibacterial, and it actually purifies the air that we breathe in through our nose. Okay, so that's what you have on your desk. Now, what I'd love to do as an exercise is I want to walk you through what a beautiful, healthy day can look like, what an intentional day can look like. So first things first. We want to realize that there's three ways. The three fastest ways to improve our health are really simple. The fastest way to change your physiological state is by changing how you breathe. Your breath is the steering wheel of your nervous system, and many people's nervous systems are stuck in fight or flight. Your nervous system is not meant to be nervous all the time. Now, what happens when we're in this sympathetic state is it completely changes the instructions that our cells receive. When we're in a sympathetic state, our body goes into a state of survival. Blood that would normally be going to our trunk organs, our liver, our digestive organs, our kidney, our reproductive organs, arms and legs, so that we can escape or run away or fight off whatever the threat is. What also happens is probably going to be the thing that leads to most chronic illnesses. It is an intelligent adaptation to a unregulated response. So here's the thing with stress. Stress is not about the stimulus. Stress is about the perception of the stimulus. So if a lion were to walk in here, what would happen, all of us would immediately gasp. Okay? What gasping does is it squeezes our heart so it can pump blood to our arms and legs immediately. Okay? So every time we breathe, we give our heart a nice hug. What also happens is our amygdala recognizes that there is this stressor in the room and based on our values, beliefs and experiences, creates a response. That fight or flight response is a result of our beliefs, our experiences, and our values. If a child was in this room and they saw a lion, they would probably walk towards it because they have a different belief system around that lion. So when we change our beliefs and our values, the way stress affects us completely changes. But let's assume that the lion is a threat to us. Our cortisol will immediately go up. Cortisol's main job is in your physiology, is to actually raise blood sugar. So this is why we see that almost 70% of Americans are metabolically unfit or insulin resistant. And it's because they have this chronic low grade cortisol that's pumping through their veins constantly. And as a result of that, they become insulin resistant. Their blood sugar becomes high. But what also happens is there's a reduction in blood flow to their trunk organs. When there's a reduction in blood flow to our trunk organs, they go into a state of suspended animation. In fight or flight, there's an 80% decrease of blood flow to our digestive system. So why is it that 70% of Americans have some sort of digestive disorder? I mean, of course it has to do a lot with the food that we eat, but could it have to do with how our nervous system is stuck in fight or flight? When we're in fight or flight, there's a 90% decrease of blood flow to our liver and our kidneys. Your liver has 800 functions in your body. 800. So we think of the liver and we think of detox, we think of bile production, but there's so many things that it does it. Your liver is the only organ that can completely regenerate itself. So if we send blood to it, guess what? It starts healing not a year from now. It starts healing immediately. Infertility rates are on the rise. One of the best cures or treatments for infertility is stress reduction. The best birth control is stress. We actually have a population collapsing level of fertility right now. So if you were to study the human species as a biologist, we would be on the endangered species list. We are the sickest we've ever been, but we have the opportunity to be the healthiest and most vital that we've ever been, if we focus on the right things, if we focus on health creation instead of disease prevention. You know, virtually every drug that's ever been created binds to a receptor because our body makes that chemical. You are the pharmacy. You are the doctor. You are the surgeon. You are all of it wrapped into this beautiful vessel. You have all this capability built inside of you. How we breathe matters. We have whole workshops. Deepa is going to be taking notes. We're going to send you a whole bunch of tools and resources to help you and support you. How we breathe matters. One of the best ways to breathe is to just slow down your breath. Place your tongue at the roof of the mouth, relax your jaw. Six seconds in, six seconds out. This is what we call coherence breathing. If you can breathe this way and make this your default breathing pattern, your heart and your brain will stay connected. So one of the things that it's interesting, I get this often people come up to me and say, you make me feel calm just being in your presence. And a lot of that has to do with how I breathe. You can be the calm in the storm. If you learn how to breathe correctly, and if you teach this to your children, if you teach it to your team members, they can be the calm, Right? Most people that come into our offices, they're coming from a storm. How can we get them to calm down? How can we get them to. To calm down so they can hear what we're saying? Our memory improves, our cognition improves, our ability to go back and tell our spouse what we were just told improves when we're in the right state. A really simple exercise that you can do is called a physiologic sigh. We did it yesterday. And basically, if you take a breath into your belly, the next sip of air into your lungs, and the next sip of air into your throat and let it out with a audible sigh, you do that four or five times with your eyes closed, you will see the powerful difference it makes. So you can practice that, you know, throughout the weekend and throughout the rest of your lives, really. And if you do this with your clients, it's going to shift how they feel. If your clients are anxious or nervous when they come in, because sometimes they can be, this is a great way to shift their physiology. Now, here's the thing. People will not remember everything that you tell them, but they will never forget how you make them feel. So this is a great tool for yourself, but also a great tool in your practice for your clients. The second Thing that makes a profound difference in your health that easily and often gets overlooked is lighting. Lighting is information to your nervous system. And so one of the things that has shifted that has a profound impact on our health. And you'll probably hear about this more in the next five years or so, is the light bulbs that we use. If you ever look at the spectrum of light that's emitted from an LED bulb and, and you compare it to a tungsten bulb, you will see that lighting has been weaponized against you. LED lights over express blue light. And because of that it keeps our cortisol levels high. This is why people, when they come home, they're like all energized at work and they crash when they come home, when they should have energy for their families. So one of the best things you can do in the morning is, is go for a 10 minute walk. A 10 minute walk tells your brain what time of day it is. This tells you what time of day it is. It doesn't tell your brain what time of day it is. Nowadays lighting is constantly coming from overhead sources. So what time do you think your brain thinks it is all day? It's 12 o', clock, right? It's midday. So no wonder people have sleep related issues. Last night we had a bonfire. How many of you slept really good last night? Okay, so think about that for a moment. The source of lighting is coming from the ground up. It's hitting a different part of your retina. Moonlight, candlelight and fire does not lower melatonin. Only about 2 to 5%. Artificial lighting, specifically LED lighting, lowers melatonin 40%. Melatonin isn't just for a good night's sleep. Melatonin is one of your most important immunomodulating hormones that you make. So I could drive by somebody's condo or apartment, like we have a lot of condos and apartments where we used to live. And I could look into somebody's house and I can tell you who's going to have cancer in the next five years just by their lighting, they're shutting off their natural production of melatonin. So the direction of lighting makes a difference, the color, temperature of lighting makes a difference. And if you look at a tungsten bulb, which is the bulbs we all grew up using, their light spectrum mirrors a sunrise and a sunset. And we didn't grow up, our parents didn't have sleep issues, our grandparents didn't have sleep issues. But millions upon millions of people have sleep challenges. And when we sleep is when we heal, that's when we're repairing. Sleeping is the most powerful healing modality. What do children do when they're unwell? There's three things that they do. They sleep, they shut up, and they stop eating. Okay, so fasting is actually a really, really powerful modality. Fasting is actually spoken about in every single religion talks about fasting, every single one. So when clients come to me, the first thing said, what should I eat? I said, well, let's focus on when you should be eating and when you should not be eating. So a really powerful tool is something called intermittent fasting. Some of you might already be doing this where you give your body a chance to rejuvenate and repair. Instead of focusing on digestion, every meal we have causes an immune system response every single meal. So when they say eating more often increases your metabolism, it's true, it does increase your metabolism. However, it's activating your immune system, it's activating your digestive system. All of these organs have to start playing and working in order to digest that meal. Imagine you could liberate that energy and that effort and the organs can focus on healing and repairing themselves. So some of you might start with a 12 hour fast every day, then work your way up to 16. David Sinclair, supposedly the world's leading longevity expert, he eats one meal a day. In every single study that's ever been done. Calorie restriction has been one of the most powerful tools for increasing lifespan. And here we are, we have a food industry that tells us to eat more, eat more, eat more. The third tool that's really powerful, and I kind of hinted towards it, is sleep. What gets tracked gets improved. What gets tracked and measured, and we're held accountable to improves exponentially. So all of our clients get an OURA ring. And an OURA ring is a sleep tracking ring that tells me how much deep sleep I got, how much REM sleep I got, how much I was tossing and turning every night. And I can see with short feedback loops if what I'm doing is working. It's interesting. Many of our clients, we don't have to tell them to stop drinking. They just look at their scores and they see that they don't get any deep sleep when they drink alcohol. It just destroys your sleep along with your microbiome and your brain and a whole bunch of other things. I'm not here to judge anyone. But here's the thing. When you have that data, you make better decisions. So in medicine right now, we have very long feedback loops. Maybe you go to the doctor every six months or Every year or every couple of years. So we don't really know when we get those numbers back. What did I do to cause a positive effect or a negative effect? We believe in short feedback loops. Another great tool that some of you might consider, if you haven't already you, is a continuous glucose monitor. Has anyone here ever worn a continuous glucose monitor? Okay, what'd you discover? Eric? Okay. Yeah. So. So one of the things that Gary's actually doing this right now, I think he's already done it, but we're waiting for the results, is a food inflammation test. So one person's food could be another person's source of chronic inflammation. For me, my sources of chronic inflammation are cauliflower. It doesn't have to be cow's milk and eggs. Supposedly these are relatively healthy foods. Deepa had cinnamon on hers, so every time her immune system sees this particular food and this protein structure, it reacts with inflammation. Time magazine calls inflammation the silent killer. So when we. Yes.
Is there a specific test that needs to be taken in order to check?
Yes. Yeah, it's a fit test. So it's a food inflammation test.
All these are at home tests, which.
That's why I really love it.
You don't have to go to any space to get these tests done. Beg or prick. Send it in and he reviews the findings.
Thank you. Yeah, so we love that a lot of the tests that. I mean, many of the tests that we do can be done from the comfort of your home. So finger pricks, saliva, urine, stool if we need it. These are ways to kind of see what's happening inside of your body. Okay. And sometimes we need to get blood draws or we might suggest them, but a lot of it can be done from the comfort of your home. Now, here's another thing that I want to talk about, which you can change immediately today. I like to have immediate effect is not just what you eat, because we might not know what's causing inflammation and what isn't, but I do know that how you eat also matters. So we get people that come to us, and we're usually like their eighth opinion. And they've seen all kinds of practitioners, tried all kinds of supplements, all kinds of diets. And the first question I'll ask them is, has anyone talked to you about how you eat? And like, well, what do you mean? I'm like, well, do you chew your food? And most of them will say no. Right. They inhale their food. Do you sit when you eat? You know, many of our clients are women, and so a lot of Times, you know, they're feeding their children, but they're standing up and they're maybe popping something into their mouth and barely chewing it. So how you eat matters just as much, if not more in some cases than what you eat. It's easy to change how you eat. You can change that today. When we chew our food, it sends an important message to our brain. You guys probably already know this. It tells our body food is coming. The way we taste food and actually tasting our food tells our brain what nutrients are coming, what the macronutrient breakdown of our food is, how much protein and fat and carbohydrates are coming. When we chew our food, it increases stomach acid. When we increase stomach acid, we break down our proteins into amino acids, but we also kill viruses and pathogens and bacteria that we don't want in our small intestines when we don't digest our proteins and when we don't digest our food thoroughly, it actually feeds the wrong type of bacteria in our microbiome. So making stomach acid is actually crucial and vital because it then signals the pancreas and the gallbladder to do their job properly. It's fascinating because when people come to us, we try to minimize supplements as much as we can. And so within two or three days, a lot of their digestive system symptoms start to disappear just by chewing their food. I want you to think of digestion like a car wash. Would you ever go into a car wash backwards? Probably not, right? Would you ever go into a car. I know Gary loves car washes. Would you ever go into a car wash, Gary, if one of the steps was missing? Hell no. Right? Because each step relies on the previous step being done. Just remember this, you'll have a little sachin sitting on your shoulder today when you have lunch, encouraging you to chew your food, cheering you on. You should make a little, I have little sticker faces, I can give them to everyone. You can put them on your shoulders. But chewing your food will is so vital and so crucial. Again, this is embarrassingly simple stuff, right? So don't let the simplicity fool you, right? So a lot of times people come to us and they're taking a garbage bag full of supplements. They don't know why they're taking them. And many of the reasons they're taking these supplements is because of a dysfunctional self awareness. So a few tips to help you when you are eating. Slow down. You want to send blood to your digestive organs. When somebody comes to me and says, you know Satchin, I have high blood Pressure, my digestion sucks. I can't sleep at night. My cholesterol is high. I can't focus. You know, there's obviously a medication and there's a supplement for all of those things. But in our philosophy, what I do is actually congratulate them. Like, congratulations, your body's doing exactly what it's supposed to do. You're just in fight or flight. You're just stuck in this perpetual state of fight or flight. So of course you're not going to digest your food. Of course your mind is going to be scattered. Of course you're not going to be able to sleep. Of course your cholesterol is going to be high. Of course your blood pressure is going to be high. Because that's actually a healthy response to a unhealthy interpretation of your environment, right? What happens when you go for a run? Does your blood pressure go up or down? Goes up. If it went down, then you would be sick, right? Then something would be wrong. If the lion walked into this room and all the blood went to your digestive system and started digesting your food, that would be an unhealthy response. So your body never makes mistakes, just like your car, right? Your car doesn't make mistakes. If there's a car that gets into an accident, do we ever blame the car?
Somebody created the car.
But here's the thing, really, the ownership is on us, right? Ultimately, it falls back on us. Now, one of my hesitations of giving people a garbage bag full of supplements, because I used to do that at one point, is that the message that goes home with that bag of supplements, it's that they tell their kids that you can do, eat, live however you want. Just take this, right? And I'm not willing to be part of that message. There is a time and a place, but there's so many things that we can't even test for, right? Is there a test for if you got sunlight this morning and walked on the beach? Is there a test for how much you love your job? Right. Is there a test for how much you love your spouse? Is there a test for how well you chewed your food? Is there a test for what time you went to bed, what type of lighting there is in your home? There isn't, right? So we're always missing something. We made a list of about around 85 things that there's no lab test for. So it will never be discussed, it'll never be measured in a traditional practitioner's office. There's nothing wrong with that. We just don't have the tools to measure these things. However, it doesn't make them any less important. So I'm going to give you a list. I have a list that I created called 100 Ways to Win the day. Because many times we hang our hat on what we ate that day or how we. If we exercise that day. Right. Because exercise and nutrition obviously play a huge role in our health. But there's more things that you can hang your hat on. Did you know that polyester clothing leeches microplastics into your body? Every time you wash a lululemon shirt, it leaches 700,000 microplastics into the water system. Did you know that polyester underwear lowers testosterone? Right. So that's why I went to all natural fabrics.
Also sheets. We went to linen sheets. Oh, my gosh.
Huge difference. Huge. So linen. Interesting thing about linen is that if you go to pubmed and you study linen sheets, linen actually accelerates wound healing. It accelerates wound healing. They used to have linen sheets in hospitals, but now they don't because they're so much more expensive. Linen is made from flax. That's kind of weird, but I didn't know that. And linen is anti static as well. So many people who have restless leg syndrome, at night, their restless leg goes away because there's no static in the sheets. Okay. If you go to. Has anyone here been to Italy? What do they wear there? Linen. All day, every day. Because there's no static in the material. Right. Doesn't cling to your body. Another superior material. And you don't want to wear linen and wool together. But is wool. So all my underwear is wool. This top is wool. These pants are cotton. So going back to natural materials can make a huge difference. Yes. So the problem with bamboo is that it's very highly processed. So if you think about bamboo, bamboo is very hard. Right. They use it for construction and things like that. So they have to take it through a rigorous chemical process in order to soften the fibers. So it can be quite toxic to the environment. And then it's so far removed from its natural self. Right. Like sheep wear wool all day. Right. It truly is a superior material. All my workout clothes are made out of wool. You can literally take a wool T shirt, wear it out of the dryer, or wear it out of the washer, and in 10 minutes it'll be dry. It truly is a superior material. Okay, so these are some simple things. Right? Simple things that you can do. And they start adding up things that we don't think about. Like, you don't learn about this in school. Right. I've just accumulated all this knowledge because I like going down rabbit holes. I was telling Gary just yesterday, I get bored so easily and it's a gift and a curse. And it's a gift because it's taken me down so many different rabbit holes. And then I just bring that back in simple ways. I mean, how simple is it to change your sheets to linen sheets? How simple is it to change your underwear, you know, to wool underwear. Right. How simple is it to look at. I used to wear my whole out, my whole wardrobe I was so proud of. This was Lululemon.
Canadian.
Yeah. So I had about like probably $4,000 worth of Lululemon clothing that just now sits in my closet. I won't even donate it to somebody. I won't give it away to people because I know what it can do to you. What else? There's so much to talk about. Why not cotton on the water? I mean, cotton's fine too. But if you look at the frequency of fabric, you can Google this. Our, the frequency of our body is about 10 to 15 hertz. Cotton's about 100. Wool and linen are 5,000 hertz. So they actually raise our vibration. So look it up. Just look up the frequency of fabrics and you can go down that rabble. If you ever study ancient cultures, the materials that they wear are excruciatingly important to them. In India, they actually have a 1500 year old process where they dye bed sheets in herbs because it carries the energetic signature of those herbs. And so they wear those materials as well. So all kinds of cool things that you can discover there.
Can I see something here?
Yep.
I'm like, sachin, I want the blue pill.
What?
Just give me a supplement. Which one? Not the matrix one, by the way. Oh, by the way, if you want that one, that nitric oxide. No, I'm not kidding you.
Great for couples.
I, I was watching because like we now have like red bulbs in our, our bedroom. So you get a red bulb?
Yep. We travel with these.
So gives you the nitric oxide.
Right.
Which is like total, like mind blowing blood flow everywhere. No, I'm not. No, I'm not kidding you. And then you have linen sheets on top of it.
I'm like.
And my wife's like, hey, I think I, I want to get me some Sacha too. And she goes, call Sachin. Call Sachin. So it's our little joke inside. But I'm thinking like, the reason why this blew my mind is because it was Nothing of what I expected I was going to get. And I love that. And like, the last question was. I forgot the last question. But it was like, why don't you change? Here's what I didn't know. I didn't know how badly I was feeling. I didn't know how tired I was. I had no benchmark for feeling the most amazing I've ever felt in my life. I'm 60 years old, healthiest I've ever been. Because I used to drink when I was like this weight. I never slept. Like I said, I never ate.
Like, I.
The intermittent fasting. Like, it was hard for a day. But they have this homeopathic spray that removes the hunger. And I'm like, what? Everything that seems hard here that is hard to implement, they have a system to overcome it. It's the most profound thing that you created. I called him several times. I go, I see what you've done here. So. And what you've done. I'm glad you get bored because you figured out so many things where people get stopped. But the biggest thing for me at this point was you're telling me a light bulb and are going to really make a difference. I'm like, this is a bunch of malarkey. I'm like, are you a quack? No, I didn't like, you know. But I'm not kidding you. And then he told me, he said, 1% of each of the things add up and they truly, truly do. And a lot of these things are automatic. They're just automatic. And this whole idea of sympathetic parasympathetic and the stress hormones, game changer. I was living in a constant state of cortisol injections and there's no rest to my body. My body never rested. I used to drink my rev sleep. I had no clue. Like, he talks about short feedback loops. I'm a numbers guy. I love hearing like, I'm gonna play the game.
What's the game?
I wear this damn ring. And we, we've. We've done airway. We've been doing these rings forever. But I didn't have what John taught us. Like, the guy was just doing the thing and he didn't know how it fit into the whole thing, what Sachin does. And this is why I really love it because, like, we're gonna all get healthy if we choose to better. But we can also apply it to our airway practices. This all fits inside of the communication around dentistry. So the layers of this thing is extraordinary.
Thank you. Yeah.
And I can't. I Just had to pop up because I didn't think chewing my food made a difference. I didn't think overhead lighting shut off at a certain time. Can you get into some of the other red light stuff, like all the things we put on our computers, like the iPhones and all that?
Yeah, sure. So I have my phone here. And you know, Apple's even aware of this too. That's why they created a night shift mode. But what I do is like, so my phone looks like this, but after I press my power button three times, like it's an accessibility feature. Now my phone turns red. So I try to avoid devices as much as I can. Emails and things like that before bedtime. But now I don't have this phone blasting me, telling my brain that it's daytime and stimulating me.
Anybody read your phone before you go to sleep? Anybody have it near your bed? This one thing right here, all like, alter, like the energy. He talks about the circadian rhythm and, and letting the body take its natural state. You know, this is almost like we got too far advanced, the food went sideways, all this stuff. And I feel like I'm going back to like the 1940s and 50s, which when there was no freaking disease.
Yeah.
And then the gluten free was probably the hardest thing for me. And even though my family is gluten free and I don't know what it is, I have this. I'm a Eastern European European, addicted to like muffins and stuff like that. I just love muffins and all that. What a cake. That's 500 calories of it. And wondering why I'm 30 pounds overweight, you know. Anyway, I'm sorry.
That's okay. No, I appreciate that. Yes. One question.
You're talking about the overhead lighting. Does the frequency or the temperature of.
The light, so intensity, direction and color temperature.
So warmer. I mean, you can't. How do you find tungsten?
So you can find tungsten in specialty lighting stores. You'll be able to find tungsten bulbs sometimes. Amazon might have them as well. And another hack if you're looking for one is pet stores. Because if you put an LED bulb in a reptile cage, it would die. But if you go with the warmer.
LED lights, that's better.
Yep. Yeah. So 2700 Kelvin is what we encourage at nighttime. That's. That's about as warm as they get. And some people may not know this, but, like the way LED bulbs save money is they flicker on and off. So 60 Hz is the rate that they flicker at because that's the rate that our brain refreshes visually at as well. So we can't see the light flickering, but it's flickering. So 50% of the information is actually missing. To our brain, our unconscious brain is like, where's the rest of the information? So lighting is actually extremely powerful information. The direction of the sun. Thank you. Tells our brain what time of day it is. And what we've done is before they invented the light bulb, the average person used to sleep 10 hours a night, and now we're lucky if we sleep six or seven. So that isn't three hours filled with meditation, chanting. It's three hours filled with being on the computer or watching tv. And again, nothing wrong with those things. But how do we mitigate? So another way to mitigate is blue blocking glasses. So if you want to watch your favorite TV shows, you can actually get glasses. They're red, that block out the blue and green light. You ever notice. So this is a fun thing, observation tonight. You ever notice that when you go outside at nighttime, everything that's green looks black? Right. So if you look out in the hills, it looks completely black. The water looks completely black because there's no blue or green light. So there's nothing to reflect off of those, you know, off of those things. So that's why when we go to bed at night, what we do the hour before we go to bed, which is one of the most important things in our healing journey, which is sleep plays a huge role. Right. Our brain actually goes through a car wash every night. 50% of your growth hormone production takes place between 10pm and 1am so when my clients tell me they go to bed at 12, I'm like, well, there's no growth hormone, so how are you going to feel the next day? How do I expect you to feel? These things make a big, huge difference. And like Gary said, they add up. We believe in the compound effect. If there's a hundred ways to win your day, you know, you only eat three meals a day, there's several other ways that you could do better.
Can I ask about that?
Yes.
Is it best to wake up to the sunlight? You know, people put those blackout shades on. I don't like blackout shades. I like to wake up to the sun. But I don't know, is one of them better than the other?
Well, it depends on if you wake up before the sun, then there are actually alarm clocks that light up and it mimics a sunrise in your room. So you can. Philips makes those. So you can get. We have one of those in our room because we generally tend to wake up before the sun, especially in the winter. So, yeah, you can get alarm clocks that do that for you. And some people have automatic shades that open up so you can program them to open up at a certain time as well. Yeah. So every animal, insect, and plant on the entire planet regulates its biology based on the rising and setting of the sun. Except humans. Right. So that's why we become so disconnected. Another really simple thing, and I'll end with this, is, you know, Gary talked about having passive strategies, Right. So once you put these light bulbs in, it's a passive strategy. You walk into your room, the red light is on. Another great passive strategy is a grounding mat. A grounding mat. Humans are the only animals that are disconnected physically from the earth. That's why we feel so good when we walk on the beach or get our bare foot in the grass. Bare feet in the grass because it dissipates the negative electrons. We're energetic beings. A grounding mat is something that you can buy for your desk, which plugs into the grounding outlet. It looks like a big mouse pad, but now you're dissipating those electrons. So it's the equivalent to having your feet, especially in the winter, the equivalent to having your feet in the grass. And I just have that on my desk all day. You can get filters, digital filters for your computer, too. One is called flux, and we'll send you all the links to all this stuff. So justgetflux.com and it's a filter that, as the sun sets, it changes the color temperature of your screen, so it's not as intense with blue.
All right, can you share what you shared this morning at our clear and create about the profession that you were.
Going to go into? Oh, yes. So real quick, I'll keep this brief. So in. In high school, I actually won my woodworking award. So I love working with my hands. I love working with tools, power tools especially. And so when it came time for me to choose what I wanted to be when I grow up, I still don't know. But when I had to pick a profession, I narrowed it down to either chiropractic or dentistry, because you get to work with your hands all day, and I just love that possibility. And I started getting dental school catalogs and everything I read about dentistry at the time stopped here. And I'm like, I want to make a bigger impact on people's lives, Because I didn't know I was stuck in the old paradigm, the paradigm that some of your colleagues might be stuck in, maybe some of you were stuck in many years ago. Of that. It stops here, but really it starts here. Right. This is where all your health actually starts. Right. So what comes out of your mouth changes your life. What goes in your mouth changes your life. And what lives in your mouth changes your life as well.
Well, that's a great quote. And so that's a dub moment.
So what goes. Yeah, sure. So what comes out of your mouth changes your life. What goes in your mouth changes your life. And what lives in your mouth changes your life. And I was telling Gary and the team this earlier. Had I come across this form of dentistry, I'd probably be a dentist today.
