Why Your Supplements Aren't Working It's Not What You Think

Carolyn Allen explains why most supplements fail: your body needs all 18 essential minerals in balance, not megadoses of one. Fulvic acid acts as a carrier to boost mineral absorption, while humic acid binds toxins. Start with fulvic-based products to increase energy, then slowly add humic for detoxification.

Hello, my friends, and welcome to another episode of— Hello, my friends, and welcome to a very special episode of the Precision Wellness Practice. Today I have a dear friend and somebody who has supported me in my health with her wonderful knowledge and her wonderful products. We have Carolyn Allen joining me today, and we're gonna be talking about something that is truly foundational for your own personal health. And for your clients' personal health, and of course the health of their family, which is minerals. And we're gonna take this from a perhaps a new paradigm perspective. One of the things I was talking to Carolyn about is sometimes the foundation gets forgotten, and when there's cracks in the foundation, it doesn't matter how much you fix the roof or fix the electrical work. It matters how much you fix the core and at get to the root of what's going on. And because of the state of the world we live in, the quality of the food that we eat and the stressors from our environment and from our emotions, it's imperative that we address minerals because they are foundational. And, you know, we're all evidence-based practitioners. There's a lot of evidence that supports minerals and how our cells use them. However, we need to find solutions that actually work because taking, you know, a bottle of minerals doesn't mean they're gonna get into the cell. It doesn't mean they're in the right ratios and it doesn't mean they're gonna do the things that you want them to do. And then you might even dismiss them as a modality altogether. So, you know, Carolyn spent a lot of time researching this topic. She's in fact just released a book and we're gonna share with you how she's going to gift this book to you as a practitioner so that you can learn more about minerals and really bring this into your practice. So we'll share more about that in a moment. And we're gonna have some fun. I've known Carolyn for many years and she's just a ball of joy and love and light, and I know you're gonna enjoy the energy that she brings. So without further ado, Carolyn, welcome. Thank you for joining me today.
Thank you so much for having me, Sachin. I always look forward to an opportunity to hang out with you.
Well, thank you. So let's dive right in because this is a hot topic right now, "The Mineral Reset." Tell us what went into writing this book. I know you've put a lot of love and energy into it. Maybe tell us a little bit more about, you know, all the work that was involved in putting this book together.
Yeah, you know, the book is really the pinnacle of about 10 years of work on my part. And really it started with my own health journey where I was really in ill health and simply by using something called Fulvic and Humic, which are mineral complexes, I radically changed my health for the better. And as a result, I started doing a huge amount of research 'cause I literally knew nothing about minerals. And in fact, I didn't even know how my body really worked. So at an energetic or, energy generation level. And as I began researching, I started having these huge aha moments. And those aha moments are really what I captured in the book because what I recognized is that it's actually a very complex subject when you start talking about minerals. And I wanted to kind of break it down for people, whether you're a practitioner or a patient, you know, we're all sometimes patients, whether you're a practitioner or not.
Yeah.
So the information is, incredibly useful for anyone. And I put it into the book. I was really lucky to have met some people who helped me along the way, but it's been about a 4-year process of writing the book and both to structure it in a really super accessible way, but also to make it cited all the way through with scientific information so that— Mm-hmm. I wasn't just saying stuff, but I was making sure that the people who want to go to that next level of detail can connect through to the scientific information.
You know, I love that. I love that you've brought, you've taken something that, you know, we jokingly say may not be the sexiest or the most trendiest topic because there's lots of things in the zeitgeist right now. And you've brought new life to it. Kind of like what I'm trying to do with breathing, something that's so simple, something that we can take for granted. It's, it's almost invisible to us.
Yeah.
And we're trying to, we're trying to give these foundational approaches more life and, you know, attract people to these, you know, concepts because they can very easily be overlooked. So tell me, why do you think minerals can get easily overlooked by clinicians or even patients if they're watching this?
Yeah. You know, I think there's a couple reasons, and I think the breathing metaphor is so perfect. I mean, you know that just by mouth taping, I changed the structure of my face and changed my sinus, my sinuses. And because I do it all the time, I never even thought to look at my breathing. And minerals are a lot the same way. So if you're in a room somewhere, or if you're driving or walking or whatever you're doing, if you look around you, all of the structure is minerals. So minerals are so ubiquitous that we don't even, like, whatever, it's a desk, it's a chair, it's a car, it's a road. But actually, if you break all of that down, in fact, your entire body, all of the structure is made of minerals. If you took all the water out, you'd be a little pile of minerals. So they're very humble substances, elements, but they are the structure for everything in the universe. And they carry all of the electrical current. So minerals and water, that's how current is carried throughout the entire universe. So they're extremely foundational and important. Now, there are a lot of different elements. If you think about the periodic table, that thing that you saw in high school, or maybe if you study biology or chemistry, you got a little bit more into detail about it. Those are all minerals. Now, your body doesn't use all of those minerals, but it uses 18. Some people say 22, but let's just talk about 18 minerals. And they're so fundamental. So every single biosynthesis process that happens in your body requires one mineral or another. Every single one. It's not like a nice to have, it's absolutely has to have it. So that's— that's already like all your thyroid and all your hormone production, all of your adrenals, all of your blood, you know, protein synthesis, you know, turning protein into something that your body can burn. All of those biological biosynthesis processes require minerals.
So just from a Minerals 101 standpoint, what are your favorite minerals? You know, when we think minerals, we may not even have like a, you know, a list of minerals that come up for us, even though we're probably thinking, once you mention them, people are like, "Oh, I didn't know that was a mineral," you know? So tell us, list some of those minerals for us and perhaps even your favorite ones.
Yeah, you know, it's so great because in the book I actually have this little area, this section that's like test your knowledge of minerals because I went around when I first was thinking of writing book and I asked all these people, very smart people, people in health and wellness, scientists, you know, people with PhDs, and asked them, can you name 5 minerals? And they, you know, they, they, oh, okay, magnesium, sodium, zinc, you know, they rarely could they actually name 5 minerals.
Mm-hmm.
And it's a really great question to ask, what is my favorite? Because The thing that I learned about minerals, because, and there's a lot of different protocols, certainly in practitioner world, that are focused on a specific mineral like magnesium as an example, or selenium, or chromium, or zinc, you know, for different things to support different aspects of your body. But what I learned that's so interesting is mineral balance is as important as mineral quality, I mean, quantity.
Mm-hmm.
So while I have certain, there are certain minerals that are, we call the macrominerals, your body uses a lot of, you truly need all of the macrominerals and the micronutrients. You need them all. And there are many minerals that even practitioners are like, might not have heard of, like molybdenum, vanadium, you know, copper, you know, You probably know you need copper, but you know, like, how do you figure out how much and all of that kind of thing? And then as a practitioner, how do you figure out how to get 18 minerals into your patients in the balanced ratios that they need to receive them so that they don't end up with a sodium-potassium imbalance or a magnesium-phosphorus-calcium imbalance that, you know, these things can have really adverse effects or a zinc overdose, you know, things like that. So these are the kind of ahas that really came into my mind. And I wanted to not only talk about minerals as a foundation and also as the, I call them the wood in a campfire. So if you're gonna build a campfire, you're gonna need some fuel, some heavy fuel, and that's like the minerals. You're gonna need some tinder, something that's really easy to light. And that's like the amino acids, many exist in your body, and then you're gonna need a match. And the mitochondria is like the match. It's the thing that allows you to turn that fuel into energy in your body.
Hmm.
So, and you need a lot of fuel, a lot of fuel. Just in one single neuron in your brain, you could have upwards of 2 million mitochondria.
Wow.
So that gives you just a conceptual framework for how much energy is being generated in your body consistently all the time. Now, if you have enough fuel, like total, you know, replete with fuel, your body can generate about 1,200 watts of electricity every day. But most people don't. So they're only generating like 200, 800, 600, sometimes much lower. And then their body can't generate enough energy. It can't fulfill all those biosynthesis processes. And then that leads to a whole bunch of potential chronic symptoms.
Yeah, I, after I asked my question, I understood. And after your explanation, I understood the fault in my thinking. It's almost like asking somebody, and, you know, and I'm approaching this from a beginner's mind. So I'm asking questions that might be coming up for other practitioners as well. And the fault in my thinking is that it's almost like asking a child, what's your favorite Lego piece, right? For a Lego set, or what's the most important piece of furniture in the IKEA box? Because if one of the screws is missing, even though what you might— you don't see the screws, you see the shelving and everything. If one of the screws is missing, the shelf is incomplete. Or if you got 2 or 3 too little of a certain part or too many of another part, right? Then you have all these leftovers that you have. What are you gonna do with the extra shelving when you actually, what you really needed was more screws to get the shelf together. Now the danger, or perhaps maybe it's not dangerous, maybe it is. You, you certainly, I'm here to learn, but is when people are megadosing individual minerals Uh, tell us why, if and why that might be a problem, um, and, and how to, how to correct it.
Yeah. And it, it comes out of the conceptual framework of the body as parts and pieces. So many practitioners have come from a world where they're looking at a heart and a lung and they're looking at the liver and they're looking at the kidneys and they're looking at tissues and bones and hormonal systems and, you know, the reproductive hormones or the thyroid or the adrenals, or they're looking at problems with the eyes or with Hearing or cognition, you know, ADHD. So, and because of the way our medical system and has the conceptual framework that it sits in, we tend to think, oh, I have a cognition problem. Oh, I have a muscle problem. Oh, I have a, and we don't look underneath.
Mm-hmm.
And to answer your question, we actually have to look underneath and we have to say, what's another conceptual framework that we could use in looking at the body. And the conceptual framework that I use is the body is a natural cellular ecosystem. It's completely made of single cells, and every cell has a requirement for minerals and amino acids as fuel for the mitochondria. So that's at the fundamental level. And then you have all of those biosynthesis processes that also require minerals as cofactors. So when a patient shows up in your field, in your practice, and what we recognize, and I'm sure you recognize this too, is that practitioners now aren't dealing with a patient that comes and says, "I'm having headaches." They come in and they say, "I'm not sleeping. I have headaches. I have brain fog. My gut's messed up. I'm cramping at night." You know, they've got like 4 or 5 different symptoms that they're dealing with. And you're like, "Okay." What am I going to do here? And what I'm saying is, if you start just, I'm just going to heal the headaches and I'm just going to heal the cramping and I'm just going to, I'm just going to hit it this way, what we end up doing is playing whack-a-mole. We fix one problem and another one crops up over here. We fix another and it crops up over there. And that's partly because we're not thinking holistically. And I'm not saying that there isn't a time when you need to focus on any specific symptom or, or system that's struggling. Absolutely. A really good example is me because I had gone— when I was ill, I, I had flatlined adrenals. I had really bad inflammation in my gut, even after being gluten-free for 7 years or so. I had bad inflammation in my mouth, been to many dentists trying to figure out what was wrong with and why I had such bad periodontal disease. I had recurring sinus infections because I had bad mold exposure event. I had, I didn't sleep at night. I've been an insomniac my entire life. But at this point, I couldn't, I would wake up 3, 4 times a night, even though I was doing hormone replacement. I've been doing it for years. But it really wasn't having its effect. I also have Hashimoto's, so I was taking thyroid. You can see the whole picture, right? It's a mess.
Right.
I was really struggling beyond, and don't even mention the brain fog, right? So, and then I started taking minerals and in this very bioavailable form and over about 8 or 9 months, all those symptoms, literally all of them resolved. And the thing that, that I know that I understand now is that I simply provided this foundational fuel and these foundational cofactors on a consistent basis. So if you think of my body working more like a forest than a car, you know, a car, you go every once in a while and you fill up the tanks, you know, and that works actually really well for a mechanical vehicle. But for a natural ecosystem, they like small incremental changes over time. They don't like droughts, they don't like floods, they don't like earthquakes, they don't like fires. You know, these are—
Mm-hmm.
These are big events. They like small incremental changes over time. And that's what I provided. I provided this full spectrum of balanced minerals into my system on a daily basis. And that's when my, my entire ecosystem began to gain the capacity to thrive.
Yeah. I love that analogy, right? Like the, or the differentiation between an ecosystem and something mechanical, like a car. And while they kind of, everything kind of has to work synergistically together in nature, there's no like equivalent to just pouring gas in the car, right? Everything happens in a very like unique and profound and a way that we're still trying to understand, right? As scientists and And explorers, we're still— nature has yet to share all of its mysteries with us, or they have yet to be figured out, but nature stays balanced. Right. And that's something that I think is important to help with practitioners understanding. If we're gonna follow the principles of nature, then it's about balance versus hitting things with a hammer. And so I'm curious, maybe you could talk about humic and fulvic because my suspicion is, is that's what keeps the balance. Yeah. In those ecosystems. And my understanding of humic and fulvic acid, I almost think of them like nature's artificial intelligence, but actual intelligence, not artificial, it's actual intelligence. So maybe explain to us a little bit more about humic and fulvic acid and why they're such miraculous structures.
Yeah. So there's, to understand what humic and fulvic are, from the study that I've done, I recognize them as Truly a natural technology to support cellular systems. And they are used in nature by all plants and most animals in the wild are utilizing humic and fulvic. Their cells are using humic and fulvic to uptake in minerals and nutrients, as well as also detoxifying. The cellular system. So they come from the decomposition of freshwater plants. And the reason that's important to recognize is that this is how nature works. I mean, all around nature works this way.
Okay.
So plants grow in the soil and when they grow, they pull nutrients from that soil and they use those minerals and nutrients for both energy generation and also for the structure that they're building, whether it's a small pea shoot or a huge redwood tree, right? So now at some point in nature, those plants die. And when they die, they fall and they decompose. And as they decompose, they go through a microbial process that delivers these incredible molecules, humic and fulvic, which are pre-formulated in the ratios of minerals that the plants, the future plants need. And it kind of makes sense because the interesting thing is that a cell in my body at a mitochondrial level uses minerals in the same ratios as a cell in a redwood tree because we all evolved from the same cellular soup.
Mm-hmm.
We all came from the same place. So, and there's always been, since the beginning of cellular life, the problem of how are we gonna get minerals into cells, into the mitochondria that are inside those cells so that those cellular systems can thrive. And clearly things have thrived because look around us at all the different shapes of cellular systems that are so beautiful and amazing. So the thing about humic and fulvic is they don't only hold all of the minerals that your body needs in those natural ratios, they also have additional capacity. And this is the difference between, let's say, taking a pill of calcium, you know, and putting it in your gut. Now you've got a lot of calcium relative to an ecosystem. It would be like, putting a wheelbarrow of calcium on the forest floor. Probably not that actually great for that ecosystem.
Right. It's gotta recover from something like that, right?
Exactly. And your gut, you know, this is what I try to help people understand about your gut. It's absolutely a very diverse, um, micro, uh, ecosystem of microorganisms, microbiota, fungi, um, bacteria, all sorts of different organisms in there, right? And first of all, they all need minerals 'cause guess what? They also utilize minerals at a mitochondrial level. Isn't that interesting?
Mm-hmm.
So your gut is absolutely this natural ecosystem and you're trying to create an opportunity for it to thrive. And what's interesting is it's a freshwater system, not a saltwater system. Your blood supply, that's like the ocean. It's like, it's a saltwater system and very close to the salinity of the ocean. But your gut, it's a freshwater system like the rivers and lakes on the earth. So imagine taking a salt, you know, salt-based electrolyte stick pack and putting it in that gut microbiome. What do you think those microorganisms do? They're like, oh my God, what are we gonna do here? This is saltwater. We don't, we're not happy. So your body has to pull a whole bunch of water and all sorts of balancing minerals and get rid, eliminate as much of that as possible.
And then what happens?
You dehydrate yourself.
Yeah. You know, there is, I've been thinking about this a lot. Like the, one of the recent fads or trends is the heavy use of electrolytes. Yeah. And electrolytes are minerals, right? But people are taking just so much sodium right now and it, it's become such a trend. And now that you're explaining it this way, I love that I'm looking at the you know, things flowing through me as a river, which makes total sense. And of course, when the river stagnates, that's when health issues start in the, in the ecosystem. And, you know, the blood as, as the, as the ocean, that's such a profound visual. Thank you for sharing that. It, it, it really made things click for me. And just the, you know, just the unabashed use of electrolytes lately. which is insane to me. It just didn't make sense that we would consume so much all at once. But now that you're telling me we're putting that salt into the river, it's gonna cause some problems in that ecosystem for sure.
And what do we have? We have people everywhere struggling so much with their guts. And, and we talk so much with athletes and athletes are the, they struggle the most when they go on their events. They don't even wanna take the, they, they know that the salt-based electrolytes mess up their gut, but they also think they need to them. So what if you could get all those electrolytes without the salt? And that's what humic and fulvic represent. Because guess what? There's always been the need to, for even, you know, a deer or a bear or a, you know, an animal in the wild that has intense needs for, you know, to run very fast for very long, or, you know, they need that level of electrolyte to to stimulate performance when they need that performance. And that's what humic and fulvic do. And the beautiful thing about humic and fulvic is, as I said, not only do they provide that full spectrum of minerals, so you're putting that in your gut, it's not sodium-based or it's not made from salts, it's made from plants.
Yeah.
And your gut recognizes the material. That's the interesting thing also. Your cells recognize humic and fulvic. And in fact, when a Fulvic molecule that's much smaller than a cell. So if you hold your hand in a fist, that would be a cell. And the humic, I mean, the fulvic molecule would be the size of the head of a pin. So it's very, very small. Hits up against the cell wall when it, and the cell goes, oh, that's fulvic. I know what fulvic is. And it lets it through any channel. It doesn't even, it doesn't even need to have a specific receptor in a specific channel. It's. any channel, if it's a magnesium channel, potassium, whatever channel it can get through, which is a really— so you're, you're enhancing the uptake of electrolytes into your cells. And that's where the cell, that's where the minerals need to get to, to have that impact on performance. Cuz that's where the campfires are.
Right. So it's like it's got the skeleton key to get in anywhere it needs to. It can enter any door that it needs to. It's always welcome. It's a welcome guest.
Exactly. And it carries that. So it's not just carrying one magnesium molecule or calcium, whatever. It's carrying that full spectrum of minerals. So it keeps the system, keeps the ecosystem in balance. You put that in your system, it's creating, it's supporting that ecosystem balance, not creating a concentration. And that's the biggest misunderstanding we have in the practitioner world and in the, you know, in all of the world of health and wellness is that you can just go down to the gas tank and fill up, you know, my magnesium tank or fill up my potassium tank or whatever, you know, name the mineral and you can just fill it up. It doesn't work like that. Not, not even close.
Not even close.
Yeah.
I mean, I'm definitely guilty of that. I use your, I use your products and humic and fulvic acid are a big component of what we do. And and how we, how I supplement and support my body. But you, again, you bring up a very excellent point that it's really about balance and not about, you know, just overemphasizing one thing at the expense of others. And the more we just dump that one thing in, like You know, there's people that take a lot of magnesium now. That's like a very popular mineral, but just dumping more magnesium into the system is not creating more balance. It's actually creating more imbalance. Am I understanding that correctly?
Yes, it's actually, it's really correct. And in fact, um, just to give you an example, so trainers of elite triathletes, um, I've spoken to them before and they struggle with their aging athletes having osteopenia and osteoporosis cuz they put so much magnesium into their gut. And what balances with magnesium? Calcium and phosphorus. And calcium, phosphorus is what your bones are made of. So if you're putting a huge amount of magnesium into your gut every single day, day in and day out for years, you are gonna deplete your bones. So that's— it's— I don't recommend it particularly for women in perimenopause and menopause. I know people use it for sleep or if they have elimination issues. But I have seen over and over again that when you use humic and fulvic and you're able to balance your system by providing all the minerals in these balanced ratios, those elimination issues, those sleep issues— I mean, I'm a, I'm a really good example because I was such a bad insomniac and now I sleep through the night most nights.
That's amazing. So, you know, when we think When we think of supplementation, we think of dosage, right? And if somebody reads the label on, you know, a, a bottle of, you know, let's call it humic and fulvic acid or, or mineral supplementation, they might think, oh, this doesn't have enough magnesium or it doesn't have enough selenium. Walk us through that thinking as well. I, I, I'm starting to get a sense of a theme here, but I just really wanna double down and, and make sure people understand this. How do we look at dosaging when it comes to humic and fulvic?
You know, so this is the interesting thing, and I talk about this in the book as well, and I think it really lays it out for people. You know, there's a whole conceptual framework around supplementation, and it's based on some numbers that were actually developed in a lab. You know, long ago, scientists recognized, or actually trainers recognized, that soldiers and athletes were struggling with their— they were crashing. You know, they get to a certain point, they'd pass out. They were like, oh my gosh, they're having electrolyte imbalance. We need to get electrolytes into them. They went into the lab and they ultimately developed things, you know, minimum daily requirements, MDRs, or recommended daily allowances, RDAs. And you see those on the back of supplemental facts panels or nutritional facts panels. You see there's certain percentage of that MDR, RDA. The problem is those actually have no reference point for any particular individual. So you and I, we eat differently, we have different lifestyles, lifestyles. We have different genetics and epigenetics. There are so many factors that our age, you know, so many factors that you're a man, I'm a woman that affect our mineral requirements just at that level. And then those mineral requirements moment to moment are very dynamic from the morning when I'm first waking up and just sitting around having my tea to, you know, when I'm at the gym working out really hard, you see. So the mineral requirements that you and I have, you, you can't base that on anyone's MDR or, or RDA. And that's where the concept of dosage comes from. Cause somebody said, okay, it's someone, someone, some scientist said because of some lab studies that everybody needs to be taking 500 milligrams of magnesium every day, or they need to get get 500 milligrams of magnesium today per day. Now, sadly, we can't get enough minerals from the foods we eat anymore because the nutrient density just isn't there. You'd have to drink, eat too much volume to actually receive enough of the minerals. So you do need to get minerals into your body in another way. The problem is that if you think about it and you look at the whole list of 18 minerals and you, look at the, those supplemental facts in terms of RDAs and MDRs, you'd be like overwhelmed and lost and it wouldn't even work. I've spent time at the health food store, you know, talking to people who are buying, you know, pill bottles and they're like, yeah, my mother told me I need zinc and my sister told me I need calcium and my trainer told me I need magnesium and this person said I need selenium and this person said I need chromium and on and on. And they've got like all these pill bottles and I know they're going to just end up in the graveyard. Yeah. The supplement graveyard.
You know, speaking of graveyards, I, I cleaned out my supplement cabinet and probably like you, I get, I get so much stuff that just shows up in my, in my, on my porch and, you know, companies send me stuff to try and I like to try new things. So, you know, I might be part of the problem, but you know, I, I must have thrown out like hundreds of dollars or the supplements, most of them were expired cuz I never ended up using them. And I can say that your products will never end up in the garbage cuz we use them, right? We, we actually use them and benefit from them, which is awesome. The thing I want people to understand too is this simplifies things, right? And we're, we're kind of looking, you know, I hope as precision wellness practitioners, we're looking for simple solutions, not, You know, precision doesn't necessarily mean complex. It means you're doing what's right. And, you know, you and I both are huge fans of Mother Nature and the teachings that she has to offer us. And a lot of times it's in plain sight if we're willing to look for it. And, you know, the fact that the tree and all the plants and everything requires the same ratio as we do is part of a grander design, right? And again, simplicity, because if every animal and plant required its own unique you know, mineral signature, that would get really complicated. And again, this idea that you, that you highlighted about how our individual needs are so different. So we need something that replenishes us that's as dynamic as we are and as dynamic as our lifestyle is and can work with us, right? Synergistically instead of us forcing things to happen, this is allowing, you know, Mother Nature and its, you know, governing intelligence to do the work for us. So it, it simplifies things. It reduces, you know, imbalances creates, creates more balance in the body and it allows us to have a global benefit, right? As opposed to just benefiting one path, particular pathway or one particular organ. I'd rather people fix everything than just one thing. And I think— Given, given that as an option, most people would choose, let's fix everything. Instead of let's, let's try to create more imbalance and fix this one thing.
Yeah, it's, that's, it's so true. And, and, um, particularly for practitioners, it's hard because, you know, most practitioners know they need to get minerals into their clients, but getting them to take a handful of pills, you know, forever is, is almost impossible. But getting them to take a little glass of liquid that tastes like water every day, that's actually pretty easy, you know. Um, and I do want to offer to everybody that if anybody out there is interested in my book, I'm happy to send it to any practitioner. Um, because I really want you guys to get that shift of conceptual framework from, you know, the idea of dosage, which has to do with that I even know how much minerals of any particular mineral my body needs in this moment or today. In fact, I don't know. But guess what? If I provide all of the minerals in those natural ratios continually every single day, now my body has what it needs, when it needs it, where it needs it, how it needs it, 24/7.
Hmm.
That changes an ecosystem.
I, I like that. That already sounds, you know, my nervous system already feels calm knowing that, right? As a practitioner that it can, it can be this simple and we don't have to micromanage individual mineral levels. We can again use the force of nature to do the heavy lifting for us and eliminate the guesswork. And I guess consistency is the thing that's the most important. So if we can get people to do something that is as simple as just putting an ounce into their favorite beverage or just to a glass of water, then that's pretty easy to stay consistent with. And it's arguably more affordable too than having to do everything separately. So it lots, lots of upside benefit.
Yeah.
Are there any, any contraindications to taking humic or fulvic acid that people need to know about, like drug interactions or supplement interactions that are worth mentioning?
Yeah. So with Fulvic, there's really none. So Fulvic is just this incredible enhancer of nutrient uptake into cells. So it also does intercellular detox, but it, it doesn't create any Herx or any kind of detox responses. Humic, on the other, other hand, is a powerful binder. So for people who have mold, had mold exposure, people who have autoimmune, people who have Lyme, had Lyme disease or have Lyme, long COVID. These people generally have systems or MCAS. They tend to have people, I mean, they tend to be people who will Herx very easily or have detox symptoms. And the cool thing is there's a very simple answer and that is just slow introduction.
Mm-hmm.
And it's hard to do that with a pill. So, you know, we actually do have capsules for people who travel that, and it's basically the fundamental material that we use is called humate. It's a very rich, mineral-rich, black crystalline substance. And you can eat that and, and it's good for people, for athletes love it because it creates this, this baseline for people who travel. But we never recommend it for someone who's just first starting, especially if they're sensitive. But it's really easy. I mean, I'm, I'm drinking mine in a big glass of water. I probably have more than than normal than you would need. But, um, you just would start with maybe a quarter teaspoon in a glass of water. When you first do that for a few days, you have no symptoms, you add another quarter teaspoon, and you just keep adding until you get to the full amount, which for a person who's not super active, that would just be a half an ounce. So it's very easy to get people— I mean, I've, I've worked with tons of people over the years, probably, well, definitely over 100, um, over the years who, who called and were having some sort of detox response. Some of them were actually very excited because that meant they were actually detoxing, but they didn't want to have the symptoms. So we just slowed it down for them. And then over a period of— I mean, the longest was a woman. It took her like 3 months to actually move up to the full amount. She just kept dropping every time she'd feel a symptom. She just dropped back to the lower amount, go longer with that, and then try again. And then over time, she was able to just slowly because her system was overtoxified and it was just really excited to get rid of all that stuff, which was creating the symptoms. So, um, she just had to slow down the process, but it's an incredible binder for just general biowaste toxins like glyphosate. It's really the best remediator of glyphosate, incredible remediator of, um, heavy metals. um, biowaste, things like graphene oxide from vaccines, um, just viral detritus, all sorts of, um, senescent cells as a dead zombie cells. So fantastic, um, tool for detox. It also does something that's really cool. So let's say you took that pill of, of magnesium. Let's say you took some huge amount of magnesium, 1,000 milligrams or something, because you're an athlete, you think you gotta have that. And your body, if you have humic in there, your body, the, the humic molecule will actually recognize that there is a concentration of magnesium and it will bind to that magnesium all the way up until the point where it reaches balance and then it will slow and stop. And that in itself, that's why I call them effectors. Kiran Krishnan actually was the one who coined that term. Which is a really great term because they're really active. They're not just like— they're not passive molecules. They're actively affecting the pH and the concentration of elements in your cellular ecosystem.
Sounds like you're the best— your cell's best friends is what I'm sensing. I'm thinking of like the, the fulvic as the friend who comes to the party and has brings everything you need. He's got this like huge backpack where you go camping with him and he's got all the gadgets and the tools and he's got everything that he needs, right? In the right ratios. And, and then you have the cleanup crew, which is the humic that comes and cleans up the campsite afterwards. And of course, if there's a huge mess, there's gonna be a lot of garbage piled up. And, and we gotta kind of slow things down a little bit or, you know, adjust course. And it's as simple as that. So I wanna, I wanna talk about maybe how somebody can introduce, just from a beginner's perspective, let's say somebody's never taken humic and fulvic acid, maybe they're new to BEAM's product line. Where would one start?
Yeah.
What would the dosage be and how? Yeah. You know, walk us through that.
Well, one thing I want to mention also is in the book, I have a buyer's guide. Um, and it's a really good tool for, um, just helping people understand where would you start? Let's say you want humic and fulvic. You don't want to use Beaming Minerals. Of course, of course, I think it's the best, but, um, you know, you just, you want to try humic and fulvic. This will give you an idea of where lots of different directions, because there are other humic, um, substances. There's shilajit, there's peat. Um, there's some other substances in other parts of the world. South America and African continent. So you can find other ways to get humic and fulvic into you. As a, as a general protocol, if you were using Beam Minerals, which is liquid, you literally, again, as a, as a practitioner who's dealing with sensitive clients, meaning who have these sensitivities that I mentioned, you would have them start with the fulvic first. Okay. The beautiful thing about the Fulvic, and that's this green bottle, the electrolyze, it's a golden liquid, tastes like water. You can add it to a glass of water. And usually what I recommend is having somebody start with that first, especially if there's somebody who has a lot of chronic issues, because what it's doing is it's upleveling, upleveling the energy generation in the system by enhancing uptake of nutrients into the cell where the mitochondria are. Mm-hmm. Mitochondria can now generate more energy. So your wattage of what your, of what your body is producing may go from, you know, that very low 600 to 800. And that's when people start to go, wow, I don't have that energy crash in the afternoon, or I'm, I'm craving sugar less, or wow, I don't have any headaches, or wow, my cramping went away, you know, things like that. I had somebody who had a tic, an eye tic, and they their eye was constantly twitching. They had one drink of Fulvic and it stopped.
Mm-hmm.
Like within 15 minutes. He's like, I've had this for 3 weeks and it just stopped. So Fulvic is a great place to start with really anybody. And I usually suggest 10 days to 2 weeks for somebody who's sensitive. Then you're gonna start them with the humic product, which is our MicroBoost, and it's the dark one. Again, it tastes like water. So it looks scary because it's dark, but it also tastes like water. And for the sensitive people, you're just going to use what we call the slow introduction method. And in fact, if you scan the QR code on the back of the bottle, you'll get to a page where all of the information is there. And it literally gives your, your patients, just follow this. Um, it's really straightforward.
Okay. And then I sprayed this on before we got started. These are some InstaLites, and then actually I sprayed the Happy Lights on.
Yeah.
So maybe you can talk, talk us through those products as well.
Yeah. So the InstaLites, I have a big bottle. He has a, Sachin Patel has a small bottle. The InstaLites is freaking amazing. So remember when I said how small that molecule is, like compared to a cell? So the beautiful thing about InstaLytes is you can spray it on from the outside. This is like the ability to put minerals directly wherever you want them on your body. So, you know, I often actually, 'cause I spend a lot of time on the screens, I spray and I actually blink my eyes and let it go into my eyes because one rod or cone in my eye could have 40,000 mitochondria.
Wow.
So a lot of processing happening with visuals and people who spend a lot of time on the screen, their eyes do get tired. You can also use this incredibly well for menstrual cramps. You just spray it on from the outside. But if you take the minerals internally for 2 to 4 months, those menstrual cramps usually go away. So all cramping in the body is mineral deficiency. So if you tend to get leg cramps at night, you could spray the InstaLytes on before you go to bed. And then you won't get the cramp because you've already provided the minerals to those cells in those muscles. So they have the energy they need to tighten and then release. Um, our happy—
A lot of people have muscle tension, so it sounds like it would help with that too.
Oh, I'm telling you, you just wake up with a crick in your neck, or you come away from the gym going, ah, like that. You just spray it on. It truly is— this stuff is like We say it works like magic, but it's backed by science because it works because it actually is absorbing directly into your cells.
And it's not sticky or there's no residue or anything. I know, like, I've used magnesium oil before and, you know, it's actually water-based. They call it an oil, but it's water-based, but it gets like sticky and there's like this film on your body and it feels kind of gross. This has no residue and it just absorbs right away into your system.
And that's, you know, that's the sign of its absorbability is how smooth it leaves your skin afterwards. You know, that most of that, that film that's left on your body is because that magnesium actually, whatever it was in, at least did not, it didn't really absorb. You don't know how much it absorbs. And one of the things you have to recognize about a cramp or a tense muscle is it might not just be magnesium that that muscle needs. Again, you've got that, that all those cells need that full spectrum. It could be phosphorus, it could be an imbalance between sodium and potassium that's happening there. And then we have Happy Lights. Happy Lights is one of our favorite. It's InstaLights, but it has bergamot in it. So bergamot is an essential oil that strangely, most people when they smell bergamot, it triggers the release of endorphins. So this is an incredible way to change the neurotransmitter wash in your body within seconds, like 5 to 7 seconds. It's not long-acting, but for somebody who deals with panic or anxiety, depression, this breaks the cycle of the neurotransmitter wash that's causing that continual loop. It's— I mean, I keep it on my desk. I'm an entrepreneur. I have my moments. Just say, oh, that wasn't a great meeting, and spray some happy lights.
Hit the reset button.
Hit the reset. Exactly. Exactly.
One thing that when we're working with patients or clients who have, you know, chronic health issues or low voltage, right, they don't make a lot of stomach acid. And they say you need high amounts of stomach acid to absorb calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, B12, So talk me through how stomach acid levels, if at all, are impact, impact, you know, humic and fulvic absorption.
No, that's, and I haven't done, I actually, it would be really interesting. I should, you know, jump on and ask right now, but cuz I don't know off the top of my head, but I'll bet you without a doubt that there's minerals involved. And if you don't have enough stomach acid or digestive enzymes either, chances are that providing that full spectrum of minerals is the foundation. It's like, how do you support the creation? We know that there are things. What's the one you were telling me about that helps with stomach acid production?
Well, zinc definitely helps.
Thanks.
So, but there are other vitamins.
Yeah. I thought for some reason, I thought there was one that you had mentioned before, more of like a biohacking tool, but I can't think of what it is. I'm not well-versed in all of that. I'm just a mineral geek.
Well, bitters are another way to increase—
Bitters, right.
Like, yeah, liver function and stomach acid production and really just chewing, chewing our food helps increase stomach acid production as well. Getting more into that parasympathetic state.
Right. Literally triggering your body saying, hey, I'm going to eat now. Right. Giving you— I love the thing you said when we were recently together and you said, just wait until you start salivating to eat.
Simple, right?
So simple. That's, that's beautiful.
Now correct me if I'm wrong. When, when I first started learning functional medicine and physical exams, like functional physicals, we would do a blood pressure cuff test around the calf. And if you couldn't tolerate a, if you couldn't blow the, the cuff up over 120, like if you get, if it got over 120 and your leg started cramping, then that around your calf, that would be a sign of mineral deficiency.
Interesting.
And so I'm curious if, if there's any like physical exams or anything like that, that would be a really easy way for clinicians to, besides assuming or really knowing that everyone's deficient minerals, a lot of times our clients need some sort of evidence or proof. So if there's like a physical exam finding that could be helpful or a provocation that could be helpful, or even if there's a test, if that's even something that you would recommend that could help us identify mineral deficiencies. Because sometimes people just, they need evidence, right? They need some sort of proof that something is off balance.
No, it's so helpful to, to have some testing. I mean, I've talked with very experienced practitioners and I've asked them, how do you know if one of your prac, your patients is mineral deficient. They say they're, they're in my office. Um, so that's, you know, at a very fundamental level, we— it's true that we almost all are mineral deficient unless we're using something, um, to replenish minerals. Um, there are in, in the book, actually, there's a whole section on testing. So that's a great— you know, talks about all the different testing methods and provocation and not, and all of these different things. We don't have to go into all of There are two best ways to test your mineral levels if you want your patients to know. One is hair tissue mineral analysis. You would use your hair, you send it into a lab, and they tell you the consistency of your hair follicle or the end of your hair. The other is something called Oligoscan. And Oligoscan uses something called spectrophotometry. It's used in material science, very stable science. And it takes the data from shining a light into 4 places on your palms. You have to be physically where the practitioner is.
Mm-hmm.
And then it runs it through an algorithm and it gives you back, um, levels of all your beneficial minerals, your heavy metals, your electrolytes, your vitamin levels. It also gives you some readings about oxidative stress, so free radical load, and also some other things about how your body is detoxing relative to sulfur conjugation. So really, really great test. I personally think it's the best. Um, it's— but the problem is you do have to be physically where the person is. You get the results immediately and you get it emailed to you. So now you can take it to any practitioner. You can take that data to any practitioner and use The trick with testing around minerals is let's say you do a test and you find out you're low in magnesium and your sodium potassium levels are imbalanced and maybe you're high in zinc. So what are you gonna do about it? And as a practitioner, this is the, this is again, the conceptual framework shift because we think, okay, somebody's low in magnesium, I'm gonna give them magnesium. Mm-hmm. And they're high in zinc, I'm gonna tell 'em to stop taking zinc. And their sodium potassium levels are off. So I'm gonna tell them they need to take some salt-based electrolytes. Completely not the right thing to do because now you're gonna be playing whack-a-mole with their mineral levels. You see, because what you do see, recognize from that is they have a, a cellular ecosystem that's out of balance. Mm-hmm. That's a great thing to know. But the best thing to do would be to use something like humic and fulvic that are providing all the minerals they need in those natural ratios. Now the body in its incredibly innate and complex wisdom is going to have what it needs when it needs it, where it needs it, how it needs it. And it knows how to balance the minerals. Yeah. You will never know. Even the most smartest ChatGPT or Perplexity or whatever AI tool we could find will never be able to tell you what minerals and how much you should give to your clients at any given moment. It's, it's impossible because it's an extremely dynamic system.
Yeah. And you know what's, what's coming up for me as you're sharing that is if we do have deficiencies or excess, we don't wanna basically, or I, people can do whatever they want, but what I'm taking away from this is it's not, you know, chasing, playing whack-a-mole with the mineral and saying, oh, you don't have enough of this, so let's give you more. We just have to view it as you're minerally imbalanced.
Yeah.
And, and so the, in effect, the intervention doesn't really change, right? We're still gonna do the same thing. But for those people that need that validation, and wanna clinicians who wanna run the testing instead of playing whack-a-mole and saying, okay, you're low in this, let's give you more of it. The intervention is, hey, you're imbalanced in minerals, so let's give you balanced minerals, or let's give you something that has the, you know, kind of the innate wisdom to rebalance the minerals in your body in the right ratios.
And there certainly are things to learn from a mineral reading. Let's say an Oligoscan reading. You know, there are certain imbalances that show up when someone has parasites. There are certain deficiencies that show up when somebody has Candida. There are certain problems and imbalances and deficiencies that show up when somebody has heavy metals, you know, specific heavy metals. So my dream is actually to create a mineral replenishment course that would certify people so they'd be able to actually look at those tests and go, oh, Oh, we should look at parasites with you. Oh, we should look at Candida. Oh, we should look at heavy metals, you know. And it doesn't necessarily change that you would wanna provide that foundation of all the minerals because, you know, someone will come to our booth at a trade show and they'll do the AllegraScan and they'll be low in magnesium and their potassium sodium will be off. And what did we find out? What did they do? They take magnesium every day. They use salt-based electrolytes every day.
Mm-hmm.
So why Why is it out of balance? You see, why, why are they deficient? Because the body, the ecosystem isn't working properly. And right, best way to treat an ecosystem is with ecosystem tools.
So the, the Oligoscan can identify a pattern that can clue us in into, okay, here's where you wanna explore a little bit further.
Exactly.
And I think, I think that's, that's really, that's beautiful to have something so simple, right? That's non-invasive. That's reproducible, that people can utilize as a way to, to monitor their progress. Because the other thing too, like, you know, I like short feedback loops and even if you do, let's hypothetically say you do the most advanced blood screening or functional lab to identify mineral deficiencies, by the time you get the results back, that was just a snapshot in time and it might be reflective of what they had that morning or, you know, the stress they were under. As you said, these are dynamic things that are, that are changing. And if we're just looking at a few of them in isolation, we're not picking up patterns.
Mm-hmm.
And the patterns are really what we want to identify to help us explore a little bit further while we replenish the minerals because certainly if somebody has Candida, we wanna address that. And if what you're saying, their mineral imbalance can point us in that direction, that's a powerful tool.
Yeah. And you know, if you're, if you're testing blood or you're testing stool for micronutrients, it, it's truly only giving you an ambient reading. It's in where do minerals need to get to into the cells. And that's what something like a Ligascan does is it, it will tell you the intercellular reading. There are a few others that are coming out. I don't have any names for you, but I'm doing some research now to, to, 'cause there are some other intercellular diagnostic tools that are coming out.
Okay. Another question for you that's coming up just from a practicality standpoint, and it might come up for clinicians themselves or their patients. Are the minerals or the electrolyze or the humic acid temperature sensitive? So if I put them into coffee or something hot, Is that gonna impact it at all?
You're fine if you put 'em into your coffee or tea or whatever after you pour your cup. You don't wanna boil them in water. It's just, you just don't wanna bring it up to 212 Fahrenheit. Okay.
Okay. Perfect. And I guess the other question would be, do they need to be refrigerated after we open them or room temperature is fine?
As long as you're not drinking directly from the bottle, they do not need to be refrigerated. They are just minerals and water. And they've been tested for all, you know, microbiological stuff. We actually had a friend who bought a microscope and they put our minerals under the microscope cuz they wanted to see if there's anything in there. They, they're like, wow, your minerals are really sterile. That's cool. No bad uglies growing in our minerals.
Good to know. Good to know. Uh, so as we wrap up, Carolyn, I'd love to know, maybe you can share Let's, let's make sure we share how people can get a copy of the book. But also, I know you've done a lot of interviews and I just wanna make sure if there is a question that you wished I had asked you today that people need to know more about, then I'll kind of offer that to you. Cause I, cause sometimes I don't know what to ask because I don't know enough about the topic to know what I might not be asking you. So I wanna offer that back. I wanna offer the question up to you of what question did I not ask you that I should have asked you?
you know?
Do you wish more people asked you?
As usual with Precision, I think you've asked everything. I don't feel that we didn't get to something that was really important, especially if we want to focus for practitioners. I think this is really the trick with minerals is finding a way to get them into your patients in a way that's going to give them all the minerals in the balanced ways that they need to receive them and also in a way that's going to be easy for them. People are so overwhelmed right now with all the different supplements and stuff out there. And, you know, the coolest thing about minerals is that they are the first thing as a practitioner that you can start with, and they are the things that have— they are the thing that can have the most short-term impact, like get, get your clients and patients starting to feel better like very soon and they come back, they're like, wow, I feel better. And you're like, yes.
Yeah. Like turn the dimmer switch up, right? So they can start shining their light more.
Yeah.
I thought of a question.
Oh, good.
Because of obviously my interests, a lot of what I focus on is what's happening up here in the nose and in the mouth. I'm curious if it makes sense for people when they are drinking the minerals with, with the water to have the, like, swish it around in their mouth? Like, would that help their gum health or, you know, oral systemic absorption? And then swallow it? Any thoughts on that?
Yeah. So particularly fulvic, there's some studies that have been done on healing of the palate and, and tissues in the mouth. It's been done with animals, but it's you know, we have the same, same thing happening. So, and when I had my own periodontal disease, after 2 months of taking the minerals, I went to my dentist and she looked in my mouth and she was like amazed because for the first time, I'd been seeing her for a little over a year, for the first time my tissues, instead of being red and inflamed and bleeding, they were pink and healthy. And she's like, what in the world happened? You know? Mm-hmm. And it was literally just from taking the minerals and I would swish them around in my mouth at night, right before I lay down. So that was the last thing that were working on my tissues. Incredible for periodontal. If you have any kind of mouth or even wound, you know, if you had some surgery, it's fantastic. I'm telling you, don't use mouthwash, use InstaLites or spray it in or use electrolyze, just a shot of electrolyze. Yeah.
Electrolyze. Absolutely. Okay. And just, just for clarification, would you use it at the full dosage or would you dilute it? And is it necessary to dilute it?
Do not, you do not need to dilute, particularly the electrolyze. You never need to dilute it. No, just straight. You can dilute it if you want to throw it in your water bottle just to take it with you on your day. That's a great thing. This is also really good for any sinus discomfort. I, I had an incredible allergy season this year. I, I don't even think of myself as having allergies, but I have been just so, um, have had so many allergies with scratchy eyes and stuff. I just spray it in and I get relief probably for about 45 minutes, but then I have to spray it again. But hey, that's, that's a really nice relief period.
I'm going to put them in my nasal mister.
Oh yeah.
Yeah. As a, as a nice way to kind of rinse the sinuses and replenish them as well.
We had a woman who had nasal polyps all her life, and her husband loved to bake bread, and he would bake it every Sunday. He baked bread, and she started using the Insulites and just breathing it in, spraying it in. She did it many times a day. She just carried it around with her. And one Sunday he was baking bread, and she's like, "Ah, I can smell your bread." Hmm. So it, it re— it actually affected whatever was happening with her polyps. So, you know, again, that's anecdotal. I'm not saying it's going to heal you, but I'm saying that it's going to absolutely support the cells in that local area.
Yeah. And, you know, with, um, with the last few years, as you know, many people have lost their sense of smell and that, which means they can't taste their food either. And if this is something as simple as this replenishing kind of the mineral content of their sinus cavity, if you will, or supporting the cells in their sinus cavity could be helpful. And, you know, of course our olfactory nerve is the, is the shortest nerve and we have direct access to it through our sinuses. So that could be a great way to support people and it makes sense to me that it would be helpful.
Absolutely. Now, if you're a person who has oversense of smell like I do, then be careful.
So, Caroline, tell us, where can people learn more about BEAM, uh, and where can they get access to the book?
Yeah, um, if, if, uh, if you're a practitioner out there and you're interested in getting the book, I would love to send that to you. And you can contact me at hello@carolineallen.com. Hello @carolineallen.com. Just let us know you're a practitioner and, and, um, we'll get a book out to you. Love to do that. If you're interested in Beam Minerals, we do have a practitioner program and you can contact us at info@beamminerals.com and we will get you connected up. We'll make sure and get a set of minerals to you so that you can try them. We never ask any practitioner to, to use our minerals in their practice unless they have had their own personal experience with them. So we'll get you connected up with our amazing practitioner team. And then if you just want to try them yourself, you can of course go to beamminerals.com. If you want to just learn more about the book, you can also go to mineralresetbook.com.
Wonderful.
So many different connections, and we can of course put those in the show notes.
Well, it's a reflection of how much you want to support us and the different ways in which you can support us. So thank you. Thank you for doing this. Thank you for spending time with me today. Thank you for all the wonderful work that you do, the beautiful energy that you bring, and the joy that you bring. And thank you for sharing your story. I'm glad that you were able to turn, you know, that mess, so to speak, into your message. And, you know, for as long as I've known you, this is something that's so near and dear to your heart. So I love that you're so intimately passionate about bringing this to even more people.
Thank you so much. It, it really, it truly is what I'm here to do.
Well, thank you so, so much, folks. I'll put the links in the show notes so that way, in case you didn't write them down, you're able to just click on it and get to exactly where you need to. We'll put Carolyn's email address in there. We'll put a link to where you can connect with her team., and also where you can make sure you try the minerals for yourself. And, and if you wanna certainly share them with your patients and clients or loved ones, then I know that they'll be happy that you did because of the tremendous benefits that you learned about today. Carolyn, is there, aside from the book, do you have a podcast yourself? You know, people can go further down the rabbit hole. Is that something you're working on? I'm curious.
I am working on putting a podcast together, or at least some sort of ongoing process. I may not call it a podcast. There's a lot of those out there, but some sort of way of keeping in contact with people. I'm also doing a series called a Mineral Reset Program starting May 30th. That is a great way for people to connect with the community and also So get connected directly with me. I'm also always looking to go and talk to groups. If anyone out there has a community or a Facebook group or is connected with some sort of organization that would benefit from information about minerals, I am absolutely willing to come to you or get online with you. I, I really want to support people. Thank you. In providing incredible value to their audiences and their communities about minerals because it's just such, so misunderstood. So please reach out to me. We also love to collaborate around events and providing Be Minerals for people's events. Love to do that. So there's tons of ways that we can collaborate.
Amazing. Amazing. Thank you. And I'm going to certainly keep that in mind and pass that message along to my my fellow podcasters and those who have YouTube channels so we can help spread this message even further and wider.
Thank you so much, Sachin.
Thank you very much.
