3 dimensional Communication on Social Media for Ritu

Ritu learns a three-part social media strategy: daily visibility through information and promotion, credibility through leadership positioning, and personality through personal stories and candid photos. The speaker uses Jane Anderson's Facebook practice as a model and recommends banking a library of on-the-run images to humanize your content without relying on selfies.

This was very, very quickly what I wanted to talk to you in relation to social media posts, etc., and having a 3-dimensional communication model as opposed to the 1-dimensional. Now, the way we explain this is most people do a lot of general visibility. Hey, I've got this event coming up, or hey, I spoke at this event, or hey, blah blah blah. So it's a little bit one way. So, it's very informationally driven and very promotionally driven. What we need to do is actually have a mix of all 3 so we increase the influence level, and this is where the model behind that we spoke of also comes into play, and that's got that full spectrum thinking process on it as well with the education and the awareness. Let me just go back to this one. So just going back to the 3-dimensional communication model, to increase your influence, it's very much about having daily visibility, which is information and promotion, but also having some credibility in there as well, so some positioning, so that leadership, using the sense-making formula, which is that full-spectrum thinking, and making the information very, very relevant, which you demonstrate very, very strongly already. And then it's the personality stuff. This is the bit that most people struggle with. Jane Anderson does this really, really well on Facebook, so she's very good at having a look at. This is a little bit— this challenges me because I don't like doing selfies and I find them a little bit crass. But for me, the way that I add personality in is to— I talk about the lessons that Rory's— that Rory and I, or the conversations Rory and I have had, or the lessons that you learn out of the mouths of babes, or the lessons you learn from looking at nature or animals and those sorts of things. So that is very much personality-driven. And people describe me as fun and fast, and I'm a little bit cheeky. So I demonstrate my personal personality through through the things that I share on social media as it relates to those things. That just helps build trust and transparency because you do show up as being very, very human. On the run, an example of that that I see Jane do and I do and you can certainly do as well is when you're heading to the airport, an airport shot, because that's saying you're doing something on the run, you're sharing what you're doing, obviously it builds your visibility and your credibility because you say you're heading to do a speaking gig or you're heading overseas or, you know, to talk about something. So those on-the-runs of you dragging your suitcase, of you doing some note-taking or creating content while you're having coffee at a cafe or sitting outside for me and writing or doing some unpacking of some unconscious competence, which is what I talk to my community about. They're all things that I tend to do on the weekend, but all those on-the-run photographs are things that you can actually stage and create, set apart a couple of hours on a weekend or on a day and actually take a whole series of those so you just bank them into your library. And that's something I've done, and you'll see that Jane's social media tiles on Facebook, she's done that very, very well, so I can explain and show you more of that later. But just wanted to talk to you about instead of having that one-way communication, here I am, here I am promotion and just general information, it's about making your content and information very relevant, very on topic, and also demonstrating some of that beautiful personality and some of the things that make you who you are in that very human manner, which obviously I've seen in some of the videos and material that I've watched already. So I hope that helps a little bit more. Thanks, Sally.
