CLIENT 101 - JUMP ON THEM

A ferret named Dolly would ambush the speaker's husband Andrew after his shower, then do a victory dance. The speaker turns this into business advice: if you see a client, jump on them until they scream and celebrate.

Andrew was my husband at the time and not an animal lover, maybe a tolerator, and ferrets will play to this just like the horses did. And the fun would start like this. Dolly would be hiding down the back of the house, waiting for Andrew to come home from work. And his normal routine was to jump in the shower after a hard day. And as soon as Dolly heard one of those taps turn on, she'd appear in the hallway, her little ears twitching, listening, waiting, waiting for that second tap to be turned on in the shower. And she'd race down to the bedroom. And in the bedroom, we had walk-in robes with sliding doors, and she'd get hold of that sliding door and she'd jimmy it open just enough, and then she'd back herself in and she'd sit there and she'd wait, staring at the ensuite door, ready. And Andrew would come out of the ensuite wrapped in his towel, and Dolly would leap, mouth open, fangs out, and claws hissing very loudly, and land at crotch height. Andrew would swear like a trooper and scream, total acknowledgement that this was in actual fact fun, and Dolly would celebrate her successes with the ferret war dance. Just like that. Ferrets do celebrate exceptionally well. They are expressive, joyous, and they just love life. So Dolly's philosophy was this: if you see a client, jump on them until they scream and celebrate Celebrate your wins.
