Who knew Ferrets could be fun?

After decades with horses, a lifelong animal lover sold everything and bought a ferret named Dolly. A childhood book called The Strange Story of Slim the Stoat planted the seed. Now she watches Dolly steal keys, bite playfully, and curl up like spaghetti with her.

Fun with ferrets. I am an animal lover, a whisperer if you will. I've had all sorts of pets and I have lots and lots of stories. Horses definitely were my passion from a very, very young age, and I started riding lessons at just the age of 4. And falling off into a very large, deep, cold, muddy puddle did not deter me. And I went on to buy my first horse at the age of 13. Fast forward several horses and adult life later, the passion had turned into a serious, competitive, uptight obsession of dressage, shows, and racing. Long hours, hard work, repetitive daily tasks, super competitive, and lots of expense. Lots and lots of money, but shh, don't say expense too loud, my ex-husband still might hear. I wanted more fun in life and I was done with hard work. And for those that know me well know that I take huge leaps of faith, which is a direct response to the major stuff-it moment just before the transformation. Serendipitously, I sold my horses, the horse float, and all the gear, and everything was gone in just 2 weeks. And I bought a ferret. Dolly. Now I can hear your brains ticking about how do you go from the elegance of dressage horses and racehorses to ferrets? Well, that too started when I was just 4 years of age when I was given a book at Christmas, The Strange Story of Slim the Stoat. It's a true nature story. It's a little bit outside the box. Cute fluffy bunnies were teasing Slim. And the closing sentence of the book reads, the plump cheeky rabbit who was teasing Slim before the snow had come never did see the black tip on his tail as he danced among the trees towards him. Hmm, thought Slim as he ate his bunny breakfast, I'm glad the snow has come. So yes, reading about a stoat eating a fluffy bunny, and I thought, hell, why not? Ferrets could be fun, and they are fun, although they do bite and even drop sting bombs at times. However, they are joyous, curious, incredibly agile, loyal to a fault, very, very naughty as they'll often steal keys and wallets, and they love nothing more than curling up like spaghetti with their friends or even their humans.
