If you're trying to build a habit, be it any good habit— reading every day, exercising, playing an instrument— remember one simple mantra: don't break the chain twice in a row. As far as possible, don't break the chain. Even if you read just 2 pages every day or exercise for just 20 minutes in the morning, do it for less time, no problem, but practice the art of showing up. Once you start showing up each day, then you will be able to perfect that habit. You have to standardize a habit before you can optimize it. And missing one day is understandable. We all have emergencies, days when we don't feel well, days when our family needs us. But try your level best to never miss 2 days in a row. Because missing once is an accident, but missing twice is the beginning of a new habit— the habit of not doing it. This is one powerful learning that I recently came across and I've been trying to practice in my own life.
