Why is it that some people eat mountains of food and still stay thin, while others eat so little and still gain weight? Why is it that some people love the AC, whereas others just can't tolerate the cold? Why does some people's skin break out after eating just 2 mangoes, while others eat anything and their skin still glows? Well, these things are not random. According to ancient Ayurvedic wisdom, each of us has a unique body type, and it secretly controls almost everything about you— how you look, how you sleep, how you work, and even the diseases you're most likely to face. Your body type was decided even before you were born, right in your mother's womb, and it stays with you till the day you die. In this video, you will discover what your unique body type is through through a fun quiz, and after that, I'll share with you how you can tweak your food and lifestyle to suit your unique body type so you can live not just healthier but longer and with more joy than ever before. Before we start the quiz, let's just take a few seconds to understand what these body types even are so that the results will make more sense to you. You see, our ancient sciences share that Everything in this universe is made up of the 5 great elements: earth, water, fire, air, and space. Whether it's a plant, a chair, your t-shirt, or even the phone that you're currently holding, is all made of these 5 ingredients. But here's the fascinating part. These 5 elements are not just outside of you, they are also inside you. In your body, all solid structures, Bones, flesh, skin are made of the earth element. All fluids— your saliva, urine, blood, sweat— are the water element. The heat that keeps you warm, that transforms your food into smaller molecules, that's the fire element. The life-giving breath that you're inhaling and exhaling even right now, that's the air element. And the various empty spaces in your body— in your arteries, in your intestines, in your nasal passages— That's the space element. You have all 5 elements inside you. That's what your physical body is made of. But are these 5 elements all in equal proportion? Well, no. In each person, their balance is different, and that is where things get very interesting. When air and space elements dominate in someone's body, they are called a Vata body type. Vata people are just like the wind, fast-moving, both in their body and thoughts. When fire and water elements dominate, they are called a Pitta body type. Pitta people are just like the fire— fierce, hot, intense, ambitious, and can even get angry easily. When water and earth dominate, they are called a Kapha body type. Kapha people are just like the earth— stable, heavy, grounded, and calm. Both physically and emotionally. This unique mix of elements within you is called your body type or your prakriti. So in the next six minutes, I'll ask you fifteen questions. Each question will have three options: A, B, or C. Each letter represents one of the 3— Vata, Pitta, or Kapha— which by the way are also called doshas. You might see a mix of all 3 letters in your list, and that's completely normal because actually all of us have all 3 doshas within us. The letter that you selected the most, that reveals your primary dosha, the one that dominates inside you, and has the strongest impact. The letter you selected second most, that reveals your secondary dosha. If this sounds a little confusing, please don't worry. In just a few moments, it will all become very crystal clear. Let's understand which dosha these 3 letters represent. If you got mostly A's, you are primarily a Vata body type. Vata is the energy of wind and space, and just like the wind, you're full of movement. lightness and change. Just like the wind cools whatever it lands on and dries whatever it touches, similarly your nature too is cool and dry. You easily feel cold and your skin gets dry if you don't take care of it. Your body being light is also very quick and agile. You move fast, you speak fast, sometimes even faster than the world can keep up. And it's not just your body, your mind also thinks fast. That's why it's so easy for you to learn something very quickly. You can shift from one idea to the next effortlessly, which makes you quite adaptable. You can thrive in new environments, new roles, new situations. Amongst all the 3 body types, Vatas are also the most drawn towards higher states of awareness, to spirituality, philosophy, And deep introspection. Oh, and about money, you don't usually hoard. You love spending it as fast as you earn it. But here's the thing, when this Vata becomes too much inside of you, when it aggravates, it turns into a whirlwind. Physically, you may become overly thin, struggling to gain weight no matter what you do. Mentally, your mind can start racing too much, hopping from one thought to the other, erratic, indecisive, quickly changing. You may become fidgety, even restless, unable to sit still. So to keep your Vata in control, you need elements opposite of yours. What are they? Earth and water, which are grounding and nourishing. Your best friend is Snehan, which means oiling both inside and outside. Inside by eating foods which naturally have more oil in them, like Nuts and fats, and outside by regularly oiling yourself through self-massage. You need food that is grounding, lubricating, and slightly dense and heavy— vegetables like pumpkin, sweet potato. If you only eat light salads and dry snacks, it will only aggravate your Vata further. And when it comes to movement, avoid super intense cardio. Instead, choose yoga, slow strength training practices that help you build stability. Instead of more airiness. Now, if you got mostly Bs, you are a Pitta. The firecracker, the go-getter, the born leader. Just like fire, you are intense, hot, and almost impossible to ignore. The planner, the achiever, the one who doesn't just dream but who transforms those dreams into reality. You thrive on structure, you love to-do lists, deadlines, you love to lead. And good enough—that's not in your dictionary. You chase perfection, sometimes a little too hard. But dear Pita, your fire, if not balanced, can turn into a wildfire. Physically, you may start feeling acidity, rashes, acne on your skin, even have high blood pressure. Mentally, you may find yourself snapping at people in anger, losing patience over small things, wanting to control and dominate. Everyone around you. Even your inner voice can turn harsh, becoming overly critical of yourself and of others. Your best friend is the cool. To keep the inner fire in check, you need to load up on foods and drinks that are cooling in nature, that are hydrating in nature, like melons, apples, pears, coconut, cherries. Like cooling vegetables such as cucumbers, ash gourd, ridge gourd. Sip on coconut water. Or if you want to have teas, make them with cooling herbs like mint, fennel, rose petals. Ironically though, what you will crave the most will be spicy food with lots of masala, which will completely put your Pitta out of balance. So spicy curries, fiery masalas, oily foods, pickles, too many nuts, which are all heaty in nature, you should reduce as far as possible. Now, if you got mostly Seas, Then welcome to the beautiful world of Kapha. You are like the earth— stable, calm, deeply grounded. Physically, you are likely to have a strong, well-built frame, big expressive eyes, thick lashes, lustrous beautiful hair. You radiate a certain softness, a warmth which makes people around you feel very safe. You might think a lot before starting something new, but when you commit, You go all in and you make sure it's done. Doing things slightly slow but very steadily is actually your superpower. In a world that's always racing, you rarely make impulsive decisions. You really think everything through. Oh, and yes, you have the memory of an elephant. Once you learn something, you remember it for a long time, unlike a Vata who learns fast and forgets fast. If we're at a train station and there's a slight delay in the train, a Vata will continuously keep walking around the platform, jittery, restless. A Pitta might get frustrated and curse the system. And a Kapha, they might be stretched out on a bench, calm as ever, maybe even catching a quick nap. But dear Kapha, if your Kapha increases too much, you gain weight too fast, your digestion becomes Slow and sluggish. And after meals, you feel like sinking into a comfortable sofa, but with your mind all foggy. The most important advice for you: don't get stuck in stillness, neither physically nor mentally. Movement is your best medicine. Simple stretches will not cut it for you. You need intensity. You need to sweat. You need to run, jump, dance, sprint, whatever it takes. I'm not sure I can do all that. Whatever gets your heart pumping faster. Among all the body types, you need activity the most. Also, you'll be the most drawn to heavy, dense comfort foods— chocolates, pastries, nut butters, cheese, rich grain-based dishes. But those are your worst enemies. What you need is food that's light— fruits like pomegranate, papaya, apples, oranges, berries, water-rich vegetables like Vatala guard ridge guards youkini over sweet dense ones. Unlike for pittas, spices are actually good for you. They help cut the kapha. So you can generously use spices like ginger, black pepper, turmeric, mustard seeds, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, green chilli, and pepper in your meals. Alright, so by now do you recognize yourself? Are you able to relate to anyone very clearly? Or do you feel like you are torn between two? If you do, don't worry, that's normal. Most of us are actually a dual dosha type. This is when two doshas dominate us, but one is stronger than the other. For example, if you got eight A's, five B's, two C's, it means you're a Vata Pitta body type. Similarly, you can be any of these. My body type, for example, happens to be a Kapha Pitta. Now, on the other hand, if you have more than 70% of one dosha, in other words, if you have more than, let's say, 10 out of 15 pointing to one letter from this quiz, you are a single dosha type. This means you are a pure Vata, pure Kapha, or pure Pitta. This is quite rare. For example, Harsh happens to be a pure Vata. Now, did any of you get all 3 letters almost Equal? Well, it means you're a tridosha. This is the rarest body type amongst all. Now that you have clarity on your body type, I have an important question for you. Would it make sense if a rose wished it smelled like a jasmine flower? Or if a magnificent elephant wished he was lean like a giraffe? It would be utterly ridiculous, right? But this is is exactly what we do every single day. She has such thin body, why don't I? He has such big eyes and lustrous hair, why don't I? We forget that Mother Nature has blessed us each with a special blueprint which is perfect and so beautiful in its own way. The moment we stop comparing and start embracing it, that is where true joy begins. So what is your body type? Comment below and let's see which one dominates our Satvic family. We've created 3 special videos, one for each dosha. In these videos, you will discover what is the ideal meal plan to follow, what are those activities which are great for other body types but totally wreak havoc on your individual type.
