Episode 3: Boost Your Health Podcast: 28-Day Growth Challenge for Entrepreneurs
27 Feb 2024 · 12 min
Episode 3 of the Healthy Profits podcast (hosts Sammy Taggett and a co-host) presents a 28-day growth challenge designed to gamify launching or relaunching a health podcast. The episode emphasizes consistent effort, playful competition or teamwork (point scoring for episodes and social posts), batching content to stay ahead, and keeping podcasting fun to sustain long-term growth. Practical mechanics (e.g., points for recording and promotion, weekly/ monthly rewards, co-host scoreboard) and a personal batching anecdote illustrate the approach.

Hello. Hello everyone. Welcome back to another episode. Today we're going to be talking about how to boost your health podcast with a 28 day growth challenge for entrepreneurs. We're going to be talking about how to gamify your podcast launch and how to make it so much fun that it's actually hard for you to stay away from working on this. Okay? So as someone who has had a podcast for over five years, I understand the flows and the strategies and the difficulties that comes with putting out a podcast and especially putting out one that is consistent. And when you are launching, when you are relaunching, you really want to be putting your best effort forward that you are going to be doing, doing this podcast every day. Okay, let's redo this. Not every day, but you're going to be thinking about it every day. You're going to be pouring your heart and soul into it every day. You're going to be recording and being on top of it. So at least submitting your podcast and releasing it once a week. Okay? So that's the kind of energy and attention that goes into a podcast that is going to be on this fast track to success. So I know you might think, wow, that's crazy every day. But I gotta tell you, if you are excited about a new project, aren't you thinking about it, aren't you talking about it? You're in the energy of it. And I do believe that energy will help push you forward as difficult difficulties and challenges come up. So there are so many things I could tell you about how to boost your health podcast, of course, and we go into so many strategies in this podcast itself and all the different episodes we have. I could talk to you about talking to your ideal client. I can talk to you about ads, I could talk to you about strategies on storytelling. There's so many pieces, but today I really want to focus on the fun, the playful energy as entrepreneurs, but also as artists. Sammy and I have really realized that if we are not having fun while working on a section or a part of our business, then it does fall behind. Behind or it also has this contracted energy. And so whenever we do something that just isn't feeling as fun, it just tends to be more of a downer. And podcasting is a long game. This is a journey that you need to really put that consistent energy and effort into and really see it out for its worth. You can't just do it for a month and see what happens and then say, oh, well, I didn't get the listeners I want. It truly is a long game, so you need to have that continued energy to be excited and pouring back into this podcast. So another thing is, I know that you're not only doing this because you want to grow your audience, you want to attract more ideal clients, you want to make an impact. Yes, all of those are probably true as health entrepreneurs. But I also know that you're probably doing your podcast because you love it, because you enjoy talking, you enjoy storytelling, you enjoy even being on camera. Right? If you didn't, you'd probably be struggling a bit, so you probably enjoy it. And again, I say this, I know the ins and outs of the difficulties that come up everywhere, from getting frustrated to looking at your numbers, feeling defeated to feeling on a tight schedule, feeling like there's not enough time in the day. I have so many other things I need to be focusing on into tech difficulties. There are so many other things you could be focusing on, and yet here you are, pouring your time and energy into something, and then the tech is giving you issues, right? I've been there, I've recorded multiple episodes, and they don't work or forgotten to plug in the microphone or all these little things that even the people, the clients that we're working with, that have huge businesses, huge companies, huge impact and brand presence still do. So let's all take a deep inhale and exhale just to release any of those tendencies around perfectionism and expectation.
Ah.
And let's get into the play of what a podcast can be, because truly, you should be having fun with this. You should be having fun with the podcast. And it should be the thing in your company, in your business that you are most excited about, because this is the thing that people are going to feel from you. They're going to hear it in your tone of voice. They may see it in your video, in your face as you're promoting it. They're going to really pick up on that. And let's be real, everyone remembers the teacher in high school or college that hated their job and would just sit the front of the room teaching from a place of, I have to do this to be here to make money. And this is all I know. And I hate this. I hate the students. I hate what I'm teaching. And it's almost this feeling of just being recited to now in those classes, what were you doing? Were you really excited about that? Subject or the work that you were doing? Probably not. Same thing goes here. This is actually a form of entertainment. The cool thing is we can merge it with education and turn it into this edutainment sort of experience for our listeners. And as health entrepreneurs, you're not just making a podcast to just tell a story. You're also here to change lives. Your life probably got changed first, right? I don't know many people that are in the health space that didn't go through their own health journey first. So even though that may have been years ago, and that feeling of achievement, of overcoming, may not be right on the tip of your tongue, this is the time when you're recording your podcast, when you are releasing your podcast, and in this creation, this is the time where you get to come back into that experience and remember the journey that you've been on. The way that Sami and I like to do this growth experiment and have fun while we're doing it is we like to create a game around it. So I'm going to tell you the game that we do, and of course, we invite you to join us along with this game. If you end up joining us, let us know how you're doing, let us know what your scores are we want to see, and we're happy to be a part of this journey with you. So here's how we do it. We assign points to the different episodes that we record and then points to social media promotion that we do as well. So, for instance, five points can be for every episode recorded. Two points are for an Instagram post, a standard post, Three points are for a real or a live. So gives us these points. And since we are co hosting, I think you guys kind of get the gist of Sammy and I, but we love a little healthy competition, so we choose to actually go against each other in this. So at the beginning of the week, we choose to reward whoever gets the most points at the end of the week. So we choose what that reward is going to be at the beginning of the week before we know who has the upper hand in this, who's ahead of it. And then by the end of the week, we check our scores, we have a scoreboard that we keep together, and then we get to see who won. And of course, loser gives the winner the reward. It is pretty fun. Another way we like to do this is also join forces. Of course, Sami and I, we like a little healthy competition and all that, but we also know that we are on each other's team, and so we also have A rule where at the end of the month, we tally up all of our points together, and at the beginning of the month, we choose a number. We choose the number of points that we want to hit as a team together. So it doesn't matter who rallies in the points, but it's really about doing it together, right? And so if we hit that goal by the end of month, then we have a special bonus reward that, you know is really exciting. And this can change month to month. This is just an idea. This is something that we do. You can, of course, create your own game around this, but especially if you are going to be launching. One thing that we always suggest to our clients and a thing that really creates a lot of ease and flow in the production is to also batch record. And that can be challenging, it can be time consuming, it can feel like a lot, honestly, to figure out what the episodes are, sit down, be in the studio for a while, set everything up. But it truly is the best way to do it when you're doing a podcast. And so when you are in the launch, this becomes even more important to really put your effort and energy into it at the front end. When I did get pregnant and was going through my journey of birthing Rafa, my podcast was something that I love to do and set up. And I knew that there was going to be a time where I wasn't going to be able to record podcasts. So I really had to look ahead and batch ahead in a pretty aggressive way because I wanted to take months off of recording, but I didn't want to take months off of the show. And this works so well because not only was the show continuing to be released weekly, but also all of our monetization efforts that were locked into the show as well were creating revenue streams. That's where things can get really fun. It is a bit of a set it and forget it. So perhaps you're going into a launch or a relaunch and maybe you're looking at your next quarter. Maybe there's a different focus you want to have in your business at a certain time period, but you have a little space now. Can you gamify it and see how many episodes you can batch beforehand and then send off to your team or whoever is producing your podcast and let them do the work and drip it out. Here's some ideas for you to be able to play around with. How to really boost your health podcast and boost it not only in streams and downloads and all of that, but boost it for yourself, boost the morale Boost the energy that you have around it. And trust me when I say this, your listeners will feel this and they will get excited and they'll want to keep tuning in. So are you up for the challenge? Are you going to join us? Set yourself up for success and better yet, grab a podcast partner. This can be a co host, but it doesn't happen to be. It could be someone else that you know that also has a podcast and create that little healthy competition that can really drive you forward. And it's always easier also when you have someone in the game with you. So not only the competition, but also someone to be there with you as you go through the ups and downs. Look, you're not going to hit your goal markings every single week, and that's okay. That's not what it's about, but it's about continuously pouring into the journey. And if you can have someone along for the ride, it always is better. So that's all for now. Let us know how this goes and we will talk to you soon.
