How to Close 40% More Roofing Jobs (Without Buying More Leads)

Adam Sand outlines how roofing companies close 40% more jobs by replacing generic auto-responses with a personalized sequence: human-crafted initial contact, job-walk videos with quotes, inside-sales calls within 10 minutes of the visit, and CEO thank-yous. Speed and personal touches beat automation.

Most roofing companies think they need more leads to grow, but in reality, they're leaking money after the lead comes in. In this video, I'll show you the exact process above-average roofing companies use to create confidence, close more deals, and keep customers happy after the sale.
So if you do these things consistently and do it faster than your competition, you're going to see the revenue go up. So yes, there is your initial lead response. Now, a lot of people want an automatic text reminder or some kind of automatic text response that goes out when a lead fills out a form or an automatic email. The problem is anybody can go buy an $80 tool off the shelf and get something that will do an automated lead response, which means that it's no longer something that makes you stand out. It's just the bare minimum. And so the customer does not feel like they've moved any further towards solving their problem because they got an automatic text message that says, hey, thanks so much for your interest in filling out the form. What time are you available? It's going to sound like every other person that they inquire with. They want talk to someone who can demonstrate competence and give them a feeling of confidence that they found the right roofer. Other one is the appointment booking, right? Getting that appointment booked and then a confirmation of that appointment. Then the 5 minutes away notification— when you're 5 minutes or half a mile away, letting them know that you're almost there. This is big. Then the job walk video— walked around the job site and shown the homeowner what's going on. I did this in every single roof sale I ever did. I always did a ground video, a roof video, and if the homeowner wasn't home, I would send them the quote with a presentation video, like a Loom video, doing virtual sales. It took me about 3 minutes per video, so it added on like 9, 10 minutes to every estimate. But during COVID when we couldn't meet people face to face, this was already such a part of our behavior that we killed it during COVID And I actually flew around the country teaching other people how to do this. So the job walk video, super powerful touch to add to your process. Then presentation, right? You got to present your findings to the customer. That's an obvious touch that everybody's probably already doing. Then you have your post-inspection follow-up call from your inside sales. So we talk a lot about inside-outside sales. That call 10 minutes after the outside sales leads where the inside sales just communicates with the, with the customer and checks in on the experience is another important touch that more consistently causes sales to happen. And then that 24-hour sales follow-up. So the important thing is that when we do this, the customer is going to wonder, do you care about me as much after I sign than before? So as important it is to get the deal, it's more important to keep the deal happy. And so here's the touches that you can do to keep the deal happy, which is the automatic thank you email from the CEO on job signature. So they're gonna get some kind of confirmation usually from SumoQuote or Leap or whatever you're using to sign a deal. But if there's a personal email that comes from the CEO that just says, "Hey, thank you so much. If you have any issues, I would love, you know, to address those things personally," it makes the customer feel like, "Okay, I have the nuclear option if I want it. I'm gonna talk to the person that he put in front of me, but should it get to that, I know I can call the owner." And you know who also knows that? Your people. So that thank you automatic email from the CEO is big. Then there's a job sold confirmation call from the sales manager. That's a great touch where the sales manager says, hey, we got your deal. Sales guy's got it, gonna put it into me. I'm gonna get it reviewed and get it off to production. 'Cause if you wanna make people happy, you gotta tell 'em what you're gonna do, do what you said you were gonna do, tell them why you did it, and tell 'em what's next, right? And if you do that, you have that constant loop. They're just gonna always know what's going on. They're never stuck in no man's land. No customer should ever end up in no man's land. Then once you do have the sales manager review the job file and then they hand off to production, and this can be an automated email that just says, hey, thank you so much, I'm the production manager, I've received your file, we're going to get you on the schedule, I got to do a bunch of things, the next step is I'm going to be doing a job schedule call with you once I've, you know, confirmed that I can get the material, blah blah blah. Then it's like, okay, I'm ready to schedule your deal, your roof, we're probably gonna do you in the third week of April, it's weather dependent, but that gives you a rough idea as to when we're coming. Great. When we're 2 weeks out, I'll give you another call. So if you're booked up 6, 8 weeks, then 2 weeks out you have another touch, right? Now you can automate this as well because it's like when the install date is less than 14 days away, send this email, send this text message. This is another really good touch because it lets them know, hey, weather dependent still, it could rain the day before you're getting your roof done, but we're about 2 weeks out. Then the day before install call. So it's like, okay, I've confirmed it's not raining tomorrow, yes, we're coming. And that could also be a day before install email and text message. But you do want to call, you want the email and text message because yes, not everybody picks up their phone all the time. Now this is where the above average stop. Everything that we're doing here, if you're doing all this, you're above average, and in RBP land, above average is average.
