Adam Sand outlines three goals for RBP's internal hackathon: merge the Foundation Projects team (which acquires roofing companies and deploys AI/robotics) with a consulting firm so technical staff work directly with field operators. Create a startup-style environment where people build from scratch instead of handling routine tickets. Mine HubSpot data from phone calls, emails, and meetings to find new revenue-producing products using AI.

How would we run this hackathon? One of the first things that we always ask at RBP is like, what problem are you trying to solve? And the main things that I was going for was I have these 2 teams. I have Foundation Projects, this company that's buying roofing companies and deploying AI and robotics. And then I have this consulting firm that helps roofing companies grow. So I have these 2 teams. One of the big goals was to get all the fancy pants over here on this team to start to integrate with the Clydesdales of hardworking, intelligent operators that are on this side. So I wanted to create an opportunity for those 2 teams to meld together. The other thing that I wanted it to be was like an audition for what it was like to work in a startup. Like, instead of being coin-operated people that solve tickets and problems for roofing companies, what happens when you have a blank slate and you're going to code something from scratch, right? Because based on an idea or a problem that you're trying to solve. And so I really wanted to create that environment. And then the kind of the third thing was we wanted to create some revenue-generating products. We wanted to say, how could we come out with some things, some new revenue-generating ideas at RBP based on the fact that we have all of these AI tools at our disposal? We've tracked every phone call, every email, every ticket, every interaction, every meeting, every webinar, every Loom video. In HubSpot, we should be able to mine this for some revenue-generating ideas. So those are the 3 pillars of what we are trying to do.
