What did Dr. Tony Evans do?

In this sermon‑style YouTube commentary, the speaker addresses the recent news that Dr. Tony Evans has stepped down from his pastoral duties after a "secret sin" from years ago was revealed. Emphasizing that the only confirmed facts are Evans' own statement and his church’s announcement, the speaker condemns any speculation, gossip, or character assassination surrounding the situation, labeling such behavior as unbiblical and spiritually dangerous. He urges believers to practice "righteous judgment" by first seeking the Holy Spirit’s perspective, listening before speaking, and avoiding the role of the devil’s accuser. The talk expands to a broader theological point: God may remind believers of hidden past sins to prompt repentance, regardless of how long ago they occurred. Using Evans’ humility as an example, the speaker calls for a ripple effect in the body of Christ—leaders and laypeople alike should examine their own hidden sins, repent, and return to a first‑love devotion to God. The overall message is a warning against slander, a reminder of the spiritual cost of gossip, and an invitation to embrace repentance and humility.

Hey y'all, I think it's super important to have this conversation right here on my YouTube, and I normally never make videos about hot topics and things that are happening, but, um, I'm noticing a pattern, and whenever I notice a pattern, I know that it's something that God wants me to address. In the past few years, there's been a lot happening in the body of Christ. There's been exposure, there's been pastors who've stepped down, there's been pastors who've been fired from their job, pastors being caught up, leaders in the body of Christ in general, um, from the worship sector to leadership as a pastor, a bishop, all of that stuff. We're not naive to all of the drama and the chaos and the controversy that is happening surrounding the body of Christ in this hour. However, as as a body, we collectively have an issue with judging things with righteous judgment. And one of the things that I noticed, and really what is sparking this conversation, is just how the body—not the world—but people in the body are handling the decision that Dr. Tony Evans made to step down from his pastoral duties due to. Secret sin that happened years ago. Now, here are the facts. We only know what he has said and what the statement that was issued out from the church. We only know those things. So speculating, gossiping, starting rumors, or even insinuating that he had inappropriate relationships with minors and all of these other things is just absolutely disgusting, and it's absolutely unnecessary, and it's 100% uncalled for because you don't know that man, you don't know his business. And even if God revealed to you that that's what it is, it is not your responsibility to now come online and, and tell everybody those things, especially given the person that Dr. Tony Evans is. He's been in ministry for almost 50 years and does not have a rapport of ever being abusive, teaching false doctrine. No one can come and just say Well, Dr. Tony Evans is a part of the problem, and he is a false teacher, a false pastor. The whole family honestly is anointed and called of God to do what it is that they have done. But I want to bring to you a revelation that God revealed to me about this, and I really hope that it helps you to one judge things righteously and to ask the Holy Spirit about things before you give commentary on anything. And I understand that sometimes people get caught up in especially. Here in the body of Christ, Christian influencers get caught up on addressing hot topics because it will get you a stupid view here on YouTube. But if you got the view and you did it by compromising and being in wrong standing with God, who cares about your views anyway? That, that's all I gotta say about that part. But one of the things I've made it a habit of mine to do is to always seek God before I respond About any matter or to anyone about anything. And that's a discipline that we all should have. We should be quick to listen and slow to speak, because when you are so quick to speak, you will put your mouth on people, you'll gossip about them, you'll get caught up in character assassination. And the Bible tells us to have nothing to do with these kinds of people. Okay, just want to make it clear on what the scriptures say. You can argue with God about that. Not me. Okay, so one of the habits I've developed and really just become very strengthened in lately is making sure that I seek God before I say anything or address any matter that is happening in the body of Christ, because I want to make sure I have God's perspective. It matters to have God's perception and his perspective on everything. It just matters. It's a make or break over here in the kingdom with that. Okay, but one of the things I decided, I'm gonna, you know, have God's perspective. And one of the things that the Holy Spirit revealed to me is sometimes God, in all of his mercy— for years you will be teaching the Bible, prophesying, preaching the gospel, doing all of these wonderful things in God's kingdom to further advance the kingdom, and none of that is wrong. But sometimes God will spin the block as you get older and remind you of things that you did in years past that were still a sin against him. And Dr. Tony Evans is a man of God. And why we should be careful about how we navigate this is because even in his sin, he was still integral enough that when God spoke to him in his later years and said, hey, you sinned against me, He still decided, you know what, I'm gonna do the right thing and follow the process that— and the standard that I hold everybody else to, I'm gonna follow it. Because God brought it back to my remembrance that years ago I also sinned against God and I didn't exercise righteous judgment. So I'm gonna do the right thing. Now here's the thing, he could have decided when God revealed it to him to just be like, oh, whatever, that was years ago, God ain't gonna hold it against me. And that right there is where a lot of leaders are in the body of Christ, where God is knocking on the door of their hearts and he's saying, hey, you need to repent for this because years ago you sowed this seed and you now need to repent. If you want to advance and go further in life and you really want to inherit the kingdom, I'm going to spin a block and remind you that at 12, at 13, at 17, at 18, at 25, you did these things that were a sin against me. And here's the thing, just like in the book of Revelation when God tells the church, he's like, I love that you give to the poor, I love that you do these things, but I have this one thing against you. And I believe that for Dr. Tony Evans, that was the case, is that now what is happening is he's reached a seasoned age in God. He's been around for a long time. He's not new to the gospel, he's not new to the Bible. He teaches the Bible in a very, uh, integral way. He's honest about what the scripture says, and he teaches it according to how it should be taught in context. And so because we lack the idea or the concept of righteous judgment, we quick to put our mouth on people and call them frauds and say that they were always a false pastor, but they weren't. Sometimes God really does, in all of his mercy, Because you're going throughout life, you will forget that you did things at 20. You'll forget things that you did at 21. You'll forget things that you did at 18. And God will, in all of his mercy, before your life ends, remind you that, hey, at 18 years old you did this and it was a sin, so I need you to repent. And I think it says a lot about your character if you choose to repent. And so we really need to be careful about what we say about people who are in right standing with God, because though he committed the sin years ago, he's still a man of God. He still belongs to God. He's still a child of God. His family are— his family, right, that is also being used by God, they are still children of God. And so if you are now taking on the face of the accuser of the brethren because that's how God sees it, By coming on YouTube and gossiping, slandering, starting rumors, saying that stuff about somebody, and just demanding that someone gives you an explanation for something that God already told them what to do about it and it's been done— I mean, just like, you are literally partnering with the devil to do the very thing that you pray you supposed to be praying against. The enemy is the accuser of the brethren. And when you join in by gossiping, slandering, assassinating someone's character, you're joining in with the accuser of the brethren. You're taking on his nature and his face, and that's how God sees it. That's how God sees it. So you can have your personal opinions, but at the end of the day, God's word still stands. God tells us not to have anything to do with gossipers, slanderers, character assassins, anything of that nature, to have nothing to do with them. But you all think— and whoever this needs to reach is where it's going to reach— you all think that because you're coming on here reporting things and then you're gossiping with people in comment threads and all of this stuff, you're, you're literally speculating about something you have no intel about. And I'm so tired of the body of Christ getting in and just to the— into this space of when we don't have nothing to talk about We go and we make up things to talk about because that's what we're— that's what the body's doing right now with Dr. Tony Evans. We don't have no, no evidence, no, no, no tabloids, no nothing. All we know is that he repented for secret sin and now, uh, he's going through a process of healing and recovery, and he did the integral thing. That's all we know. And my thing is, why isn't that good enough for us to know? You want me to tell you why it's not good enough? Because the internet, especially with the body of Christ, has trained you to know such intimate details about everyone's life. You don't need to know everybody's life in intimate details. I think it says a lot about your character if you feel like when you have sinned against God, you got to tell people everything. The Bible says in Proverbs that discretion will save your life. So I think it is amazing that we don't have anything to speculate about, because if you are speculating, that means you are clearly being seen as a gossiper and as a slanderer, because there— you don't have any information. And so we really need to be careful about what we say about people who are in right standing with God, because you're coming against God when you speak about them, not the person. You're coming against God, who is their Father. who is sovereign. And you don't want to be found or labeled in the realm of the spirit as a gossiper, as a slanderer, as a person who assassinates people's character. You don't want to be seen as that by God because the consequences are deadly. They really are. The wages of that is still those same wages as sin because that's what it is. You don't want to be seen as that. And so we really need to make sure that we seek God before we share. before we come on here making commentary. You don't have anything to speculate about. And the other thing is, I think it is so integral that he made the decision that he did. And I pray that his decision produces a ripple effect in the body of Christ and causes other leaders who for years are being silent about the sin that they're doing— some of them don't even feel convicted about the sin— I pray that this births A ripple effect in the kingdom among those of us who are leaders and even those of us who are just common people in, in, in the body, where we will all be so inspired to be like, you know what, I've had this hidden sin in my life, where we will look at ourselves and be like, God, is there any hidden sin that I committed years ago that was a sin against you? Bring it to my remembrance, God. Because we don't all the time remember what we did when we were younger. And sometimes God, in all of his mercy, because he cares that we are holy in every area, he will spin that block. And when he does, he will bring things to your remembrance that you did when you were 12, 13, when you were 15, when you were 18, because he still wants to be reconciled with you. And so I think that how we should be viewing this is, man, like, a man of his, of his notoriety in a community and in the body chose to, after all these years, instead of keeping it a secret and moving on and being prideful and just being like, well, that was years ago, God forgives me, he ain't gonna hold it against me, he chose to humble himself and repent. And that's the lesson we need to learn out of this. Humble ourselves and repent, even if the sin was years ago. And praying and asking God, bring it back to my remembrance, whatever I did in my younger years that I forgot about. Bring it back to my remembrance so that I can repent and be in right standing with you. God is calling his body back to their first love, and you only return there when you repent.
