When Insecurity Offends God: Why He Chose You | Exodus 4:13-14

Moses keeps telling God he's not qualified for the job, and God gets angry. The speaker argues that God answers doubt with two things: authority and presence. When God calls you, He's not making a mistake about who you are.

Did you know that you can get to such a deep place in insecurity where God will grow angry with you? And I know we live in a culture that glorifies insecurity as well as glorifying self-reliance, but one of the things I came across in Exodus chapter 4, verse 13— and we all know the story, but I'll give you a little summary. So God and Moses are going back and forth because Moses is doubting that he will be able to do the thing that God called him to do. He's feeling insecure, he's feeling weak, he feels like he can't accomplish what God called him to do. So in Exodus chapter 4, verse 13, Moses says to God, but he said, oh my Lord, please send someone else. And the very next verse says Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and he said, is there not Aaron your brother the Levite? I know that he can speak well. Behold, he is not coming out to meet you, and when he sees you, he will be glad in his heart. So here it is, God commands and gives Moses instructions and orders that this is what he's called him to do. And Moses keeps responding to God with insecurity. He keeps telling God that he's not qualified, that he is scared, that he is fearful. And the Bible says that anger rose up in the heart of God against Moses because of his response to God. Instead of obeying the Lord and trusting that it was God who sent him, he decided to respond in his heart with insecurity. And so each time throughout chapter 4 on to chapter 5, God responds to Moses's insecurity, one, with authority, and then he responds to his insecurity with presence. So over and over, every single time that Moses began to doubt that God could use him, God will respond with authority. He would tell him, is this— am I not the one who opens mouths and closes mouths? And here it is, Moses is doubting whether his speech is secure enough to do the job. And how many times in our life when God is calling us to do something, we scared because we don't have a large following, or we're scared because people don't accept us, or we're scared because of our past, or we're scared because it just seems like nothing is going to work out if I step out here and do it. I'm not qualified. I didn't go to school. All of the reasons we try to give God. And God felt like Moses— what Moses was saying was an insult, and it made God angry. And so we have to start really making sure that when we read scripture that we see ourselves and see the sin that is in our own heart, because Moses was wrestling with unbelief. He didn't want to believe that God was really talking to him and sending him to do the thing. That's why he always kept questioning. Well, God, I'm not qualified. Well, God, can't you send someone else? And God is like, if I wanted to send someone else, I would be talking to someone else. And God is saying that very same thing to some of you in this season. If he wanted to send someone else, he would have sent someone else, but he's sending you. He chose you. He's calling you out. And so right now in this hour, we all have a responsibility to be doing the thing that God Called us to do. Not watering it down, not asking God to send someone else. If God wanted to send someone else, he wouldn't be talking to you. He wouldn't have chosen you. He wouldn't have asked you to do it if he didn't think that you were capable. If God, who is God, like, he's not like man that he is a liar. He doesn't miscalculate. He knows exactly what he put in you, and he knows that you are capable. Each and every time when Moses doubted whether God's choice was the right choice, God responded to him with authority. God responded to him with his presence. And so whenever God calls you to do something, his authority is going with you. What did he tell Moses? Tell them that I am, that I am is the one who sent you. You're not coming in your own name. You're not being sent in your own name. You're being sent In the name of the one who created you, right? So God responded to Moses's insecurity with authority and with his presence. And so those are the 2 things you need to go and do whatever God called you to do. You need his authority and you need his presence. Nothing else is required. If God wanted to choose someone else, he wouldn't be speaking to you. If God thought someone else was qualified to do the thing that he called you to do, He wouldn't have come to you and asked you to do it because God doesn't choose the wrong people. God doesn't select the wrong people. If God wanted to choose someone else, he would have chosen someone else, but he chose you. So get out here and go on with the authority of the Lord and with the presence of God. That's all you need. Get out here and do it. I pray this video was a blessing to you.
