Robert Scoble's iPhone Demos from the Jetset Extra Launch Party

Robert Scoble and Robert Scoville discuss San Francisco's culture, food, and travel apps at the Jetset Extra launch party. They share personal recommendations and tech insights in a casual, on-location conversation from April 2010.
Tweeting.
Tweeting about his interview. I'm including your photo. Well, this is what I love about technology. So.
Robert. Yeah.
Thanks for coming, baby.
Thanks. This is.
Oh, we just dropped the iPhone.
That's right. Okay, so it's like, my fifth one.
Okay, baby, tell me about what you love about the city. Three things about San Francisco.
You love culture.
Culture.
Technology.
Oh, technology.
This is the home of it all. Yeah, right? Twitter's here. Everybody's here.
And I live here, too.
Food.
Oh, yeah, food. Favorite restaurant.
Oh, man, that's too hard.
Okay, one of your favorites.
I can't even pick one. In and out. Oh, you can't?
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Okay, we know you love sushi.
There's so many sushi places. But the best sushi place is actually. Okay, tell us about that Sushi Ron.
Okay, Sushi Ron.
Best sushi restaurant in the world. And they actually won iron Sushi Chef Award. I mean, that place is crazy. Very expensive. It's only for very special occasions. You know, unless you're rich. You know.
Twitter or Facebook or Google.
Or Yahoo, they take sushi to another level. Sushi there is hard.
It's sushi 2.0.
Sushi. Sushi 4.0.
Oh, 4.0.
It's way beyond 2.0 over there.
Okay, so besides sushi, what do people have to do when they come to San Francisco?
Well, the stereotypical stuff. Go and eat a crab dish on Fisherman's Wharf. Go to see Golden Gate Bridge. Go. And, you know, walk up the Coit Tower. Go. And, you know, shop at Macy's in Union Square. You know, all the stereotypical stuff. I mean, you got to do that, right? Then once you've done that, then let's talk.
I've already done it. Well, tell me about a secret about San Francisco. Something that, you know. You know, maybe not necessarily about the city of San Francisco, about surrounding areas, because I know you live in a place that's not San Francisco.
Well, most. Most people who visit here, I mean, living here, we never get to the tourist spot. So we actually. We actually like it when tourists come and we have to go to Alcatraz and Fisherman's Wharf. We never go and hang out. That's not where we. Me and you would hang out. I would say walk around the neighborhoods. Walk around, you know, north beach and enjoy the sights and smells. Chinat. I love Chinatown. I love just walking around and taking pictures of all the stands and people and just sitting on a street corner, just watching it all go by and watching Watching that. You just said you're filming. You know, some things that are cheap, that are really interesting. The cable car museum.
Yeah, I love the cable car. It's really loud. We got to warn people. It's really loud, but it's really cool.
Yeah, because that's how it works. And there's a lot of earthquake history and early San Francisco history there. You know, if you can get over to the Ferry Building and just, you know, just do a walk. I love taking the train into the city, you know, and then walking down Embarcadero, which is like a. I don't know, a seven mile walk. It's a long walk, but if it's a sunny day, it's beautiful. It's all along the waterfront. You stop and you take pictures and you have a caf. You know, a cafe Action North Beach. Yeah. Well, if you get that far and once you're in the city, everything walkable or taxable, right? So you just get a taxi and you say, hey, I want to go check out something new. Open up Yelp and go and look, find something new. Go open up Foursquare.
Okay, Foursquare, that's. I was gonna ask technology for travel. What's a good technology for travel?
Well, TripIt, you know, TripIt, you email your plane ticket to TripIt and it builds a site for you, an experience for you, and tells you do you have good airplane seats? And it'll warn you if you have the pro version. It even warns you if the plane is late and gives you all sorts of rebook capabilities or schedules. It's really awesome. I use Foursquare because if you check in where you are and it's early, but. So not every city works, right? But like, if you check in, in Paris, there's all these tips that all these people who use Foursquare have left for you.
See, that's great.
And so I found the best French bakery right around the corner from where I was staying. I would never have searched for the best French bakery on Yelp or on Google or whatever. And I would never have found that on my own. Just walking around, I would have walked right by it. I wouldn't have known, right, that that was the bakery that is the best in Paris. But somebody said, you know, you're in. Somebody said. Somebody said, if you're in this neighborhood, you got to go there, right? And so Foursquare is a good place for that. Gowalla is a competitor of Foursquare. They have little trips. So I was just in Austin at South by Southwest, and They have a trip of all the barbecue places in Austin.
Awesome.
And so you. You go on the eight barbecue places in Austin. You ch in at each place, and after you visit all eight, now you're an expert at Austin barbecue, right? And it. It gives you a little reward, you know, but it's a really great way right now. I saw one for San Francisco on Goal. Let me show it to you.
Okay, let's look.
You know, and of course, you need a good photo app to take photos and remember all that stuff. But here we have, you know, like, San Francisco's best coffee, Right? So if you're a coffee fiend. Sorry, if you're. If you're a coffee fiend. There. San Francisco's best coffee. There we go. It shows you where on the Google map it is, and it gives you four places as soon as the AT&T answers. So here's Ritual Coffee, Blue Bottle, Four Barrel Coffee, and Spy Glass. So if you're really into coffee and you are visiting here in San Francisco and you want to visit some great coffee restaurants, this tells you where they all are. And you just go around, and when you go there, you check in and then you get a little reward. Right.
Who would have known?
Yeah.
This is awesome.
Yeah. Thank you.
