A short motivational talk by Scott Duffy using the "crabs in a bucket" anecdote (fishing for crabs) to argue that people who limit themselves or others will pull down those trying to rise. Duffy urges listeners to remove unsupportive people from their environment and surround themselves with those who support their vision, ending with a direct call-to-action to visit scottduffy.com.

Hi, my name is Scott Duffy, and today I want to talk to you about something I think is probably the most important lesson that all of us need to learn, and that is the power of having the right people around us. You know, a few years ago, I had the chance to go fishing on the east coast, and we were fishing for crabs. And there's a funny thing. You know, when you're out there on a boat and you're fishing for crabs, like, you'll take the crabs that you catch, and you typically throw them in a bucket. And the thing about crabs is you'll get all these crabs in the bucket, and they're all trying. When they're in it, they're all trying to get out. They're all reaching for the lip so they can somehow get over that bucket and they can run to their safe and they can jump back in the water. So the question is, if you want to walk to the other side of the boat, do you have to put a lid over that bucket of crabs? And the answer is no. And the reason is this. As soon as one crab shows some initiative, as soon as one crab becomes a leader and they get their claw over and they start to pull, pull themselves out of their environment, all of the other crabs reach for that one's legs and they pull them back down. In fact, they're so aggressive that they'll chew their legs off. So the thing is this. I have a question. How many people live in your day? How many people are in your environment that are pulling you down? How many people are out there that maybe aren't giving you the support that you need on your vision? I'm telling you this. People around you that have limited visions of themselves cannot have a bigger vision for you. So today, here's your job. Get rid of all those crabs, throw them out, and realize this. They're nothing more than your lunch. This is Scott Duffy. For more, go to scottduffy.com. have an awesome day.
