Philip and Melissa Niu, former college athletes, explain how daily exercise helps them manage the demands of running a business and raising a family. A CEO Scott Duffy knows treats his workout as his top priority each day.
Today, Philip and Melissa, new from Parachute, talk about the importance of physical fitness in entrepreneurship.
Fitness is huge for Melissa and I. We're both former college athletes. She got a full ride to Washington State for women's volleyball, me for football at Brigham Young University. And it's been drilled into us since we were young. Take care of yourself. Push yourself. So our daughters naturally grow up. Seeing Melissa and I are taking time out of our day. Obviously, we've got a million things to do, but we always take time out to take care of our bodies. Otherwise, what good are we to them or to anybody else if we can't function?
I was at a conference on Necker Island. I was on my way home, and I saw the CEO of Virgin Atlantic, an icon in the business. He'd been in it for over 20 years. And I walked up to him and I said, I have a question. I just want to ask one thing. What is the number one thing you've got to do today? Because I want to learn. And I thought it was going to be something like team building or morale building or business planning or raising money. And his answer was exercise.
