EP 434 – The Million Pound Mission with Adam Schaeuble
10 May 2019 · 47 min
Scott Carson talks with Adam Shively, founder of the Million Pound Mission, about losing over 100 pounds and building a community-based fitness program in Bloomington, Indiana. Shively explains how entrepreneurs can balance business growth with personal health through consistency and strategic thinking.
Foreign. This is the no Closers show where you get the latest developments in distressed note investing and learn the secrets of how you can control millions of dollars worth of property for pennies on the dollar. Get educated and entertained by someone who has closed thousands of deals and lives to support you in achieving the same. Now, here's your host, CEO of We Close notes, Scott Carson. Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, everybody. Welcome to this episode of the Nut Closer Show. I'm Scott Carson. Excited to be here today. Even more jacked up to have our good buddy, the PhD, the man, the myth, the legend behind the million pound mention. And casting the pod, our buddy, Adam Trobelbun. Good morning, Adam. How's it going, man?
Thanks, Scott. Man, I'm fired up. You're a guy that you may be the only podcaster that I found so far that matches my energy. So I'm really psyched to attempt to break the Internet here today.
Yeah, we're doing something a little bit different here. We've got it going live streaming on Facebook like we usually do here at the no Closer Show. We've also live streaming to Instagram Live with Adam and me both live there. So if you're watching on Instagram, awesome. Obviously, our podcasters will be listening to this on iTunes. Stitchers. Plus, we're also going live here. This episode will be airing across the United States across 16 different AM FM radio stations as well. So our big listeners, their note nation is getting a little bit wider this morning, which is good, but we don't want to go too wide personally. We want to bring it down and get the skinny on this. So, Adam, why don't you do yourself a favor and share Everybody who the PhD is here that we're talking about this.
Yeah. Well, first off, hello, not nation. My name is Adam Shively, the PhD, the previously heavy dude. I am known as that because about 12 years ago, I ended up at a spot where I weighed 327 pounds and I ended up going on a personal journey where I lost over a hundred pounds. And then as that started to happen, my hometown, people started to, I'm in Bloomington, Indiana by the way, and people started asking me like, what I was doing, how could I help them? And I started helping other people. I eventually formed a little boot camp program and over that five year period, as I lost my hundred pounds, I helped my Hometown lose over £35,000. So that was a huge, huge deal. Eventually led to the Million Pound Mission podcast. We started helping people online, doing online boot camps, online coaching programs, and now we are doing a goal of a million pounds with the podcast. We're tracking it. People that go to millionpoundmission.com they hear, like, if you hear something today and you implement something, you get fired up and you lose five pounds. Then go to millionpoundmission.com, donate the weight loss, and that way it just goes right up on the board. And we're approaching £55,000, Scott, so it's very exciting.
That's awesome, man. That is so cool that you're doing that. And that's one of the big things that I love. Your energy obviously rocks out. Just a great guy. You've got a lot of big heart for helping people really overcome some obstacles, not only on the fitness side, but also on the marketing side as well out there. And you had me on as a guest of your podcast a while back. We also were co new media summit, icons of influence and stuff like that. We hung out at PodFest as well. That's one of the things I love. There's a lot of synergy in the podcasting family out there. There's so much great energy with people and people really working to overcome obstacles, not only if they're trying to get a podcast rocking, but also like what you're doing. Million pound movement. And I'm a PhD guy. I'm a big guy. I've always been a big guy, too. You know what I mean? You know, you and I walk in a room. Oh, watch out.
Look out. No open buffet today.
That's exactly right. But one of the things I wanted to bring you on today, talk about we've done this in the past is I think we deal with so many entrepreneurs who are busy, and we've got such a great family across the United States with our Note Nation family, that I think a lot of people end up taking their health for granted as they put in the back burner while they're doing the Hustle, you know, while they're trying to build their empire, get things rocking and rolling. I think that's one of the biggest mistakes people can make. You want to talk a little about kind of. You got a big energy for trying to help entrepreneurs overcome that too, don't you?
Oh, yeah. And that's something that it's a huge deal as entrepreneurs. The Hustle is put on a pedestal right now. But it took me five years to lose a hundred pounds. But that was 12 years ago that that journey happened. So I've been at my current body weight for seven years now. During that time frame, I'VE worked myself into the hospital three times. Scott.
Whoa.
So I'd already lost the weight. I was already a healthy guy. I was the guy that was helping other people get healthy. But my business was exploding and I was one of those people. It's almost like stacking pancakes on a plate. Like all of a sudden the they're so high and you can't balance it and they all fall off. And I had anxiety. I wasn't sleeping, I was passing out and hitting my head on stuff, giving myself concussions, end up in the hospital three times before I got wise to the fact that, okay, I need to fill up my cup. Also, because if I'm not around, I can't help anybody. If I'm not around, I can't make money. If I'm not around, I can't build my brand or build my business. And that was. I wish I would have had the wake up call on the first time I went to the hospital. But the third time, that was like my wife told me, she's like, if you do this again, you have to completely quit what you're doing as a business. And I made her that promise. So we made some huge adjustments and now I invest in me. The lifestyle that I live is totally different. And I'm just, I'm a lot more efficient. Efficiency isn't looked at. A lot of times people say you just gotta go. More opportunities, more live casts, more podcasts, more everything, more speaking events. Build your brand and eventually something has to give on the back. And hopefully it's not your body, hopefully it's not your life. That's the decision I had to make.
Very similar kind of decision like that made a couple years ago. I was traveling, speaking, traveling across the country, looking at assets, talking with banks and conventions, and I just stopped taking care. I like to make the joke. I put on 50 pounds extra over five years and it was all sponsored by Crown Royal and ribeyes. All right, she brain a USDA prime Crown Royal. Okay. But the, you know, we get so, you know, tied down. We get so busy trying to do everything. We like to push off our helders and wealth a lot of times and it's, you gotta take care of yourself, otherwise you won't be around. Especially if you're the, you're the linchpin and making so many things run or you've got a family, things like that. And Stephanie's like, okay, you need to go see a sleep. You, you've got sleep apnea. You're sitting here like passing out every 10 minutes at the end of the day, you snore horribly. You don't sleep, you know, you're not sleeping good. And I'm like, oh, no, I'm fine, I'm fine, I'm fine. I finally went and saw somebody and they came like, oh, yeah, you have one of the worst cases of sleep apnea we've ever seen. I'm like, okay. They're like, we stopped the sleep study, the sleep study short because we were afraid you're gonna die. Oh, my God. I'm like, okay, I need to get serious about this.
Yeah.
And that's led to, like, making changes or just prioritizing things.
Yep. 100.
I think that's, you know, I got my trainer coming here in an hour at the office, and we work out three to four, sometimes five days a week here for an hour on different things. I, you know, I've cut out almost all the red meat in my diet. Eating a lot of fish, you know, being. I won't say vegan for the most part, but I'm doing a lot more of cutting out meat and stuff like that to. To be focused up. But my energy level is through the roof already. It always has been. But the minute I actually started using that, my, you know, starting to sleep with sleep, I mean, it's like the next morning up I woke up, I was like, oh, my gosh. I have been a walking zombie for three years.
Energy. Yeah. Yeah.
And as the weight's dropping off and the muscles coming on, my bouncing around here. So I was walking down in San Diego a couple weeks ago for the traffic and conversion summit, and some guy came up to me and tapped me on the shoulder as we walked in the hotel together. He's like, hey, did you used to play in the NFL? I'm like, thank you, but no, because, well, you're a big guy, but you can tell you can move. You're like bouncing around here in the last two and a half blocks. I started laughing and I was like, well, I'm pretty serious about my health and things like that. It's not, it didn't go on overnight. It's not coming off overnight, but because, I don't know, keep doing whatever you're doing. You can tell differently because you're not walking, like, hunched over.
That's awesome.
A lot of the guys I work with, but you probably see a lot of that with your gym and the million pound mention going on, don't you?
Yeah. And like, you said, the mindset that I'm hoping to help instigate out there across the world is that this isn't a sprint situation where, like you said, it's a marathon. It took me five years to lose a hundred pounds because I just made gradual changes. I made lifestyle changes. I wasn't doing a 20 day challenge. I wasn't doing a 90 day challenge. Like, I'm gonna get fired up for 90 days. Guys are especially prone to that mistake of I'm doing P90X. I call it transformation light switch syndrome. Scott, we flip that light switch on. We are on. We lose £50 in 90 days and sue, that challenge ends, light switch off, and we go back to what we were doing before. We need that next challenge, we need that next bet that we make or whatever. I had a client that came to me, he's like, I need your help. I made a $5,000 bet that I'm gonna lose 20 pounds in the next month. I'm like, all right, when do you wanna get started? I'm like, here's the link. Never even filled out the link. She's paid $5,000. So that whole mindset of the quick fix, the quick, the hacks are big right now. My programs aren't sexy because I'm like, let's take a while to figure this out. Let's do nutrition, let's sweat, let's think about what screws us up and fix that. And let's do that consistently over time. And you're gonna be in full control. You're gonna have your hands back on the steering wheel and reclaim control of your health. But that's not the market of I've got a brand new diet, I've got a brand new shiny exercise program. I'm like, yeah, you know, we can. I basically, I say I can take somebody from any nutrition style, any fitness style, and we just implement habits and structure this around their lifestyle and we make it work long term. And that's the key that, to breaking that cycle of weight loss and regain that so many people struggle with.
Yeah, that's so glad you said that because that's, you know, we all like a competition. You know, It's a challenge 90 day here. Who doesn't like that? But it all. I think people get into the gym like, I'm going to give it all, and then the next day they can't crawl out of bed. Right. It's the gradual transition. They start building those habits. And, you know, whether it's maybe not, you don't have an hour out of each day, but maybe you got 10 minutes to walk Around a block. Right. Or you know, maybe cut your portion size down a little bit. Just start doing little simple things to help you out with that. Right. It's just so. It's so critical to the self control though, right?
Yeah. And it's okay to do a challenge. It's okay. Like I'm going to start doing these 7 day habit launch challenges which are going to be fun. There's actually going to be a financial penalty if you don't complete each day of the challenge. Like you're going to put a credit card down. It doesn't cost any to get in, but it's five bucks a day that you don't complete your mission for each day. So that'll be fun. But that's the ignition switch. It's not the whole why. Like, the why has to be built after you ignite that passion. And so why do you want to lose 20 pounds or why do you want to lose 50 pounds or why do you want to get in better shape? Why do you want to lower your blood pressure? And then that why has to be bigger than all the why nots. It's like with any goal. Like if your goal is to retire with a multimillion dollar passive income in the real estate industry. Okay, what's the why behind that? Because all those why nots are going to show up. And when they show up, the why has to be bigger than the why not so you don't accomplish that goal. And that's just simple math.
That is such true stuff there, bud. I love that the why nots will.
Show up on a daily basis. They will, they will. We all know that as entrepreneurs, like, yeah, I was gonna work all day, but my cat threw up all over the rug. And then my kids sick home from school and you know, it's a snow day or whatever. Like all that stuff happens all the time. And we keep waiting for perfect. And there's a podcast I listen to called the Minimalist. They say something called this can be day one where you can wait for one day. It's one day or day one, your choice. And the key is not waiting for perfect to change your life, to change your business, to change your destiny. It's make today day one and just do the best that you can. We can't be at our best. We can still do our best. And that's the way I focus on everything that I do.
That's smart thinking, man. That is smart thinking with little things. Now, what are some of the tools that you use to do there? Anything, any Entrepreneur hacks that you're using with what you're doing to help you stay on track. What were some of the biggest things that you did over your five years of working to get back on track and remove the PhD?
Yeah, well, from like a business side of things, from an entrepreneurial side of things. Like as I built my business, I've always focused on community and connection. And those two things, like that's what I'm good at. If I, I'm an implementer. Those are the three superpowers I have. I'm good at building community, I'm good at connecting with people and I'm good at connecting people. And then I implement like nobody's business. I'm not one of those guys that, you know, I've been at a couple events over the last couple of months. I'm not one of those guys that just takes notes and then lets them just sit. I'm doing that thing the next day. If I'm on fire about something, I'm trying it out. And I know you are too. Cause you've been trying all my Instagram stuff out. I'm like, yes, go, scratch, go. Those are three things I focused on. Whether it's at my gym or the online services I provide is how can I create community. I think it's with everything. I thought it was just with health and wellness, but entrepreneurs too, with podcasters too. Why are these podcasting events so awesome? Because I get to be around people like Scott. I get to be around like minded people that have like minded problems and like minded wins and like minded goals and we all kind of get in there. I'm like, okay, I don't feel like I'm out there on an island anymore. So weight loss, we do that with business, we do that with podcasting. We do that and then, you know, doing that connection. With my podcast, I connect like nobody's business. Like people will email me. And a lot of people that listen to podcasts are used to just assuming that they won't get a response back. Right. That goes into the Ethereum. Maybe something happens, maybe it doesn't. You know, you get that wonderful compliment. I love your show. It's changed my life. And you know, I've made a bunch of money from Scott's show or I've lost a bunch of weight from Adam's show and they just like, they want to put that positive energy out there. I use an app called Bonjoro B O N J O R O and I will send a video message response back to that Person that's not even hoping they have, like, I'm not going to get a response. They get a personalized video response where I'm talking to them. Totally not scalable. I do some not non scalable things to add that connection. That's how you connect because people can sniff out that template email where their name gets filled in. Thank you, Adam. You know, and you are wonderful, Adam. You know, and it's like, like cut and paste in there. But they get a video for me. Like, hey, Scott, man, thanks so much for that compliment you gave me. I appreciate you listening. I appreciate the support. It means everything to me. Hope you have a great day. If there's anything I can do for you, just let me know. Also, within the Bonjoro, it allows you to put a link and I'll say, hey, I'd love to schedule a free 15 minute coaching session with you. Just grab that link below, get on my calendar, let's rock. And so many people connect that way. And down the line, a lot of those people will check out my stuff. If it makes sense, they'll be like, yeah, I wouldn't mind doing his boot camp or his program or whatever. I've talked to him a couple of times and that facilitates that connection. And then again, the implementation is giant. Where you need to be. There we go. I'm back on Instagram. We need to be implementing. So many people get fired up about stuff, whether it's health or whether it's business and all these new bells and whistles. Like, I'm a big fan of a 28 day cycle. If I get something new, I implement for 28 days. I take notes, I say, okay, this worked, this didn't work. You know, fine tune it. People with their diets, they'll be like, oh, I'm doing Paleo. And then Wednesday it's, you know, they're doing freaking Weight Watchers. And then it's like cheat days the rest of the time, you know, uh, and with business, people get psyched about Instagram and they like a couple of posts and maybe go live once and then they never do it again. So give it a 28 day run to implement and see what happens. So those are the three things that kind of bridge the gap for me.
That's smart, man. That 28 day thing is extremely smart. And I like, I like the, the aspect of yes. If you, you learn something, don't wait around, dive into it, start implementing. You're not going to stick with everything that you come across because God knows we come across A lot of great ideas like, oh, that's brilliant, oh that's brilliant. And adding that to our plan. But sometimes they're like, okay, this works great, or no, it doesn't really work with what I'm doing. And that's the beauty of it. At least give it time to work. The thing that frustrates me so much is I, especially when I'm teaching or coaching somebody, we give them a variety of different things to implement. I say, hey, you're not going to use all these, so quit trying to use them all. Find the few things that you really like that you're going to implement today, get doing rocking those and add something new in a month once you've got this other stuff done. I call it the the Theory of Unfinished Bridges. Have you heard about this?
No. It sounds good though.
So basically we're standing over here, we want to get to here. All right. All these things that we do as entrepreneurs, oh, I need to do an email blast or I need to have my LinkedIn profile, I need to work on my Instagram or I need to do a webinar. We start doing these things, but we don't ever finish completion. So we have all these unfinished bridges and we're really literally just pissing our time away off that cliff. And I tell people like, listen, you've got to do something. So get one thing and get it completed, get an email blast out, get your Instagram Live going, do something, get it done. Because it'll get easier the second time. And before too long, that little shaky bridge that you built across that cavern now is like a four lane highway. Cause you're going back and forth with that. And I know that's some of the things that you do as well with what you're working with your clients and things like that, right?
Yeah, a hundred percent. Like you have to be an implementer, but you have to be a completer also. And that's as an entrepreneur, as a type a personality, as a person. Like you and I, I both were. Same vein here. We got a million ideas a second. I keep an Evernote file that I call my idea bank. And this has helped me a lot too, because I don't want to forget that awesome idea that I just had. So I go on my phone and I add it to my idea bank and I review it once a week and I look at where everything's at, the kind of the big landscape, and I'll pluck it out of there when it's the right fit, the right time. That way Because I used to just be like, oh, like you said, I'm building all kinds of bridges just going. That's all I was doing. I was a partial bridge builder, a pbb all day long. I was in the PH as a pbb and nothing ever got done. Never made any money, never helped anybody. All right. And I was just getting excited about that next new shiny object. So the list, the idea bank helps a lot. Where I know I don't forget it. I review it on a regular basis. It's automated so that I know that every Thursday I review that list and that plucks something out as I think it's the right time or something moves off the schedule. I complete something. So I just launched my evergreen online summit, Million pound Mission University. It's been like a huge project. I'm doing it. Like I've done 18 hours of interviews over the last month.
Wow, man.
And that's done. That's in flow now. Now I can bring something out. I told you, I'm working on a. A mini course for podcasting, Instagram for podcasters. So that's the next thing that gets folded down and I got some ideas around that, and now I can start implementing that.
That's awesome. I love that you call it your big idea folder.
Well, I call my idea bank.
Idea bank. That's it. I heard the bank and I started thinking banking can't help it. It's training my system out there. What are some of the simple things? Let's bring it back a little bit to the entrepreneur side of things, especially on the fitness side. What are some very simple changes that people can make today? It doesn't have to be life changing, but little simple things that they can do to start implementing. Start seeing some. Some impact. Adam.
Yeah. With our health, I focus on what I call my. My amazing results formula. Scott, There are four components, right? Simple. That's why I said this. I'm not a sexy program designer person. I'm basics with implementation and accountability. So four things. First thing is we have to get committed to a nutrition plan for the next 28 days. Everything's kind of that I do is based around a 28 day cycle. And that's again, you got to put a ring on the finger. It's not. I'm gonna date around with some paleo and then switch keto and, you know, maybe Thursday I'll do a little something else. So you get committed and like we said earlier, we see what works, we see what doesn't work. We make notes and then we make Some small changes going forward. So a 28 day commitment with nutrition. We know what the rules of the game are. Not if the word like, I'm trying Weight Watchers or I'm trying, that's not good enough. Like, you need to know what's available, what you can't eat, what is Paleo, what is not Paleo. Know the rules of the rules of the game. That's the first commitment, that 28 day cycle. The next one, the second component is fitness. People are like, fitness, I'm trying to fitness taco in my mouth. You know, that's not. That's not the kind of fitness we're talking about. Uh, we're looking at your workout schedule and it's not, again, not just trying, like, ugh, I might sign up for a bootcamp class. I might go like you. Your trainer is coming over. It's scheduled 28 days in advance. I want. If you take group classes, book them in advance. If you work with trainers, pay them in advance. I want you to know what days of the week, what types of workouts, why you're doing those workouts for 28 days. Right. The third component is what I call strategic thinking. This is where I veer off into the woods where not a lot of people go. So I feel like this is actually the most important thing because this is what will help you escape from the black hole of fitness. Doom, doom, doom. So the black hole of fitness doom is this cycle. It's a circle, all right? We start something new, we get some initial results. Life happens. We're not ready for it. We crash and burn. We go back through this. There it is. There it is. Yeah. We waste our hope, our willpower, our time, our money, our effort. You see? How many people do you guys all know? Everybody just go ahead and raise your hands that have, you know, lose that 20 pounds, gain it back every year, back and forth, back and forth. It beats us down. So thinking strategically is where we pivot. That's the third component. We look at the bottom of that cycle, the life happens moment, and we say, what are those things that always wreck our momentum? Right? Is it going on vacation? Is it traveling? Is it nighttime snacking? Is it you don't like to meal prep? Is it you don't, you know, you are afraid of injury, whatever it is. A lot of people just went on spring break, they'll start something new. They're doing Weight watchers. They lose 20 pounds, they go on spring break and they totally blow it. And then they crash and burn, and they don't get back to the gym for three months, they don't get back on plan for three months. And so many people do that over and over and over again. So strategic thinking means we are looking for those danger zones. We are going to analyze, identify, analyze, and plan ahead for those danger zones so that the next time they come around, we're a little bit more well equipped. We know, okay, that's my danger zone. The spring break happens. I'm going to book my workouts for a month after spring break. So I've got my plan set up. When I walk back and hit home soil, I just walk right back into a plan. So many people are out there going, oh, CrossFit didn't work. My personal trainer didn't work. My weight watchers didn't work. And what didn't work was we weren't ready for that life happens moment. And that's why I said, we can plug in any nutrition program, any fitness program, get better results by thinking strategically. That's the third component. The fourth components we have nutrition, fitness, strategic thinking, fourth component, consistency. Consistency over time with the first three. We show up 28 days at a time, map those things out, be consistent. Always thinking strategically. We crush it. Those. I mean, that's that simple. It's that simple, Scott. And people, especially the typical person is like the challenged person. Like, well, that's not bright and shiny. That sounds like effort. I'm like, yeah, consistent effort kicks everything else's butt out there. So that's why I lost a hundred pounds. That's how I helped 10 people in my hometown lose. Lose 100 pounds. That's how my hometown lose 35,000 pounds in five years. It's just. And then accountability to all that stuff is having those accountability anchor points built in. So a lot of people are out there and they feel like they're on an island by themselves. And especially those people, they're in that black hole and they get just down on themselves, you know, and they think, I'm. Maybe I'm just like this. Maybe I'm just genetically structured so that I can't lose weight. And they start beating themselves up. So having accountability, having a community, having some support around all this. Weight loss is probably one of the hardest things, if not the hardest thing I've ever done. You know, losing that much weight is hard. It's hard as hell. And I had people out there to help me out and hold me accountable and support me along the way. So the weight loss journey and the entrepreneurial journey are kind of one and the same. A lot of those things, they go right across the board. And you can implement those tactics as well with your business.
Great, great stuff there. I love those four points. Let's recap them one more time for everybody out there.
First one is what you're committed for 28 days to your nutrition plan.
Committed. Not dabbling, not just sticking your toe in the water. You're all in the deep band, right?
Yeah. Yeah. Anytime we're setting goals, we don't use the word try. We don't use the word more, we don't use the word less. Those are too vague. Right. We gotta be very specific. So we're committed to 28 days nutrition. We're committed to 28 days of fitness, which means booked out in advance. Not I might wake up at 6 and go to the workout, because that never happens. We hit the snooze button and sleep until 15 minutes before we have to go to work. That's what happens. Then the third one is thinking strategically, thinking about those danger zones in advance. And then fourth is consistency with the first three. Boom.
Do you have that branded somewhere? I hope so.
Well, I wrote a book.
Well.
And you like it because it's lime green. So you're gonna love this, Scott, because I wrote this book. I sat down on a weekend. I'm like, I need to get some of this information to book form. So I just, like, there aren't even any paragraphs. It's just like, Whoosh, straight through 100 pages of me just blasting away about stuff that we just talked about. And I call it the third component. How to get better results from any nutrition or fitness program. It's all about strategic thinking. I dive deep in all that. But my marketing was, I look at my bookshelf, I go, you know what? No green books. I'm putting out a green covered book. So I didn't make a nice cover or anything. It's lime green. I'm like, that'll stand out on somebody's bookshelf. But I didn't realize, like, I have to get it on the bookshelf first. But, yeah, it's. It's on Amazon. It's called the third component, and it's like $3 or something like that. I don't know what it is, though. You can check that out.
Yeah, that's good stuff. That's good stuff there for you. You run your gym in Bloomington, too. Correct. Do you have a gym there? How long have you run that for?
I had the gym. I opened the gym officially in 2009. We started doing boot camp type stuff. 2007, 2012 is when I had my very own place. And then a couple of years ago, we bought our own. Like, we bought the facility. So that's a whole other entrepreneurial mix of buying a facility with a separate LLC and then renting it back to myself and like working all that out, that whole cycle of tax savings fund or whatever. But yeah, that's one of the best moves I've ever made. And as you probably know, real estate in Indiana, like, I have a 4,000 square foot gym with 3 acres of land that I paid $180,000 for, and I've got 50 parking spaces. So it's pretty ridiculous.
That's awesome though. But that's you. That's why I wanted to bring up here with everybody, because we've talked with people and a lot of people bring on trainers and stuff like that. But you're an owner operator. You're doing a lot of stuff. You're just not, in theory, you're actually in this on a day in, day out basis. And I think a lot of people get excited about somebody who maybe is online, but they don't aren't in it on a day in, day out basis. You know what I mean? It's a theory. But no, you live this stuff day in, day out, not only with you and your family, but your clients, your community.
Yeah, that's a big deal to me, and that's something I hang my hat on because there are a lot of online influencers out there that just kind of name themselves an expert and they've got testimonials and they have people that will like, I'm one of Adam's clients and look at these giant pants I used to wear. You know, it's like, I don't know, like all my. I'm very strict. If you guys go on my Instagram, you can see a bunch of the before and afters. If you go to millionpowermission.com youm can see before and afters. You won't see me. I mean, you can dig around and you can find my pictures. That's a tripwire for a lot of people that are looking for somebody to get coached by. If their pictures are the only ones you see, run the other direction. Because it's way different transforming yourself and then transferring that knowledge to help someone else. Completely different game plan. So with me, it's client facing. Like, okay, look at all these people. They are strict with their before and afters. They have to be the same size. They can't be, like, standing next to big clothes and stuff like that. Here's this, and here's 150 pounds later. Here's the beginning. Here's 70 pounds later. So that's something that I'm super proud of because I am in the trenches. I've lost weight. I've helped a ton of people lose weight. And it's not just weight loss, too. It's about, like I said before, it's. It's more about reclaiming control of your health. That's my true mission. Because so many people just feel like the world and all the life circumstances are controlling their health. And they're super busy because they're entrepreneurs and they have kids and their kids have 12 sports, and their spouse isn't supporting them with their weight loss journey. Like, that's. You know how many times I hear that every day? Like a million. And the thing is, it's kind of like we're driving around. We got our foot all the way down on the pedal, you know, pedal the metal, and we let go of the steering wheel. We hope for the best. There you go. That was a good sound effect. And. And with programs that I'm designing with the podcast, with the connections I'm making, I'm just trying to show people how to grab a. Hold that steering wheel again and maybe ease back on the pedal a little, back a little bit and just regain control. And it feels better than anything that people experience out there because it's just like, okay, now I can truly take my body and my health where I need to be. And that's a super awesome feeling.
Oh, yeah, I'm sure it's an awesome feeling. But what's so great is people have success in their business life and their personal lives when they take care of their health. I mean, it's easy for us to get down ourselves. Oh, I didn't go to the gym today. Or I feel so fat, or I can't fit into these jeans or the shirt. And it adds a whole negative connotation to our day. Like you said, we get sucked into that kind of that black hole aspect of things, but you have little victory. You go to the gym. I love it. 28 days straight. Commit to 28 days. Let's commit to it. And that gives you enough time. Seven days isn't enough for three days isn't enough to see any change whatsoever except the sweaty clothes you may have been working out in. Right?
Yeah.
Or how sore your ass feels. Right. For the first time.
Yeah.
But you have that momentum and it builds a little bit each day. Momentum at the end of the 28 days. Oh, I can see some momentum. Let's stick with this. Let's keep this going. The same thing in business, Keep rocking, keep implementing, keep focusing forward. But that whole. I know I always feel better in the afternoon after I work out my trainer. No matter how rough a morning I'm having, I know that, hey, I've got my hour to kind of unwind my mind to clear it up. I don't have that mid afternoon slump like a lot of people do. I keep rocking forward in the afternoon till 6, 7, 8 o' clock at night, and then we kind of relax a little bit, go from there. But it's such great, great things. That four point strategy you're talking about phenomenal stuff for those out there that are struggling because everybody struggles, let's just all admit to it, right?
Yep.
The sooner you can admit to it, the happier you'll be. And then, then you have a course of action to take some steps and go forward with that. And I love what you're doing with that, man. That's just awesome.
Thank you, Scott. And like you said, it's something that people can apply to business. I'm sure that if you go back, like five episodes of Scott's podcast and listen to those, you're going to have an abundance of tips. Pick the one that makes the most sense, that could be the most impactful, and implement for the next 28 days. And I bet some serious magic happens.
That's totally the case. Take one thing, but that's the thing I get so aggravated about when I, I'm talking to investors and they call me up, hey, I want to get in a note. It's like, okay, great. What are you doing? Tell me what you're doing. Well, I'm doing this and this and this and this. Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a second. If you're trying to be a jack of all trades, you're a master of none.
Yep.
Let's focus on one thing. If you're going to keep going to all these different workshops and seminars, this isn't for you, and I don't want your money. And they're like, huh? I'm like, yeah, you're not serious. You're not committed, you're not Beyonce. We're not going to put a ring on it.
I think it's got.
That's right. What frustrates you the most, Adam? What's the, what's the thing that really frustrates you the most about being an entrepreneur.
Well, I think with the health journey, I 100% know, like, it's burning inside of me, Scott. I know I can help people a hundred percent. Like, it's not like whether, oh, maybe this will work, maybe it won't. I a hundred percent know. The thing I get most frustrated about in the health journey and coaching people in that space is when I want it so much more than they do. And initially I'm like, you know, I get it. You're gonna have, we're, have to ramp up your momentum, plug into this energy, plug in, borrow my energy until you can build up your own. But you do have to build up your own, you know what I'm saying? Like, you have to match levels with me eventually, and then you're on fire. And it's just frustrating when people aren't willing to do that. And I know it's like some of these are life changing situations, like somebody's going to die. Like I had, okay, good example, sad example. About three months ago, we had a guy come in my gym and like, we put people to work, we make them report in every day. They have to do an accountability report, do an accountability coach. If they don't, then it's not like we're mean to them, but we are like, hey, we got to get this, we got to get this every single day. Day three, he invests 500 bucks. Day three, he's like, this just isn't for me. And he quit. Three months later, dead. Heart attack. I would have loved to had a shot at that guy. You know what I'm saying? Just, we got to realize, you know, whether we're entrepreneurs or employees or whatever, that if we don't invest in ourselves, if we're not around and we can't be around for our kids, all those people that need us, I don't, I'm not going to walk my daughter down the aisle. I'm not going to see my, my son, you know, fall in love and get married and play with grandkids and stuff like that. And we just can't have that blindfold on, especially as entrepreneurs because we're so goal driven, Scott. And I mean, you know, it as much as I do, like, we will do anything to achieve that goal, but what are we giving up on the back end? And we got to find that happy medium and that's the balance I tried to help people achieve.
Yeah, I mean, it's, I, I feel that, man, we have things like that happen occasionally. Somebody's like, oh, I'm not for You. And then three months later, I see somebody working a minimum wage job somewhere flipping burgers. I'm like, dude, Chick, what's up, man? I mean, if you'd have stuck to what you were doing. But I think that's why you, I'm sure that's why you believe community is so important too. Because if somebody's in their misery alone, not leaving the house or not going and plugging into a community, it's hard to have that energy if you don't have it. That's why it's great to plug into you or other people there. But going to this, you know, that community, going to that gym and hanging out with other people, you will absorb some of that energy just organically anyway. Right?
Yeah. And don't fear accountability. Whether you're an entrepreneur or you're on a health journey, people run away from accountability. Like that gentleman that I just described. And what you have to the people, they link up accountability and judgment. They're like, oh, someone's going to be judging me, someone's going to be calling me fat if I don't report in, or that, you know, people will be pointing the finger and saying, oh, failure in business if I fail. And you need to link up accountability with support, accountability with coaching, accountability with love, mentorship. Because I know you've got just a raging communities, you know, and I've seen how active it is. Like, I look for accountability anchor points in life and business. Every area that I spend a lot of time, I'm like, how can I anchor in some accountability? How can I get something connected where somebody's expecting something of me, I'm expecting something of them. And it's all love, it's all support and we're lifting all the ships. And that's why I love the podcast space, like meeting people like you. I a hundred percent know I could text you and be like, all right, listen, man, I need to go live every single day on Instagram. You wanna do that challenge with me? And you would do it and I would do it. We'd hold each other accountable to that. Like, things like that. That's what you look for. Don't shy away from it. Because if you do fail, like, let's say you start a new business and you fail, you know, but what do we learn from that? You know, it's not, it's not life or death scenario usually. So don't be afraid because if you never try, if you never get going, then you never know what's going to happen. And that way you have to live with that. What if. And that's not good either.
Yeah, regrets are always the worst thing. What if I did this? What if I did this? Well, don't what if it. Just go ahead and do it. That's the thing that was always instilled. Don't live regrets. Make memories. Try something new. Give it 100%, you know, don't half ass it. And I think so many people, they were 100% committed into eating or drinking that way on. They're not quite 100% committed to taking it off and working through it and seeing the positive impacts that can come from it. I mean, I look back over the last three years and I no longer have back spasms. I'm not. I'm energetic, do a lot more fun stuff. I enjoy it a lot stronger, strong as an ox again. But it didn't happen overnight. It didn't happen. It wouldn't have happened unless I was something accountable or I had. I knew that I wanted to be here a lot longer. You got to take your health and make it a priority versus priority number one for the most part, versus priority number 10 or 12 or stuff like that down the road.
Yep. Yeah. You got to level up that commitment to health, invest in you. There's a saying now, I get this right about 12% of the time people spend. Here we go. Let's see what works. People spend their youth investing, elevating their income, and they give up their health. And then their later stages, they have to invest and they have to give up their wealth to reinvest in their health. I got it pretty much there. So you don't want to just neglect your health early on and then later on come back and have to all that wealth you've built up go and spend it. Because now you've got diabetes and now you need joint replacements, and now you gotta hire all these people to get your. Your blood pressure down. Or maybe you lose 20 years of your life. You know, what would you do with an extra 20 years of your damn life? You know, that's. That's worth something, right? That's worth getting up at 5:30am a couple times a week to go sweat with Adam. Burpees aren't that bad. Scott.
Burpees suck.
They do.
But you're right, because it's. And it's one of the biggest things. I was like, okay, I'm putting 50 bucks in the. In the bank of Scott this afternoon. 50 bucks a day. And it's kind of like the whole retirement thing. You put a Little bit. And you pay yourself first aspect, like the rich dad, poor dad, pay yourself first. Or the richest man in bottom. Pay yourself first, put that 10% in, and then feed yourself with the rest of the stuff. But pay yourself first, that's the deposit, whether it's 30 minutes a day or an hour a day, doing just a couple days a week can add so much more joy, longitivity to your life and things like that. I lost my dad and he died when he was 69. He struggled with diabetes for years. His heart wasn't pumping only like 18% what it should have been because it was affected by him being sick. He just didn't take care of his health as well as he should have been. And from the time I was like 10, I can remember himself sticking himself twice a day with needles for insulin. And I thought, I did not want to do that when I turned 40. I did not want to do that in my later year. I want to be around, enjoy all the fun stuff that we've created. That's the thing too. You understand this. Hey, I don't want to work my ass off, make all this money and then just be sick.
Yeah. Yeah. And I mean, one of the big shifts that just rocks people's world that I've made is I joined an entre. Part of the accountability is I joined an entrepreneurial coaching program called Strategic Coach, which is amazing. And I did that for six years. And they are big on making entrepreneurs book free days. And we set a goal. And a free day is no work, no work email, no work phone, no work thinking, no work reading, no projects. And you have to book those 90 days in advance. And so. And they hold you accountable to it. So now I'm doing my goal every year is to have at least 110 to 120 free days every year. So what that means. Scott, I work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and most times Friday, Saturday, Sunday, no work family, me rejuvenate. And by doing that with my schedule and my people know, like my clients know. And they give me hell when I. If I email them on a Sunday, they're like, this is your day off. You do not need to be emailing me. Because they know I've been in the hospital three times from working too much. So. And every once in a while we'll do a Friday or a Sunday, like project day. But I track all my free days and I keep those goals. Just like I was trying to train for a marathon or something. I track all the stats, but by compressing my work Week to four days. I have to get more efficient. I have to say no to more things. I have to make every minute count. And I have to be fully present and be very, very effective, which with everything that I do. So right now, this is me and Scott time. This isn't. Oh, I got this other list of stuff I'm worried about. And so taking that step. People freak out in the world of hustle mode that we live in, but I want to enjoy these years. I've got. My son's 8, my daughter's 4. Now I want to pick them up from school and go play. Like yesterday, I picked him up from school. We played outside all day. We did basketball and this, like, ball, I don't even know what it looks like, lacrosse thing. And me and my daughter, like, throwing it at each other out there, dodging cars in the road when the basketball goes out there. I'm a great dad, but that's more important to me. Like, I want to live life as we go. I'm not, like, living la vida loca, going to the Caribbean every weekend and driving fancy cars and stuff like that. Because that's not me. No, nothing against it, but I'm more. The compensation I'm worried about is time and quality of time, quality of relationship and impacts that I'm making. So that's another little thing that I do that throws people for a curve sometimes is my actual work week schedule.
Hey, I love it. The four day work week or. Because that's the thing, you look at it. If you take a look at what your schedule is, I guarantee we all have big gaping holes in our schedule of unproductivity. And if you take the time, you really focus on getting the things that you need to get done. It's the 21st century with tools and social media tools and virtual assistants. You can still put 40 hours in. You just don't always have to be present for it.
Yeah.
And if you maximize that stuff, that's, you know, I love that Monday through Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday is my downtime. You better not be calling me. It better be emergency. Somebody better be dying if you be calling me on those days. Right.
Well, and just one final point on that, Friday is my day, all right? And that's what a lot of parents and entrepreneurs and business people are unwilling. They feel guilt, like, oh, I should be, you know, in my Facebook group or I should be doing something for my kids or whatever. Friday, we have to take time for ourselves. So on Fridays, I can sit at home in my underwear and Watch Game of Thrones all day long. I can go work out. I can sit in the sun. I can do whatever I want. Now after kids are out of school, like, we do some family stuff. But that first part of the day, I don't feel any guilt. Guilt free reinvests in me, and that's so important. So I. I challenge entrepreneurs out there. If you feel like you're burned to a crisp, take one day during the weeks, especially if you have kids. That way, when they're at school, that guilt is less. Right. And just do whatever you want to do. You want to go to a movie, Cool. You want to go and sit and watch movies all day, Cool. Do that. You want to go get a massage, Cool. Do that. Get your nails done, get your hair done, get your hair did, whatever you need to do and just invest in all the stuff and reinvest in you spend time, just one day, and see how that impacts you. You'll come out the next day, the best ideas, you'll have the best conversations. You're. You're crisp, you're clear, and it's a game changer. And then Saturday, Sunday, that allows me as a parent to say, okay, I've had my time. I feel replenished. I feel good. Now I can really focus on my wife. I can connect with her. I can connect with my kids and be fully present and not feeling like, oh, God, I got to go to another basketball game. There's 12 of them this weekend. I'm like, I'm there, and I'm filming and I'm running the scoreboard and, you know, and it's. It's allows that investment in me first, allows me to be super present, and I'm not just divided like a pie chart everywhere. You know, I'm not answering emails and checking my phone and. And stuff like that. I'm like, I'm there. I'm that crazy dad that's out there running around with the basketball team and getting all fired up and stuff. And that. That would be one challenge if people were out there, especially entrepreneurs. Take one day, even if it's just that half day. And do you do what you need to do for you and see how you come out the back end?
That's such a great, great tip. Cause I think so many people put themselves last, and then they just drain themselves down. They don't have the energy to do the things. And I love that huge, huge thing. Take a half day, Take a full day. You're set. So smart, Adam. And it's easier done than just said, I think is the thing. Right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. Don't feel guilty about it. You know, you deserve time for you. You're worth it. Your health is worth it. Your relationships will benefit from it. So that's worth it. And just get out there and do it.
Awesome. What's the best way for people to reach out to you, Adam? Find out more what you're doing or plug into your community.
