Foreign.
Money, where we show you how to pay your home loan off in up to half the time of a normal bank loan. Welcome to the Crown Money Podcast. I'm Jessi Edge and today I've got a really great guest with us. I'd like to introduce Reuben Debrau. He's been a financial strategist, financial consultant of ours for the last two years and we just really wanted to get to know more about Reuben and introduce you to our listeners. So, Reuben, welcome.
Thank you very much. Jesse J, how you going?
I'm good, very good. How are you today?
I'm very good until you said my surname incorrectly. So it's okay.
How do you pronounce it? Is that how you pronounce it? Two years we've been working together and I've been pronouncing it wrong and you tell me now.
Yeah, but we're on first name basis, so. Yeah, that's why.
I love it. That's great. Look, we just. Yeah, I'd love to know a little bit more about your history so where you've come from and, and how you came to join the Crown Money family. So tell us a bit about yourself. Sure.
Well, talking is my forte so I'll try to wrap it up as quick as I can. But I have, I've. I've moved house 38 times in 39 years, so very surprising. They're just obviously. Dad loved to drive, I guess, but.
I thought you were a removalist before.
Making friends and making new friends, very, very easy. I've kind of done everything when it comes to serving people, so I've worked in retail so they're helping people with clothing. Phones. I helped people with phones. Again, the best thing was just turn your phone off and on every now and then and it won't, then it won't bugger up from there. You know, I helped people over the bar or waiting so waiting on people and then I got into car sales and I absolutely hated it. But it was the best way to make an easy living for my family at the time, you know, we were. Yeah, I've done a lot of different things, some acting and all the rest of it in the background as well.
What, that you were an actor? Tell us how.
I'm not going to go into that.
But people can Google, it's not that.
Hard if they misspell my name. Bad luck. But no. So I've done a lot of different things serving people and so from there I, I then needed that stable job that would, you know, I finished some acting things and didn't have a car. And my dad said, I guess if you sell cars, they'll give you one. That was it. That was the basis of why I got into car sales. And there was a job down the road. And I said, okay. And I said, you know what? I'll still become that movie star. But seven years and two kids later, I. I didn't like the industry. It's not who I am. I love people. I love a good process. And I feel as though that industry can be quite, you know, quite bad. And for good reason. There's a lot of bad people in it. Had a good company to work for, but the people within sometimes, yeah, too many chefs spoil broth at point and sometimes that spoils me. And I. I just wasn't happy. And then the story to come over to crown money is a lot of one. I'll try to go really fast, but shout out to Craig Parry, the man, the myth, the legend. But he simply wanted to grow crowd money in South Australia even more. And he went to his network and said, hey, I need a good salesperson. Who do we know? And I didn't know my mate was in that network group. And he stood up and said, I've got someone for you. His name's Reuben. He goes, reuben, okay, what does he do? Oh, he sells cars for Toyota. And Craig straightaway said, no, not a chance.
I didn't realize him.
He's like, you don't know Reuben. He's a nice guy. He's really nice. He's lovely. He hates car sales, but he's good at it. And so he likes people. You should call him. Craig was like, yeah, yeah, okay. No, right. Craig then goes to his local barista and says to him, because he goes in there every week and he says, mate, I'm looking for a good salesperson. Did you know anyone he didn't know? That was one of my other best guy was in my wedding, right, the barista.
Wow.
Kiwi Dan. And so he said, yeah, oh, you should talk to my mate Reuben. And he goes, oh, what, the car salesman? No, and Kiwi's. I know you stand. No, Reuben, he's lovely. He doesn't like doing it, but he's very good with people. So, I mean, you know, two referrals, you know, that's who crown Money are. We're all referrals, you know. And so therefore I got to meet Craig in all these glory. We went and played nine holes and the rest is history. He basically showed me Crown Money. I brought my mortgage straight over and understood the principle. Yeah.
You're actually a client of Crowns, which is amazing as well.
I'm a client, so I know how powerful this is, is for not just the individual and their money management, but their family. And that's what I love. The first thing I heard from the CEO Scott Parry, out of his mouth was, I believe we save more marriages, our structure and our company than a psychologist or a psychiatrist, because they can identify the problem, generally fear not knowing where is it, what's going on. So they can identify it, but they can't fix it. Yeah.
It's so interesting because we. We kind of will joke about that exact statement quite often, but with all seriousness, we do actually have a, you know, such a huge impact on people's lives and their relationships. And money is the number one issue that most families will face. And if you can help relieve some of that pressure, it's such a game changer, so.
And when the arguments come, it's not about the tower that's always left on the ground or the laundry that's not put in. There's always a.
Although that is annoying.
It can be, and I'm sure if you had my wife on the podcast. But it's more so, generally speaking, the underbelly of it, which is fear. And where are we going? What are we doing? What's happening? Where's the money? How much are we doing? How much are you spending? What am I spending? What are we doing? It's. People are climbing a mountain with a blindfold, and they're stumbling at every impulse and rate rise. They just are like, I don't know what's going on. Why not take the blindfolds off and have a plan?
That's fantastic.
We found Money Machine. Yeah.
Tell me a little bit about your family.
My family? Sure. I have an absolute queen of 10 years. People say I'm punching above my weight.
And I'm like, well, you haven't seen any people, mate.
Many people. Come on. I. I was pretty important back in the day. People knew me. But no, my queen's the best thing. That's, you know, one of the best things that's ever happened to me. And I now have three beautiful boys. Seven, five, and baby. And they are what I do. They are for what I do. Yeah. Yeah. They're the reason for them. She is the queen of the castle and chateau de Bro. No matter where we live, we, you know, that's how we live. King and Quentin and our boys. And our marriage comes first. Because if we're good, the Kids are only going to be better for it, and that's how we've always rolled. It's a little selfish to the point where it's not like the kids come completely last. It's the fact that if we're happy, they're going to be much more happier and better for it, in my opinion. So that's my legends and my beautiful wife. That's what we do.
That's awesome. That's fantastic. It's such a good outlook on a relationship and life. And I totally agree with you. So that's wonderful. Tell me a little bit about what you've loved about working for Crown.
Well, it's the people. I mean, it's very close between the people and the product. Like, I absolutely understand this product on a personal level to where what it's done for me and my family, like, it's just so pivotal and powerful for our financial freedom to come. And, you know, the people that make it possible, Like, I've just. Yeah. I've never met anyone like, Scott Barry is an amazing man who has his faults, for sure, but one of them is not money management, and one of them is not building a product that then can, you know, absolutely change people's lives on the whole. Thousands of people's lives. And so. And yourself, Jesse J. Whenever I need you, you're always there. You know, I can always call, you know, and say, hi, what's lvr? Again, I have to do, you know, what's this? Or what's that? And I always love that I have the support and nurturing to be the best me possible. That is amazing. That is wonderful. To where I don't have to be put into a box. It's literally no be you. Be all you. And then sometimes maybe. All right, chill out, Reuben.
Take it down.
One note. Meeting Ruben. Team together. My own meeting.
And what I just love is that how much your passion comes through and what you do in everything that you do, the way that you speak with the clients, your relationships with the clients, your relationships with the staff, like, it's such a wonderful thing. And I think, you know, a lot of people would say that you found your calling with this, with what you're doing now. And I think that's wonderful to see. So anyone that gets the chance to work with you or meet with you or, you know, have a conversation with you, is very, very lucky and will no doubt massively benefit from that. So. Yeah. Well done, Reuben.
Shame. Oh, you guys appreciate it.
Well, that's just a little introduction to Reuben. It's so fantastic to have you on the podcast. We're going to have you on again soon to chat all things home loans. So looking forward to having another conversation. Thank you, Reuben.
Thank you, Jessie. Daddy.
