Trading 101: How Online Brokers Work ? (Why You Need One)

You can't trade stocks directly. A broker is the middleman that takes your buy and sell orders and sends them to the exchange. You open an account, deposit money, place trades through their platform, and pay a small commission on each one. Pick a broker with low fees and good service.

Now that we know the basics of the stock market, we can dive into the more fun things. Let's talk about how we actually buy and sell stocks. We do that through a middleman called a broker. These are companies that send our buy and sell orders to the central stock exchange computer. To start trading, we need to open a trading account with a regulated broker, preferably one with low fees and good customer service. I will link down below several brokers I actually recommend working with. It heavily depends if you are a US person or not. But what's even a broker? Think of them as the middleman between us and the stock exchange. They help us buy and sell stocks. Each time we make a trade, we pay a fee to the broker for their service. It's like when you buy something online and pay a shipping fee. Here's how it works. First, we open a trading account and deposit money into it. Then we use the broker's trading platform to actually make our trades. For example, let's say we want to buy 100 shares of Coca-Cola stock at $5 per share. We enter that order into the trading platform. Now the broker sends our order to the stock exchange computer. If there is someone willing to sell us those shares at that price, the trade is executed. And of course, we also pay a small fee to the broker for executing the trade. Behind the scenes, there's a lot happening, but for us, It's pretty simple. It's like buying a shirt online. You pick what you want, pay for it, and it's delivered to you. It's crucial to choose a broker with good customer service and a reliable trading platform. Imagine if you wanted to sell a stock, but the platform wasn't working or customer service wasn't helping. That could literally cost you money. In the stock market, there are different players like market makers. Their job is to help increase trading volume by trading stock all the time. This can affect stock prices But we'll dive deeper into that later. For now, just remember the brokers are the middlemen which helps us buy and sell stocks, and choosing the right one is really important. So just open the broker with the lowest fees and the best customer service.
