Luke discusses the used-car auction market as it reopened during early COVID. Inventory and lead flow are improving, prices are moving back toward MMR after dipping, and large buyers like Carvana are reshaping the market. Prices are expected to flatline rather than drop sharply.

Hey. Hey, everybody. How you doing? Hope everyone is geared up for a great week. Monday morning, ready to get at it. Luke, I don't know what it's like in your area, but I mean, stuff's starting to loosen up. We're starting to see some cracks. We're starting to see some daylight. Inventory is kind of moving. You know, our leads are coming in. And I'll tell you what, man, I think that people are buying at the auction again. Prices are not what they were. We had a little glimmer. We had a little window of opportunity and. And now it's business as usual, huh?
It's pretty close. Don't get me wrong. Cars are actually bringing, I think what they're worth right now. They're starting to creep back into MMR range for maybe two weeks. We saw 2000 to 1500 back of MMR is probably where you buy most your cars and a lot of cars not being sold. But what I noticed last week trying to buy cars or that cars were. We're really getting back to that mmr. Some of your bigger players, Carvana, haven't seen drive time buying yet, but Carvana definitely was buying last week. So it's a little different. Different scenario than we had three to four weeks ago. Now I was lucky enough I bought a lot of cars during that time. So hopefully, hopefully I don't mind buying cars on MMR. I don't like buying cars 1000-1500 over MMR. So. So let's see how it goes. But I think we're loosening up. We're opening back up things here in South Carolina pretty well. We've had a dang good month, probably a lot from that stimulus money. But, you know, I think things are creeping back to normal.
So in your opinion, Luke, if, when I'm buying this week, should I be paying MMR and maybe a titch over and just realize that, hey, that's where we're going. The thought that in two to three to four to six months, I'm going to be paying less for these cars. It's just not going to happen. It's just going to keep going up, up, up, up, up.
Well, I think, I think we're going to get a. I think we're going to get a flat line is my opinion. Now when we talked to the nada guidebook guy the other week, he talked about this being a blip and I think it's truly somewhat of a blip. But I think we're going to see market repercussions from this I do believe we're gonna flatline. I think MMR is probably gonna level out. And once that is there, if some of these big players don't jump back in, then that's where it should stay.
But don't think you're gonna be stealing them right now. You're not pay the money, hey, MMR or a 500 or grand over because those in demand, Chevy Silverados and whatever else are gonna go right back to being two grand over mmr like those.
I think there's some cars out there that can be bought under mmr and those are your run of the mill cars. But your, your hard loaded stuff and your trucks, they're creeping back up to where they should be bought. So I don't think, I don't think you're gonna steal something really, you know, spectacular right just now, right this minute.
Yeah. Yeah, that's what I'm seeing too. So hopefully you guys be smart when you're out there buying, obviously you've got the cash to be on the offense. I think we think that it's a smart move even to get stuff at MMR is probably going to be good in the next two to three to four months. You know, prices are going to probably hold. I don't see stuff dropping for a minute. But anyways, great week guys. Stay positive, stay happy, stay healthy and be sure to leave us a review. Share this with your friends.
