Hey, hey. Happy Monday, everybody. Hope you guys had a great, great weekend and you are ready for May. But Luke, first off, let's chat a little bit about April. How did your April end up? I mean, obviously things were complete. I mean, just crazy March. April will just be like a deleted out of the history books. Hopefully not May. But where'd you end up?
Man, we've been really blessed. I in March was phenomenal April. We had forecasted 32, then we adjusted to 15 because of all the coronavirus and we ended up with 30. So I cannot complain. And you know, April was going to be all along I thought was going to be the hardest month when this first started. Now May maybe, I don't know, but because it seems like politicians keep moving the, moving the goalpost here.
Yeah, yeah. It'll really depend on when things start opening up. People get back to work, they're actually traveling again and they realize that their car's not cutting it, they're comfortable with their income. For me, April was about a third off and I didn't shut down anything. I stayed completely open, ran promotions, pushed advertising. Part of it was I was short staffed going in to this whole thing as far as salesman go. And then I had one salesman leave. So I was really short staffed. And I think I pinpointed that as my problem, hopefully getting that fixed this week. But yeah, not quite as good of April as I'd hoped. But May. I'm definitely, I'm actually getting into radio again. I've completely swore off radio. I think it's complete waste of money. But there's deals out there. So when they're doing a buy one, get one free radio spot in my area, I think, hey man, now the, now the economics are there. Let me give it one last swing, you know. So I think there's some opportunities for us to get out there, you know, and see where those deals are for.
Both marketing for sure. I think may is an opportunity month. We should just define it as that. It's an opportunity month. It's an opportunity hire great people because there's a lot of good people out of work. Right. It's an opportunity to maybe get with your vendors and negotiate a better rate. Right. Because maybe they see some people dropping off. And it's also an opportunity to train as usual and an opportunity to find maybe some marketing ideas that we haven't been using. Like you're talking about radio because I'd be willing to bet you there are some deals in radio and TV right now. So get out there and make it an opportunity and really work hard to key in on some things that you haven't been doing.
I love it. May, the month of opportunity. And the thing that pops to my mind in that situation is if you're smart enough, you might be able to lock in some long term contracts at this new rate. I know a lot of vendors are giving you a month or two off, but they want you to jump back to the original rate from then on out. So if you sign a radio dealer, a TV deal, you know you're getting a stellar rate. Try to get a six month contract or eight month contract if you know you're going down that road anyways. So long term savings too, for sure.
Because you got to remember right now, there's a lot of. There's a lot of open spots because you got a lot of retail establishments that still aren't open and they're probably not thinking about advertising. So you can lock in a good rate right now with TV or radio. It's probably not a bad idea.
Mm. May, the month of opportunity. Luke.
Yes, sir.
Best to you, man. We'll talk to you on Thursday.
All right, buddy.
