A TED Talk-style conversation in which Ebony Roberts and Shaka Senghor recount how childhood family trauma shaped their desire to parent differently. After nearly nine years together they separated while parenting their son Sekou; despite the breakup they deliberately chose to co-parent as allies rather than adversaries. They describe practical parenting choices (letting Sekou explore, refusing societal limits on Black joy), the emotional work of supporting one another, and a nightly affirmation ritual (call-and-response) used to empower their son.
