(recorded April 2, 2019). The excerpt is a multi-speaker transcript from a local BNI networking chapter meeting: several members (labeled SPEAKER A, B, C, E, F, G and named Brian Plow) speak about what makes the group unique—friendships, accountability, trust, personalized service, and referral value. SPEAKER B introduces herself as Shelley Rood, a professional speaker and entrepreneur in Metro Detroit whose platform is "strong women." The discussion centers on membership benefits, networking experiences, and how members rely on and refer one another.
Chapters
The one thing that makes this group unique is our friendships. The fact that we're taking time to learn more about each other, to learn about our interests, not just what our business does, but we're learning about each other as human beings. That's what makes this group more unique.
My name is Shelley Rood. I'm a professional speaker and entrepreneur here in Metro Detroit. My platform is strong women. I have a network of these ladies that just kick butt. They're female firefighters, they're female veterans.
So how long have I been in BNI? I've been in BNI a short period of time. It's only been about 3, 3.5 years for me. But what's interesting is that I had thought about it for years and it's been recommended to me to find a networking group for years. In my industry in real estate, we look for top producers. We try to sponge off of their ideas. And one of the things that keeps coming back over and over is Join a networking group. So even though it's only been 3 and a half years, I've been wanting to do it for a lot longer. It just is— sometimes it takes a while to get into the right group and the right mix of people. So I highly recommend it after my short amount of time, and I look forward to a lot of years in the future of continuing to grow with the group.
Good morning, B&I.
Good morning, Brian.
Good morning, Brian Plow, Keith Full Service Group's automotive service technician, conveniently located at 250 North Rose, just off of Roseback. My S this week is spring is coming. You know, we had some really, really super cold weather.
They're calling me directly, and I'm going to— so when they say it's cold, you don't understand, say yes, I do, I live around the corner. You know, so those are the type of things that we give that personal service. You know, when I send Rob out to a house, I call the day after to make sure he took care of my customers the right way. You know, which Tony goes out to the house, we call back, and I have these people call back all the time. They're renewing their warranties with us instead of another company because of the personalized service that we give them.
But I have a CU More Money Mondays. I met with, had a nice one-to-one with Adam, who's I think in Florida right now enjoying that nice warm weather. I have one for Dr. Miller, every girl, and then one for Mr. Powell.
What makes the group unique is that everybody is in the same canoe I'm in. I'm getting up at 5 o'clock in the morning. Going through traffic, going through weather changes to be here at 7 o'clock on time. And all these other people are in the same boat with me. And if they're going to those distances and those troubles to promote their businesses just like I'm promoting it, then I'm going to row just as much as I expect them to row. I hold them accountable and they hold me accountable. And that's a great, that's a great club to be in.
Remember ever meeting somebody, but you have to be careful not to do that because that doesn't give of all the people— Nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you.
Met me 5 times. I'm not going to have confidence in them referring to him. He clearly doesn't pay attention to anything.
Great 10-minute— Thank you.
I was just thinking about how it'll impact our businesses in the future kind of as that was going on. So it's—
There's a couple reasons why my membership is worth the investment. First of all, I get to learn about other businesses in my community that are doing impactful things for other adults. So my membership helps me to educate my peers, my friends, and my family about their services. So when they're in need, I know exactly who to call.
The absolute trust that I have in everybody in this group is what I really appreciate more than anything. As I'm referring my clients out to these people, that's a service that I provide to them. So I need to make sure that the people I'm referring out to them are the type of people I could trust with every aspect of my client's needs. So that's what I really take the most from this group, is being able to rely on the other people in it to represent themselves the same way I would represent myself. It's absolutely fantastic, and I don't think I could find another group like it, which is why I stay.
