In this short vlog, Shelly (of Others Over Self®) shares her experience of moving from a small studio to a larger one, describing the physical and emotional strain that accompanies such a transition. She reflects on a past, difficult house move after a divorce to illustrate how similar negative emotions can arise even in a positive context. Shelly’s core advice is to counter those feelings by identifying the top three benefits of the adventure and repeating them as a mantra, using concrete examples like better lighting, improved sound quality, and a more comfortable appearance. She frames the approach within her broader philosophy that the needs of others outweigh personal discomfort, encouraging viewers to stay focused on the benefits and trust that they will emerge on the other side of the adventure.

Hey, friends. Shelly here. I look a little sweaty because I've been carrying boxes around. Today we're talking about adventure. And right now, the biggest adventure that we're on is moving from a small studio space into this much larger one. We're in the middle of it, which means that it doesn't feel very good. So how do we do this? How do we get through an adventure when the physical and maybe even the emotional toil is weighing on us? It might be a move like where we are right now, or maybe it's a whole house move. I had to do that years ago as the result of a divorce, and that was a really difficult move for me to make. So even though that situation was one of a negative surrounding, this situation is more of a positive surrounding. And yet here I am experiencing many of the same emotions, dealing with going through boxes, feeling. Feeling like I'm undoing all of the work that I did to invest in that original space in the beginning. You see where I'm going with this? Okay, so once again, when we're on an adventure like a move, and we're feeling these negative emotions, how do we get through it? The answer is to focus on the benefits. Come up with the top three benefits of why you're doing whatever adventure you're doing and repeat those to yourself as a sort of mantra as things start to turn negative inside of your head. So for us, I remember that I'm moving to a bigger space. I'm moving to a better space. And it is going to feel so good once I get everything set up and my lighting just perfect. I won't have these bags under my eyes. I won't look quite so splotchy. My voice wouldn't have that reverberation you might be able to hear. It's going to get better, isn't it? Yes. Yes, it is. And just keep saying that to yourself over and over again. I'm Shelly, reminding you that the needs of others are more important than your own. And even when there are times, like maybe right now, where we don't feel that they are, focus on the benefits, and I'll see you on the other side of your amazing adventure. Have a great day.
