Mission: Ambition, Be A Creative Networker

Shelly Rood, founder of Mission Ambition, argues that creative networking beats traditional coffee meetings. She challenges you to call someone and meet outdoors for walking, skeet shooting, or a gun range session. Shared experiences make people remember you.

Hey everybody, I'm Shelly Rood, the founder of Mission Ambition. Welcome to Port Huron. It's so beautiful out here. I'm getting ready to head up to Rix's rooftop where I'm going to meet with the Michigan Real Estate Masterminds group. My good friend Keith Stonehouse started that group, and I think he's a genius for how he's bringing people together in the housing industry. We're not gonna talk about that for too much longer though. What I wanna talk about today is creative networking. Ugh, business networking. There's so many business networking groups. Some of them are hard networking groups where you gotta bring in slips and do a certain amount of leads for people. There's nothing wrong with that. I'm in one of those groups. There's casual groups which, you know, can turn into just having coffee with people and saying hi. And then there's all those evening networking groups where people get a little too tipsy and You really learn how they do business. Well, today I wanna talk to you about creative networking. You ready for your dare? I dare you to go outside and do some creative networking. That means that I want you to call somebody in your networking roster, someone that you think you got a pretty decent relationship with, and invite them to go for a walk. Get outside, enjoy the sunshine. There's nothing more creative than the creation that's already been made for you. Let me tell you why that I want you to get to know somebody on a different level. So in the military, the training that we do is hard. It kind of sucks even sometimes, like really bad. But the friends that we make and the contacts that we make through the military, we're like this, we're battle buddies for life. Because when you take an environment and you present challenges, the people that you're with throughout those challenges will pull you in and you will have deeper connections with them than anyone else in your life. So if you're just sitting at Starbucks having coffee, or take a look at your schedule for this next week, if everybody's at a restaurant and everybody's having coffee, here's the deal, get out, get out, go do something different. Do you think that they're gonna remember you as your 5th coffee appointment for the week? No, go take 'em skeet shooting. Call me, take me skeet shooting. Go out, hit some clays, go to the gun range. If that's not your thing, fine, go for a walk in the park, but find a creative way to connect with them so that you guys will remember that experience and you'll be deeper connected? Are you just making boring, casual business contacts, or are you actually living your life with intention every day to make your community a better place? Sorry, but you guys can't do that inside a coffee shop. You gotta get out every once in a while. In fact, the coffee owners, the coffee shop owners, they want you to take them outside. So you should go call your local coffee shop owner and ask 'em to go for a walk with a cup of coffee that you bought at their shop. Your dare for this week, again, go outside and do some creative networking. I am Shelli Rood with Mission Ambition. If you would love for me to come in and spread the message of encouragement to your team, please email me at coach@shellyrood.com. Check us out on the web at missionambition.org, and while you're there, head over to Facebook and leave me a 5-star review. Thank you so much, you guys. Go out and have an awesome work week. It's beautiful. I'm glad the sun's out today.
